  1. Nothing you are doing would require something that strong. I don't know about the Aves, but your model will break before the JB Weld.
  2. I was thinking the same thing. The problem is that I'm building this box stock for contest. If this kit has been released by Round2 recently, (maybe the Passionate Poncho release) can someone check that issue to see if the problem was corrected?
  3. So, I've got the '62 Catalina Custom kit. It's pink on the box art and the car has side vent window frames, but no vent windows on the clear parts tree. The instructions show a windshield that wraps to cover the vent windows, but the actual part does not. Is this a "custom" feature of this kit or is it an issue with all the Catalina releases? Any help would be appreciated.
  4. I finally got some free time to get started. Not much to see just a lot of cleaning and painting. The way I see it, without adding extra detail, the best way to make a box stock build up pop, on a contest table, is three things. 1. A great finish, 2. eye catching style and 3. contrasting colors. So to that end I'm using flat black, semi-gloss black, aluminum, silver, gunmetal, titanium and flat red paints for the chassis and interior, and the body will be two tone gloss red over flat black.
  5. If I might make a recommendation, try using some 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol and an old toothbrush to help thin down that grey paint of before you start sanding.

  7. Outstanding. I've done this a couple times with lint-free cloths fresh from the package, but it's always hit or miss. Good to know there's a better product. Yours looks better also. Thanks much.
  8. Tell us more on how you did the seat covers. What sort of fabric did you use?
  9. This is your biggest problem. Not the kit. You are not into building models. The kit will require major modifications to get to your goal. So as a beginner modeler, odds are you will not achieve the quality you will want. So as I see it, you have two options. 1. Save up for the diecast. 2. Become a modeler. Learn the techniques to help you reach your goal. One takes time, patience and practice. The other requires some overtime at work. Your call.
  10. I've hit a bit of a snafu. I've designed the chassis to fit the interior cup rather precisely. The problem is, what I thought was the proper location for the interior cup, based on fit, was incorrect as the interior door lines pointed out to me. The result? My axle locations are about 10mm too far forward. Normally I'm a "measure twice, cut once" kinda guy, so this really has me pissed off. Hope to get it fixed this weekend.

  12. That's very cool. I'll be starting on this project very soon. I'm slowly gathering the materials.
  13. Not much to show yet. Got the parts clipped and sorted and will start cleaning up the mold lines tomorrow. Leaning towards a custom with some miles on it. Not a barn find, but rod that has a lot of miles and car shows under it's belt, in dire need of a rebuild.

  15. IMHO, the key to doing a box stock build is to find a kit that has good detail and molding right out of the box, AND has custom parts which is stuff you'd normally use anyway. With that in mind, I'm gonna do this Poncho. It's got great wheels and tires, it's nicely molded, and it already lowered. More soon.

  20. Very happy to hear that Mike. It's deserved I'm sure. We've always had a great bunch of builders in the Cannonball, who continuously innovate and impress, but never losing sight that this is a fun build off. My hats off to all of you.
  21. Okay guys. I'll go ahead and start it up this weekend.
  22. I've got nothing but more involved builds on the bench right now. Lots of modifications, scratch-building, detailing, and body work involved. And right now I'm in a slump with low motivation. I need a slump buster. So I'm fixing to start a box-stock build. A first for me in MANY years. I'm going to just do a clean, zero-modifications, no aftermarket parts, model with lots of style. I'm going to do it with box stock competition rules in mind so that I can show it later on, hopefully. If there is interest in a CBP on this subject, I'll start one and hopefully we can get each other motivated again. If not, no harm, no foul.
  23. Outstanding work. The 409 is a great idea. The front spring perch is really well done. Parts box builds are always satisfying.
  24. I've always Liked them too. I saw one recently turn an 11.5 at the local dragstrip on a test and tune night. Very impressive. It beat a Hellcat.
