The Official EBay Discussion Thread
mchook replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been selling on ebay from the beginning and it's had its ups and downs over the years. Lately it's been awful. I've been selling some vintage Transformers and I've had so many people not paying it's ridiculous. I sold one item 4 times and even offered people second chance offer with nothing. It doesn't seem that ebay cares if people pay or not. Yes, I block them from bidding again but they should be removed all together. Especially when you look at their feedback and they have a bunch of it saying NON PAYING BIDDER. Of course it's under their positive feedback because sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers anymore. I find myself making my listings "Buy it now" so I can get paid but I don't care for that. I like seeing people get into bidding wars and driving the price up, if I can get more money that's great. They're new payment situation sucks too. I had to open a new checking account just for ebay and I have to wait 5 or more days to get paid. What a joke! Now the buyer has to wait longer to get their item because I'm not shipping it until I see the money in my account. Oh well, I'm done complaining, I'll just keep listing & hope for the best. -
Very nice build Al.

I got a little more work done this week but not much. I shot some paint on the body, which I'm not happy with but it will have to do. The picture makes it look bright blue but it's really much darker. The seat, dash & door panels are painted too. I finished the exhaust but forgot to take a pic. I'm probably going to use the wire wheels because I can't find any wooden ones that I'm happy with but we'll see, I still might work on making some T wheels work.

Thanks Tom, that boom was a test build for my Model A wrecker I built a while back. I tried to make is resemble the Weaver 3G but it's not quite right so it's my "does it look right in there?" boom.

1955 Ford Panel Truck
mchook replied to Captain Spaulding's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great looking rescue. Are you going to add a logo or something on the side? It would be really cool if you could make a decal of your avatar with "The Captain Spaulding Rod Shop" or something. -
That's one slick Torino! Nice job!

The work on this is amazing! Great job, I can't wait to see more!

WOW! Beautiful truck, great work. -
I worked on bed the last few days and it doesn't look like I accomplished much. I still have a bunch of sanding to do but it's getting there. I think the hardest thing for me is to remember to take pictures while I'm doing this. The tow boom isn't the one I'll be using but it works for just seeing how it will look.

Thanks Grant, I do the same thing. I'll over look something for a while because the car isn't my style but I really should look at all of them.

Thank you everyone for the compliments & feedback. I really appreciate it, it makes me want to keep going forward with it & not just shoving it back into the box. Hi Alan, thanks for digging out all those parts and taking the picture for me. It looks like that is the way I'm going to go with the wheels on this thing. I'm sure I'll be able to find a set somewhere around here. $25 is nuts to mail something like that but I appreciate the thought. As for getting it around Easter, I'll probably still be working on it by then at this rate.? Thanks again, Mark

I haven't had a lot of time to work on this lately, I've been busy fixing the broken dryer, lawn mower and everything else that happened last week. I did manage to squeeze in enough time to get the top about done. I shortened the overhang of the windshield too, like "espo" said it was a little too much. It still needs the inside finished but it looks like a roof now. The car to me is starting to look a little like the picture.

Thanks guys for the great comments & advice. I've been trying to figure out the wheel situation in the back of my head and you guys are giving great options. I've thought about the T wheels but I think the center is too small & the spokes too long. I could start cutting them to make them look right but I don't know if I want to go down that rabbit hole. Compare that nice Lincoln's wheels too my father's T wheels and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks Tom. Skip, if this thing turns out to be a decent looking model I just might do another of that maroon & black one. I like the closed cab look on it. I started on building the roof next, I know I'm all over the place with my building process. I wasn't sure how to make it so I traced the body on a piece of paper and drew the top. Probably not the right way to do it but it's what I came up with. I cut it out and transferred it onto some styrene. At first I just glued another piece to the back, but the corners looked too sharp so I cut it back apart and used some tubing to get a curve to it. After I get the top covered I'll cut the rear window out next. I'm just going to trace the one from the kit, and that was molded poorly too it's missing a pretty good size piece from the bottom corner.

Thanks, I really want to make it shiny but if the paint gives me a hard time it just might end up with one of those "special finishes". I want to do a dark blue body with black fenders.

The engine went together fairly good, I just needed to check some 1:1 pics to see how it's supposed to look because the instructions are pretty vague. The chassis was a PIA because 1 frame rail was bent from packing. After I got the chassis pretty straight and the front & rear ends in, I had to cut the front axel back out. I didn't notice when I was putting it together but the passenger side spring had so much extra material it was like it had 3 extra leaf springs in it. I should have taken some pics but I was so aggravated I didn't think about it. So I got most of the chassis built & the wheels were next but OMG the flash & chrome are awful so they're getting stripped. While that's happening I decided to hack up the body. I cut the rear off over the wheel wells & built the rest from styrene. It needed to be longer & straighter to look like right. The body was molded a little crooked so the sides up at the cowl didn't have any trim on one side. It didn't really matter I had to make my own anyway to get the curve at the back by the new top.

I've been thinking about building a model of this since I saw the picture a long time ago. This beautiful car was converted into a tow truck and looks amazing. I'm starting with an AMT Connoisseur Classics 1928 Lincoln Sport Touring I bought off ebay. The kit is awful, it's loaded with flash and a lot of the parts are molded a little crooked.

Don't do that! I wouldn't want to be responsible for what that stuff would do to you.? Seriously though, thank you taking the pics. -
