News of Revell molding preparing in US
Joe Handley replied to Jon Cole's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, I live on the south end of West Chicago and work just a few miles away on the north end and not too far from the Dupage Airport. There must be at least a dozen plastics and related companies around the office and between there and the airprt. -

Considering how many plastics related companies near where I'm now working, I wonder if that shop is local to me?! -

Oh I wish I hadn't seen those 914 pics you posted, I picked up 2 from HobbyLobby for the Fuchs wheels, and was going to try and throw them on ebay........now, I'm not so sure.......... -
My parents hit their 50th last October, Mom was at the hospital and barely made it out of there, but she was fairly awake for the day at least.

I had been planning on buying my 4th Tamiya paint stand, but when I saw there was two and wanting to build 2 while I still have a spare, just in case, I figured they will still have the stands next weekend. I got one to build like the 440 Six Pack/4 Speed/Super Track Pack car my parents had back in the day, then maybe do another as a tribute-ish car that would be a late model Hemi (maybe the 392 out of the prepainted Challenger kits, since I have 3 of those....) and painted the Moss Green Pearl my 1:1 Cherokee is painted.

Joe Handley replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers

Yup, then on top of this, I'm doing the paintwork on one of their C7 Vettes, and had to strip the primer that came out rough and pebblie, even then, the reprime is a bit questionable and needs work!

Some of it was tryin to do too much too soon, some was not taping the body to the stand like I should have, and then whole pearl bomb was just an experiment in general.

Started working on this a few weeks ago, 20180523_215049 by bjoehandley, on Flickr And was planning on this stance for it, 20180601_234451-1 by bjoehandley, on Flickr 20180601_234352-1 by bjoehandley, on Flickr I was going to try the DYC Pearl Bomb on it but that didn't work out when I tried it on a speed form that I had bought....... 20180708_182153 by bjoehandley, on Flickr So I just shot it in Testors' Blazing Black, then shot the roof in Model Master Black Lacquer, but ran into issues where I damaged the not quite dry yet paintwhen I went to mask off the body to painted the pillars and lower window trim, 20180711_230236 by bjoehandley, on Flickr 20180712_232046 by bjoehandley, on Flickr Tried to clean it up with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, but that just did this................. 20180715_163846 by bjoehandley, on Flickr So I went ahead and wet sanded then reshot it, did barely manage to leave some finger prints in the paint, but picked up some 3000 grit sand paper to try and clean it up before shooting the clear. 20180715_173814 by bjoehandley, on Flickr 20180717_223635-1 by bjoehandley, on Flickr In the process of building this one, I started a second and lose one of the mirrors for the black one.................... 20180715_165310 by bjoehandley, on Flickr Painting issues continued when the second Bug fell off the stand while shooting the primer, damaging it in areas and requiring more wet sanding, 20180720_225608-1 by bjoehandley, on Flickr I did the wet sanding and now I just need to put more primer down then shoot the.......rather work appropriate and polar opposite color coat I've chosen on it, 20180721_041219-1 by bjoehandley, on Flickr 20180721_041723-1 by bjoehandley, on Flickr Now since the I needed to get a new mirror, I ended up ordering an older issue off Amazon that had the chromed wheels and reflectors, think the chromed wheels will go on Bug #2 and this bug will likely get built too, still deciding on how I want to, 20180721_151720-1 by bjoehandley, on Flickr I do like how this second gen looks, and may try and follow that appearance, even being a first gen kit..

Food Dehydrators & Paint Dryers
Joe Handley replied to JayVee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That shrinkage is what I was trying to accelerate, if I could bake it dry, and work the shrink out before laying paint and maybe even primer, I won't need to worry about it on down the road after the model is done. -
Food Dehydrators & Paint Dryers
Joe Handley replied to JayVee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
So it doesn't work on the normal solvent based? I was hoping it would work better for the solvent based fillers like Squadron's putties. -
Food Dehydrators & Paint Dryers
Joe Handley replied to JayVee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Can a dehydrator be used to cure filler putty sooner too? -
No pics, but picked up some painting supplies from the paint shop across town and took the black NeuBug over to show him how the refinish on roof panel worked out as well as the second NeuBug was progressing (and admitting that I have since bought a third that arrived today) and the C7 Vette that I'm planning on using the Effex Glitter Clear from Duplicolor over their Sealer Primer on. Also picked up a third Tamiya paint stand set after not being able to get the Presto dehydrator I wanted to get.

Always. Open. The Box.
Joe Handley replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Same here, but as somebody who spent 24 years working retail including around the time stores started this "we'll take anything back, in any condition" nonsense, I wonder how many weren't so much of a factory mistake as it is somebody reboxing and reshrink wrapping something then returning it, or taking it back with a mix of parts and unwrapped, returning it no questions asked so long as it looks to have a model in it, then the store employees not knowing any difference, re wrap it and put it on the shelf since there appears to be nothing wrong with it. -
Gotta pay to play but OUCH
Joe Handley replied to HomerS's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's kind of an issue with any transverse mounted V-Engine in a front driver, just worse if it happens to be a pushrod engine.........especially in a minivan.......................... Not sure if Dad's '06 Town and Country will ever get new plugs, I know with my 200, if and when I do, I'll probably buy the MSD Pentastar V-6 coil packs and swap them out while I'm in there, kinda want to get the RPM Motorsports intake tube for a "while I'm in there" mod. -
How Many Do You Work On At Once?
Joe Handley replied to jaxenro's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've started buying more of the Tamiya Painting Stands now that I've had the chance to use the first one. Should make painting multiple bodies or parts at a time. Especially these few below that I'm trying to get these into primer and color and completed as I get the bodywork done. Not gonna lie, I love the stances of the Turbine Car and Gremlin, those Bugs look much better on the deck too. -
At least it wasn't your hand like the in my pics! I heard a "thunk" sound as the jumped in my had and next to my leg, looked down and saw that the bottom became an outtie, Think the side seam was also lined up with the palm of my hand too
