  1. I have a Krylon color that is "close" but I'm taking one more stab at Tamiya next time I'm at the LHS. The cab is stripped again and back in primer for the time being.
  2. have you got a second 1/32 scale truck kit where you can rob some extra tires? If so, cut one of the tires leaving just the flat surface of the outside. Sand it smooth and glue it to the inside of the front tires. Sand the edge down so that it is clean. Do the same to the other front open tire. You won't see the open back anymore.
  3. It's off in left field compared to the color chip. White base would not have done the trick. I'm going to check out Krylon Caribbean blue as an alternative. Those chips look closer.
  4. Well, I got a can of TS-102 and am disappointed in the color. I would call it a medium green and not anywhere near as light in color as the color chip suggests. The green Ford used was more of a turquoise color. Got to strip the cab and start over.
  5. Could be. They are just sitting there for the time being. They'll be lined up in the final assembly. Thanks!!
  6. A short wheelbase version would be great, Tom! The body on this one is now separate and is in need of shimming to get it up to the correct height. Almost ready for paint but I'm considering opening up the tailgate. So perhaps some additional cutting is in order! Happy 4th!!
  7. Got this much done on the re-build so far. Sink marks filled in, cab and body cleaned up, new resin cast grill to be opened up for clear light lenses and new tires and wheels.
  8. Great work, Steve! The camper interior is really special. All the right period stuff! (The cab ain't bad either?)!
  9. That might take a chain of events over the long haul, but I'll be pullin' for ya!?
  10. Hey, Pete: Hate to tell ya, but brake fluid will remove chrome. I dropped some chrome bumpers in along with some painted pieces and 2 hrs later the chromed pieces were clean as a whistle. It might not be environmentally the equivalent of some modern day stuff but it worked! I do have to acknowledge the chromed pieces were very old but every last bit of chrome and backing was removed without damaging the plastic at all.
  11. Thanks, Roger. Will be going to the LHS on Tuesday and will look for that color. I'd really like to do a green and white one. I just separated the grill from the front bumper so that I can make a new grill in an RTV mold. then I'm going to recast the headlights in clear resin, cut out the solid lenses and replace them with the clears. Alclad will be used on the new grill.
  12. Gottcha! I didn't pay that much attention to the idea that they were mated together. The real reason I decided to cut the two apart was that when the model was built the gap had been filled in with glue to hold some vertical exhaust pipes. Really messed up the joint and would have been difficult to clean. Too late now anyway! I have the cab back filled in. Just have to sand and clean up.
  13. That's what it is,Bob. But not any more! They have been separated, put in some brake fluid to soak and here are the results.
  14. I'm going to go with the wheels and tires that were there. They are in pretty good shape for something as old as this build is. Color will end up being red and white. The nice off green would have been great but it's a hard color to match.
  15. I got this package at the LHS a while ago. the '34 Ford wrecker rebuild came from the same box. Some real dirty and old stuff inside. I've taken the '60 Ford F100 apart now to do another rebuild. It needs some real tlc to get it looking good but that's half the fun. That's it in the background. parts have been washed but they need to be cleared of old paint. I was hoping to find a color similar to this one at Michaels. They had some super craft colors but today the complete bin was empty. Bummer!!
  16. Thanks, Bob. Are you going to Meriden, CT for Fire Fest?
  17. That is outstanding. Raising the building bar for sure. Explain, if you will how you created the hood hinges. The fit when the hood is closed is spot on. And your BMF work on DODGE on the tailgate is awesome. Thanks, Francis. I will look for the file. I tried doing some hinges on a Reo and without good results. Very small work for sure.
  18. I had bleed through on some Monogram 1/32 Mack kits in both yellow and red versions. For some reason it did not happen in every case. So I'm thinking that it has something to do with the composition of the plastic. I mated two yellow cabs together to form an extended one and half of it bled and the other did not. Go figger. Finally tested the underside of a couple of different kit cabs until I had two that did not bleed.
  19. You are welcome! It was a nice break to do something relatively simple for a change. No particular details to replicate, just some ideas that might have been the thing to do back in the day. It was fun to get back into the building mode again.
