56 International pickup
mchook replied to mchook's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks Chuck, this guy "Rusty" must have been doing work on a bunch of your vehicles.? I love the way you do your weathering. It looks like you use the salt technique and it always comes out amazing. I've tried it a number of times and never was happy with my results. Thanks Chris. -
I built the Barracuda one when it came out. I think I still have one of those bases somewhere.

Found this... https://www.ebay.com/itm/254562531534?hash=item3b451bf8ce:g:~VsAAOSw2aJei68G It's for a truck but should be the same, unless it's for a 1 1/2 ton truck and then it's just larger. I can check my fathers this weekend if you want, he might have one out that I can take some pics of. -

F-150 chrome removal
mchook replied to Mike C.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice project. This is a tough thing to do on this kit. I've done it twice and it's a PIA. My white 75 was done freehand and didn't come out very good. On my yellow 79 I used a couple old metal rulers and clamped them above & below the trim to keep from removing more than I wanted, then I finished with a round file. I understand your frustration but keep going and you'll get it. -
Mine showed up yesterday, nice issue.

Tim Allen's '56 F100 truck

I remember him having a blue 34 Ford and his wife had a 55 Nomad but I don't remember seeing this truck. It's been a while since I've seen the show though. I can't wait to see this finished model of it, it's one cool truck! -

Now you've done it! Once you start hacking away at plastic you'll want to do it on everything. You can always make things better or cooler if you just cut a little here or there. Welcome to the rabbit hole, and have fun cutting your way out of it.? Oh ya, great job, have fun, it's going to look killer! -

Nice start, these were a tough kit for me. I could never get the doors to work right. I don't remember Tim having a 56 Ford. What show was it on? -
That is some deep black paint, I love it. I'm kinda partial to these 70 Chargers, I have a 1:1 in the garage waiting for some tlc.

Great job on this, it's perfect! These are great kits, I just wish the hood was designed different so it would open. -

Thanks Greg, It's amazing what a few hours in a zip lock bag and that sophisticated finishes stuff can do. It turns years into minutes.? Thanks Phil. Thanks Jeremy, I've been wanting to do something different for a while and when I saw this resin cab I had to have it. The weathering is just my lazy way of doing a paint job. "When", not if I screw up the paint I just add more rust.? -

Thanks Steve, if it wouldn't cost a small fortune to ship it to you I sure would build you a shop. It's pretty easy to make. It's just 3/8 sheetrock, drywall (whatever you want to call it) with the paper removed from 1 side then block scribed into it. The interior is just full of cheap diorama stuff, nothing fancy at all. -

Thanks Francis, I only wish I had just a taste of your talent. Me being able to ruin a paint job isn't that impressive. It's finally finished & in the under glass section. Thanks David, I finally managed to finish it and it's now under glass with some better pictures. -

I started with a RMR resin cab, used a Foose FD-100 running gear, interior and built my own bed. Decals from a 50 Chevy just for fun with one of my rotten paint jobs. I'm glad to see it finished, hope you like it. -

Thanks Jerry, I'm just about finished. I have some touchup to do, tail lights, mirror & plates. I'll get some pics and post them under glass soon. Thanks again to everyone who commented and helped with this one. -
DANG! That looks like a car again, impressive work!?

Alright, I finished the interior (didn't come out the way I wanted) but it's done. I used some blue shop towel for the floor, I just thinned some white glue & water to lay it down. The dash kept cracking in half where cut it to narrow it so when I finally got it fixed I ended up opening the glove box. I really don't know why I did all that extra work but it opens & closes. I had to make my own windshield and rear glass and that was a huge PIA too. It's about finished, which is good because I'm getting tired of looking at this thing.
