  1. I was expecting Killdozer, but this is really cool! Why are those parts yellow?
  2. I did what I learned from building models, and blew up to full scale. 😅 Went to U-Pick-It for a wiper arm, no luck because it looks like GM made all their wiper posts bigger after '69, and nothing that old there. But I did get a prop rod: Which just needed some bending, and shortened a little. The only thing I measured was the length. If I ever put carpet in, you won't see the sign or furniture "plywood". One of the taillights needed attention, the lens was not straight and was super loose. Yea that's hokey with the duct tape (couldn't figure out how bailing wire could be used), and the wood wedge, but the lens is not moving! Lucked out in having a bulb. Just need someone who does electrical, and he knows it. The exterior door latches did not work. I made a wood prototype, then one aluminum part which did not work, made another with a different shape, and I can't believe it works! Never measured anything, all by eye. I had no idea what was in there, whatever part was not at the bottom of the door, so I observed what moved and what was modified. I made a good excuse to test the prop rod, went shopping. 😆 Sunday drive north to Ash Fork, then to the abandoned segment of Route 66 for a selfie. It sure likes curvy roads that are smooth. 😏 Wanted a more stylin' hat, but it wants to get sucked off my head. 🙄 So I'm pleased that despite having minimal experience at restoring cars, that I used my model building experience, which means patience and lots of trial and error. I'm registered for the Williams car show first weekend in June, need to get it polished and waxed!
  3. There are several locations where the alignment was changed, before the Interstate was a thing. In this section, what remains was the second alignment, the first is a barely drivable dirt path, which I have taken with the pickup. Just eastward, is the infamous Ash Fork Hill, the highway can barely be hiked because it's so abandoned.
  4. Do not get me going about neighbors. 😡 The next door to the south, been "coexisting" with them 40 years, they recently moved into town, leaving their {blank} around, including no wildfire fuel removal, so I'm having to clear-cut my yard in defense. That's one reason I got a Shipping Container, but I believe he snitched to the County, so I'm expecting a battle. Neighbor on the north side is super sweet, she allowed the backhoe to come around back to pull the Shipping Container into final place. The next neighbor on her north, recent Latino family, think the street is the racetrack and not pit lane. Otherwise everyone controls their dog's barking, but I did leave a note for another new neighbor about it, nice first try, they have been keeping their dogs in check. Across the street is the cabin that is never used by a Phoenix owner, no issues at all. I see three boats in front yards, south neighbor's sailboat has never moved for 30 years. Guy across the street and I are friends, I better return his hammer shovel......... Otherwise on average, sounds like I'm lucky.
  5. Cruised on a part of abandoned Route 66, east of Ash Fork. Other than a clearance issue of wheel/caliper, the 56 year old car runs great! Very short segment that is being used as a street in town. There is a museum past this sign. This abandoned segment is off the Welch Road exit, heading west: Then coming back, going east: Found a Route 66 shield is still visible: My new hat, sort of a mashup of Miami Vice and Stetson Western influence, need to keep the sun off! Pleased I made it back without any issues. Wasn't pulled over either. 😬
  6. It looked like WA state with low hanging clouds and rain, the past couple of days. One of my daughters came down from WA and was kind of ticked. 😬 But today was gorgeous, an Arizona Highways kind of day. But when the sun went down, it got chilly.
  7. I can't explain it, why this spoke form just works. Even the Dodge pickups with giant versions similar in spoke look good. There was a conflict with the wheel and caliper, almost had it fixed when I drove a little ways down White Spar. Took the front wheel off again, and got it fixed when I drove to the top of Mingus Mountain (89A). I feels at home on the curves, but needs suspension work and an alignment. Oh yea, we had a storm blow through, sure need the precipitation! Good, you can't really see how slow I'm going. 🤫
  8. That came out nice! Don't you love it, only after looking at the pictures do you see......... I have this kit, wanted to do a replica of the Tom Mix (silent movie star who filmed some in my area) car that he was killed in.
  9. Found this Unimat DB 200 at the swap meet last Saturday. Took a picture there, came home to look at what eBay wish prices are, went back and gladly paid $200. Didn't know I wanted one. 🙄 Before cleaning up: After cleaning and oiling: Drill bit works fine for the stop. The hole is for a missing lever, that I have no clue about. Found a video on You Tube about the tailstock, learned there were some screws and a nut missing. Scavenged screws from a ceiling fan made into grub screws. Now I have to find a manual, and a complete diagram, and learn how to use it. Got it to turn rocket nose cones, I took 5 semesters of college wood shop, but not machining. Sharpened the cutter, and tried it out with a dowel. It was too cute to pass up. 😁
  10. I don't want to get into a debate about Tariffs. Simple fact, when the Income Tax was introduced, Tariffs were dropped, how did that work out? If this was an investigation, I would say Taiwan is next to CHYna. Anyone old enough to remember when Made In Japan meant cheap, knockoff, Datsun, then we were fine with moving on to another country, and then we just let what we have now happen. I have a zero gap on a wheel, sanded down the rough machining, which seems to have been enough. End rant to avoid getting into trouble. 🤬 Old "American" wheels: New "American" wheels:
  11. Got new wheels/tires today. I found some almost exact Ferrari (but F40) wheels, made in England. The dealer in the States led me to it, but I had to TinEye reverse image the picture to figure out the brand, saw their price 😵‍💫, and he said the tariff scare (and that's what it is, next stop Irk thread) is messing things up, and I didn't hear from him again. So I decided that since Discount Tire is just up the highway from me, and I like the vintage TorqThrust "American" Racing design, and it is a Corvette, I made the decision. Avoided much needed rain. Still have issues to sort out, before the Williams Route 66 car show June 7th.
  12. My last girlfriend's house has an enclosed porch, with windows that move down. The walls are hollow, and the Squirrels were inside, climbing up the screens. Cute, but not there!
  13. entertainment value. Nevertheless,
