  1. Ha! That's interesting. I decided to do just that over Labor Day weekend. Build a simple box stock (pretty much) kit. I chose a simple kit, the reissue of the AMT Cyclone altered wheelbase drag car re-badged with Dyno Don Nicholson. I got it all but final assembly in three days. I futzed with some detail painting (minimal) this week and will assemble this weekend. It feels good to just do a quick build....I haven't done that in a long time. -RRR
  2. I'm wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers and I certainly didn't intend to imply there weren't good builds going on here previously, but it does seem to me there are are even more quality being displayed now. Maybe it's because this place is growing and we have more contributors or maybe I just wasn't paying attention before...if you need me, I'll be over here at the bench hacking away on some styrene, my fingers covered in gloo.... -RRR
  3. This is about as close to turning a silk purse from a sow's ear as I've ever seen. Maybe Revell will bring out a '33/'34 series like they've done with the '32 and '28-'31 Fords? Please? -RRR
  4. That is gorgeous, perfect paint choice. That Drag City greenhouse is impressive. That's the best use of those decals I've ever seen, the bluewall slicks really set it off. Another beauty on the shelf. -RRR
  5. Nice weathering and rust! -RRR
  6. Oh. I was wondering what brand of beer you bought....never mind... -RRR
  7. I haven't had any plating done by George Hernandez, but I have sent parts to be plated by Little Motor Kar Co and have had reasonable turn around (a few weeks) with excellent results (doesn't do you much good now that someone else has your parts). Make sure pricing is current before sending parts off. -RRR
  8. Have you noticed the proliferation of seriously high quality builds showing up right now? Man (and woman) oh man!!! I just want to say I'm proud to be part of this forum and it seems many have been exhibiting builds with imagination, ingenuity and interest. It's not that we haven't always have had spectacular builds being showing, it just seems like this place is exploding! Thanks to all who participate and the ability to learn and grow from others has made this forum a place I really enjoy being part of. That's all now "model on"!!! -RRR
  9. Hang in there. I can only imagine how tough it its during these trying times when you have young ones. Take care of your family. I hope you can get back to your hobbies (what keep me sane) sooner than later. -RRR
  10. Bad ass! Good use for that Miss Deal body.... -RRR
  11. Very well done! I like the subtle paint color. Great kitbash! -RRR
  12. I have never really liked the east coast style, it looks out of proportions to me. A hot rod should be chopped IMHO... -RRR
  13. I'd start with the stock height old Monogram '30 body, frame from one of the Revell '32 series...Buy some tires and wheels from Modelhaus www.modelhaustires.com Part #120 fronts #180 rears. Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland make some very fine deep and shallow steelies that fit those tires and get 'em chromed by Little Motor Kar Company. The re-issued Revell '29 roadster has the SBC with Limefire headers in it...Testors One Hit Inca Gold rattle color is perfect...off you go. If you don't do it I might!!!! The unchopped, channeled look is called "East Coast Style". -RRR
  14. I saw a red 1:1 on the road a few days ago. Did not get pic, did it really happen??? -RRR
  15. Meh, I never find anything worthwhile at HL, just paint.... -RRR
  16. Yoewowza!! That's looking fine! -RRR
  17. B- the hood sides and the rest of the body parts (except he '32 grille shell) are from the old Monogram 1930 coupe kit. This is not to be confused with the newer Revell '30 coupe kit that was out (and hopefully to return?) a few years ago. The original Monogram '30 coupe was in stock trim, it has been reissued several times and can found at your fave auction site: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-MONOGRAM-85-7551-1930-FORD-COUPE-5-WINDOW-1-24-Model-Kit/353171804252?hash=item523aae105c:g:K30AAOSw0otfOIql -RRR
  18. Thanks, Tim. Always an honor to get a nice compliment from you. Working on a '29 chopped Sport Coupe..it's going to be a bit wild!!!! -RRR
  19. When at an Atlanta NNL a few years ago when Mr. (forget his first name) Sexton had a table with a pad of paper asking what kit wanted kitted, I had a look over it and attendees listed pretty much every manufacturer and body style of the past 40 years, (but no hot rods) so I'm not sure that's much to go on.....
  20. Thanks for all of the kind words, folks! Wait until I have up what my sleeve next! -RRR
  21. I wanted to build an old school tough as nails basic hot rod. This reminds of Robert Williams painting. Tearing down the street with chickens scattering, dog pack snarling after, trash cans being bowled over while women and kids fleeing in terror!!!! 1930 Ford Coupe based on the old Monogram kit with a treated to a heavy chop. '32 grille shell from the Revell Rat Roaster kit. Frame from the AMT 1932 Phantom Vickie with reveals added and scratch built crossmembers. Engine is a back-dated SBC with three-2s, Chevrolet script valve covers and ram horn headers, T5 transmission (real hot rods have three pedals). Front suspension from the Revell '29 roadster, rear suspension is a QC from RMCM. Spartan interior with a bench seat from a Revell '32 roadster. Paint is Tamiya TS-14 "any color you want Henry Ford black". The Notso Special. Buildup pix here: https://public.fotki.com/jferren/30-model-a-coupe-87b/ -RRR
  22. Stunning detail, one of he best posts here in a long time! Nostalgia drag!!! -RRR
