  1. Don’t dorget to study Pierre’s GS Build …. He tackled and solved a bunch of kit build challenges …
  2. JC -thanks for posting the link - very helpful I've placed an order for Zero Paints Viking Blue have you seen their "Viking Blue" ?? I'll post a sample before I use it should be good for the Daytona Coupe #10 it won't match what's on the Simeone car - but the Simeone car's finish is old and faded - and I'm certain it was re-sprayed at least once back in the day so I'll have to use some imagination ...
  3. Yup - post the kit w box open - glue 2 parts together - or paint a part - and the Penske GS is yours … do you live w/in day trip dx of the Simeone Collection?? - there is a GS engine on display …
  4. Pierre !! more than one ! and I forgot to tell you ... since you finished #1 so quickly - you'll have to choose/build another entry ... which one ?? and you get a "rules bend" - you can choose a second Cobra entry if you want ... we are still a little light on Ferrari entries ...
  5. lets herd some cats: there were 10 - count em - 10 Cobras entered in the '64 race Pierre has posted his build/start of the #1 Shelby team entry for Miles and Morton Vamach has begun the #12 Bondurant car Smilesperhr wants to build one of the Cobras: Smiles - which one ? you can refer to the site w all of the entries at the top of the thread ... MarkJ wanted to do #1 - can I convince you to choose one of the others ?? the #11 Cobra entered for Gurney and Johnson ?? or #14 ?? And we've also got commitments to build - or starts - on: 2 GTOs Randy D and Ace - the #37 Porsche 904 - Gramps the #48 MGB - Misha the #23 Ferr 275P - I think - Ace ? Lotus Elite - RC Lotus Cortina - AndrewMcD I'm doing the #10 Daytona Coupe Pierre has already finished the #3 Grand Sport reminder - you can build more than one entry - lots of good ones left ... is someone building one of the Alpines ? think so - I lost track ... Dave B expressed interest in the Bizzarrini - but then came to his senses lots of entries left ... am I missing anyone? over a year left to complete ... Who else is in ?
  6. Pierre ! In america, when you invoice AFTER you’ve performed your work, its called a greeting card …. In ‘64 - 2287 had blisters riveted to the bottom of the rear fenders - to draw air into the back of the car - other sports cars had this feature - but i think that the Daytona Coupe was the first to sport these - interesting and cool looking - but not carried forward to the other Daytona Coupes ….
  7. Pierre Just saved me a whole lot of trouble - and so did Gramps …
  8. Dunked for about a minute in very hot water - not boiling - just Hot - then taped to a flat surface - the frame rails straighten out and behave … because we don’t want no kinky Daytona Coupe frames …
  9. Great save, Pierre Great! save … this picture was, i think, snapped by Dave Friedman, who was tabbed by Shelby to document the Daytona Coupe’s development and team racing in ‘64 And ‘65 … and as you can see - the frame rails are as straight as arrows…
  10. Too bad that Musk no longer seems to be interested in automotive design …. Do you think that - say - ten years ago - he had Pete Brock on speed dial ??
  11. That Cobra replica sitting forlornly in my mechanics shop posed for a shot of its beak…. That subtle curve visible looking down is correct - there is a great shot of 2287’s nose in 1964 in the Doug Morton Collection site …. The kit nose lacks this curve - gotta fix that …
  12. You snuck a pair of stereo speakers into that interior group shot - they do not appear to be photo-etched - tell us more …
  13. Thanks smiles - let us know the kit frame does have a kink in its forward members- i’ve got some ref pix fr Gramps that i can double check … hard to tell fr photos of the eng bay on a complete car…
  14. The fix required razor sawing a slot along the door line to “loosen” the panel - just short of removing it - then I glued the inner door panel and a sill that i made from L shaped Evergreen - this was wedged in under the door panel and forced the rocker to “uncurl” … by doing this i recaptured over two scale inches of body height - this was critical - because of the way in which the body attaches to the interior …
  15. The panels rocker panels have a tendency to curl in under the body … this is a mjor problem for several reasons …. I had tried to straighten them in hot water but they did not hold their shape …
  16. The exhausts are pressed into holes drilled into the cyl heads to check their run and fit - left side Looks better than the right - we’ll see …
  17. Prepping some of the suspension parts - here’s how they attach to the frame - the leaf springs on the front susp assembly will probably have to be re-done …
  18. Second primer coat - not there yet - flat spots fr sanding and some visible pores in the Renshape …. Using some white Tamiya primer to fill in the pores …. and i always carefully follow the directions on the bottle …
  19. Shall we call that packaging creativity or gross design negligence ?? The late Venom was actually able to build this kit with the steering arm wiggling thru the pipes - the added engine bay space will make this a little easier for me … but i can’t believe that Shelby signed off on this …
  20. ... because my shot of the engine bay of 2287 - taken when I got lucky at the Simeone - years ago - shows that the added space between the engine and the bulkhead is close to spec and now there is room for all of those fiddly details behind the engine ...
  21. I thought i mite move the engine mounts back a smidge - but my mockup w the engine casting tells me that i should not change this ….
