  1. Reaching a point where this build is ready for a nap - evergreen strip was cut and sanded to make lower rocker panels that housed - I think - the lines to the two water pumps - and I’m shaping the ridges that covered the suspension pick-ups - these have a different shape than the Lotus 49 - hard to match - MFH’s 20th scale kit got it close to right - mine will be - okay ... the main thing is I’ll be able to fit all of the major components in the forward section - under the nose - somehow ...
  2. So the plan is to add / make just about everything else and build one of the two factory team cars from the 1954 Sebring race. For the record - both cars DNF’d - but the factory would be back - with greater success - later in the decade ...
  3. The body casting was a thick, and one piece - but the lines were quite good - I carved out the trunk and bonnet and thinned out much of the resin structure - big mess ... adding tabs inside the openings to support the separated bonnet and trunk ...
  4. I’ll send the caster an email and I’ll post his reply if I get one ... kits were curbside with some nice photo-etch. - enough to give you a start... produced in very low numbers and not available for years now - I assume the caster made his fortune and turned to other pursuits ...
  5. Here’s a rare bird - or sports car kit ... Strada 24 produced some really cool sports car kits about 10 years ago - before disappearing intO the garage resin kit ether ... the caster was fr Argentina.
  6. one year ago - just about the last time that my wife and I did "anything" this year's event is set for May - I think ... hoping ...
  7. with my BeCassa app on my I phone from Amelia Island Mar 20 - Alfa Romeo Don Lee Special just stirrin things up ...
  8. these are some BeCassa modified pix of my completed Cooper ...
  9. So DustyMojave posted the following on this thread way back in Aug 2017 : "Another model builder I know, Dale King, grew up near Harry's store and as a young man built a very detailed larger scale model of Harry's Cooper, going to Harry's house to take measurements and pictures. Awesome model." Well I can now complete the circle - as I have Dale king's permission to post pix of his amazing 12th scale Cooper - and yes it is a true - old school - scratch-build ... - he sort of instigated my fool's errand in 24th scale ...
  10. The drawings I’ve got suggest that the Joker resin monocoque is a little short - and this is confirmed by studying the 20th scale MFH build ... so it’s back to the Renshape for the added scale 2.5 inches at the back - and this piece will also serve as the engine bulkhead ...and this should enable me to nail the wheelbase ...
  11. HOT BENCH ... there’s plastic, Renshape, and resin flying everywhere ... studying the Lotus 43 build on the Brit Modeler site I realized that the car has curved panels at the base of the monocoque that house some of the fluid lines ... making these with Evergreen strip ...
  12. Not Ethel. My I phone does not recognize “Etzel”. Drat ...
  13. Looked again - I think you are using the same density - and I too am a big fan of the late, great Chris Ethel ... got an idea ...
  14. That’s what I thought. I think it’s the same stuff that you are using for your Bugatti. If your Renshape is not brown - it’s a different density ... but basically the same stuff. - by the way - you must take the Bugatti to the last GSL to compete in the salt lake / land speed category - and you will have some competition. ...
  15. Thank you for that question. It is the scratchbuilder’s secret weapon - that is unless you can draw and print your own parts ... it’s Renshape ... this is the medium stuff. Easily shaped with hand tools. The files and random toothed cutters by PermaGrit are best for this. - It’s like wood without grain ... expensive but necessary if you want to make your own whatever ...
  16. Notice that the bulkhead has lost its rounded profile on top - just not enough room in this scale to fit the nose and keep the correct profile - but the fluid reservoirs still fit - that’s OK ...
  17. Right hand damper box in ... more changes - widened the rocker pivots - them glued the front bulkhead in ... pins in the pivot holes while the epoxy sets - need the pivot holes square ...
  18. https://worldwideauctioneers.com/listings/private-treaty/1965-shelby-cobra-daytona-coupe-csx-2469/ for sale; Shelby's Daytona without a racing history - it appears to be "show-room new" which is almost weird - but its a Daytona ... walk-a-round might help with some last minute details enjoy
  19. Wonderful choice Mr. Tre - Knew Mr Che would approve ... - for you next Tonneau cover - buy a sample pack or renshape - some basic PermaGrit bits and files - and wack away ....
  20. The fluid reservoirs have .040 “stems” - just large enough to accept small drilled holes for the brake and clutch lines ... the steering rack is .047 brass tube with some plastic “ears” and attachment brackets... and I’m making the housings for the springs from some spare renshape ... still lots of adjustments needed - including added width to the pivot points for The rocker arms ... lots to do ...
  21. Well. Now we know what’s on the workbench - pl give it a coat of primer so that we can see the lines better ...
  22. The clutch and brake fluid cylinders are spare white metal parts from another - older - project. Got to add some flanges - The steering rack will be attached below these bottles. On the real car - the rack sits level with the pivot brackets for the rocker arms - can’t do this in 24th scale. - not enough room under the shell - MFH was able to do this in 20th scale - don’t know how they did it - they’re pretty good ! Steering rack and oil tank next - I think ... unless I’m distracted and wander off again ...
  23. The resin kit bulkhead is replaced by the one in black - cut and sanded from evergreen sheet. Can’t quite locate all of the accessories to spec because of the scale - even after thinning the nose shell to about .040 or so ...
