I will not bore you with all the details of this build, it is going to be OOB. I love the Italeri and ROG truck kits, the details are so much better than the AMT,MPC, etc. However, I need to get more creative and do some custom builds in the future. So far this has gone together fairly well. However I did have a little trouble with alignment. I think the frame may have had a little bow or bend to it, but I have it fixed now. Not going overboard with details, but I am adding some light weathering. The pictures show where I am at with the chassis, the wheels are not attached or painted and I still have to paint all the air tanks and put them on. You may notice that things seem a bit Grey. I will be adding some color to the body to offset the grey. I may go White with some bright Orange or Red stripes. One thing I dislike about the Italeri/ROG kits is the multi piece cabs. I hate building the interior and then attaching the cab to that. So, on this one I figured out how to build the cab and paint it, then assemble it in a way that allows the interior to be finished inside the complete cab. Anyway, as of now.

What did you see on the road today?
Oldmopars replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ran across this the other day and thought it was cool. 4x4 flatbed, with sleeper. Does it get any better? -

Now this is cool, may have to build something like that. 1 Ford F350, 1 Ford F1, a little Evergreen and some weathering. I like it. -
Modelhaus Offical Update/SA
Oldmopars replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It is sad to see a great aftermarket company like them just fade away, however I do understand that everyone retires some time, I hope I get to. The reality is that we are a minority, modeling is not big business like Video games or something else that there is millions of dollars in. I would bet that most producers of aftermarket model kit parts are doing it out of there garage, or as a side business to another business. There is just not a lot of money in it. We should appreciate them while they are around, support them if we can. Encourage those that can do this kind of stuff to continue by buying the parts they make. At the end of the day, this is just a hobby, no one is going to die if the hobby goes away. We all remember when we could get kits at every local store, hobby shops were plentiful, not anymore. The hobby is not what it was 20-30 years ago. Young people these days are more interested in Halo or Mario Cart than they are in building a plastic model. My guess would be that the average age modelers right now is well over 40. Its a sad fact, but I think we will see more of this as the years go by. People will retire, and young people just do not see the business as a money maker or anything they want to invest in. BTW, it is not just modeling. I ride motorcycles and the motorcycle industry is suffering too. H-D used to be top dog and you had to wait to get the bike you wanted some times up to 2 years. Last year they offered rebates for the first time in history to get rid of old stock. Victory motorcycles closed, sales of other brands are down too. Life goes on. -
I agree. I have loved these truck since I was a kid. My hands down all time favorite. I know where there is one parked in a field. It looks like a runner. I want so bad to go buy it, but I just can't find a reason that I need it. I don't even have a class A to drive it. But I still want one, along with a Deuce and a Half.

76 Dodge long bed
Oldmopars replied to mchook's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That would be perfect. With the aftermarket, converting it to a 4x4 would be easy. However a slammed D100 might look good too. Multiple kits. -
US Air Force Mustang NOT what you think!!!
Oldmopars replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Up till the change over to the GSA vehicle program in the early 2000's all the Air Force "Blue Fleet" were painted this blue. So, this included Buses, truck and anything non-camo. If it had a blue paint job with a white top, it was the base commanders car. The problem with the paint is that it was not a great paint and the cars were washed, but never waxed of buffed. So, when new they were very shinny and looked good, but in just a few years they would fade and be very dull. Now most of the "Blue Fleet" vehicles are owned by the GSA and are leased to the military, the colors are all over the rainbow. I served for 14 years and I remember the change over. I was a Vehicle NCO at that time. -
If you look at the door you will see that this is what is called a "Dent Side", made from 73-80ish. The 67-72 is referred to as a "Bump Side" due to the molding lines being a bump out on the side, not dented in like on the 73+. As for the 1:32 Bonnet Bus, it would be OK, but it is a bit too narrow. You would need to buy 2, and section them in the middle. This is what it looks like on a 65 Chevy truck, I did shorten it a lot:

A-Team van vs. Rescue Van (AMT)
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So from what I can see the A-Team van body is the same other than the roof, license plate and rib on the side. The new issue Rescue and I assume the Cop van look like the Dirty Donnie van without the extra custom parts. But all in all the same van body. -

Thanks, this is the information that I needed. Top secret plan for the 2019 Cannonball. Doing some research to formulate a plan. -

Looks good. I currently have this same kit on the bench. The kit leaves a bit to be desired, but I am turning mine into a Rally car for the Piking to Paris Community Build. I will be following this. I just finished a 40 Ford gasser and this will be fun to follow.

I am really sorry to hear about the loss due to the fire. I know all to well this issue. This last summer we had a fire go through our property. Destroyed 10 of the 15 acres but the fire fighter did a great job and saved the house and cars. So, my land looks like burned lunar landscape, but the house survived. Shortly before that we were robbed and half of my models were stolen along with many thousands of dollars of other stuff including antiques. But as they say, stuff can be replaced. I enjoyed looking at your model collection. I love the Dino. Let us know if we an help in any way

It would be a perfect car for the Peking to Paris community build. Jack it up and make a rally car out of it.

Truck-A-Thon 2018 *Official Entry List*
Oldmopars replied to Goodwrench3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So when is the official end to the TAT? When do we need to post our entry? -
Well I'm in. I am going to use the AMT Chevy Rescue Van as a start to my build. I bought it as soon as I found out what we are doing, now my problem is, I really want to get started on it. However, other than steeling the tires for another build(P2P) it is still untouched in the box.

2018 Cannonball Run CBP - PLEASE VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE!!!
Oldmopars replied to Jantrix's topic in Community Builds
So, I kind of went in a different direction with this. The rules only said it had to be a inline engine, no other restrictions. So, I figured what cop would want to stop a stinky looking septic truck? So, the cab and chassis is an AMT SD White/Freightliner. I added the Turbo for more Go. The septic tank and everything on the rear is all scratch built. The tank is PVC plumbing parts. In the Cannonball vein, the septic tank does not hold Poo, but hold enough fuel to go coast to coast without stopping. The drivers can stop to pee and grab some food, and hit the road again. SO, this is my Racing Septic truck. -
I am not saying that the C10 could not have run, but I suspect it was there as a support vehicle, not an entrant. The rules are very clear on no trucks. It also does not look like it was Rally Prepped. So, either it did support, or its just a truck that someone thought it would be fun to stick the P2P plate on. Or, it may have run, but was not "Official", just a fun fun kind of thing. IE, it ran, but was not eligible for the "Win".

Well I have been getting a little done. I got the roll bar made, seat mounts done and the center console made. This will house the SAT phone, shifter and switches. I also made some stuff for the trunk/roof rack. I have 2 sleeping bags, a brown tarp, chain, rope, and a tool box. Some of this will get mounted to the roof rack, but some will stay in the trunk. I also got the trunk hinged.

Paasche Airbrush suggestions
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well, I do also have the Badger 200 (old style). and a Badger 350. Maybe I should get a hose that fits my compressor and a couple of sets of tip and nozzles for that. I guess the 200 would work for now and do what I need to do. -
Paasche Airbrush suggestions
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The main use for it is car and truck painting. I do not need super fine details, but I do like the double action. I have a cheap china DA and I loved it for the few months that it worked. I almost always use Acrylics and so it is cleaned with mild soap and water. I have 2 others, both single action and I am just not as fond of them. If I go single action, then I am limited to what it can do, however if I go with a good Double action then I can expand my skills and maybe add more details to my work. The TG looks great and I know I would use it, but I think the VL or TS are closer to the budget I want to spend. I really like the large gravity feed cup of the TG and the fan tip for large jobs, yet the fine tips for details. -
I am looking to get a new airbrush. I have it narrowed down to the following models. Paasche VL, TS and TG. My budget is less than $100. I have tried the Master made in China stuff and it is pure POO. So I am looking to spend a little more, but need it to stay under $100. What would you suggest.
