  1. That was the original idea behind the design. The artist was heavily influenced by H.R. Giger, who designed the Alien and it's world. I'm planning to use it in the cockpit, but not outside. I still want to keep an armored look. Thanks for your interest guys.
  2. I've decided that I'm going to add some V-groove stock to the inside of these gills. I think it will look more armored than just leaving the area blank.
  3. Thanks Chuck. That makes a lot of sense. It's never a good thing when the studio cares more about marketing than making a good film. It destroyed this franchise. Sony's interferences with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man did the same, for the same reasons.
  4. Thanks. This one is really pretty easy I think. The one from Batman and Robin though, I've studied in some detail and after doing so.... I think it's beyond redemption.
  5. This is my second go at this kit. I built one for him box stock. This one is for me and my creativity.
  6. Like most you, I consider the Batman Forever and Batman and Robin batmobiles (suck it Joel Schumacher!) the worst of the bunch. But a few years back my wife's cousin, who is a special needs fella, brings me the Batman Forever batmobile kit and asks me to build it for him. He loves the Schumacher Batman films, and I'd never talk bad about what he loves. I happily agreed to build it for him. At 51 pieces it's an easy build and goes together well. While I was building it, I took a real good look at the lines of the body. Looking at the side profile, I start to see what the designer was going for, an H.R. Giger-esque biomechanical look. Biomechanical might work in Ridley Scott sci-fi movies, but not Batman. So while building that first one, I was convinced that I could fix this design. I built it for him box stock and he was very happy with it. The stripped down design really isn't that bad. It has an aerodynamic LSR type shape, armored tire sidewalls, full fenders, and a slick aircraft type canopy. All good. So to start with, losing the crazy center wing and the exposed mechanicals, are my first priority. If Batman was a real guy, he wouldn't want either of those. The center wing is taller by itself than the rest of the car. I have a few other ideas, but I'll get to those later. This built is just for me to get creative with and see if I can pull it off. I'm going to fill the openings in the "gills" with flat stock from the back. It will still have the ribbed look. Also, I'm going to cut off the bottom of the center wing and glue it in place and sand it down so that the ridge is still there. More soon.
  7. Well my thought was do a crazy combination of insanely fast and insanely weird, using the kit custom parts, like you've done. But the paint would be way rough. Like someone found a weird old Barris type custom in a barn somewhere, cleaned it up, dropped a 800+ horsepower engine in it, made it run/stop appropriately and then just enjoyed the weird looks it got. Kind of like that Farmtruck guy. Ugly as heck, but fast heck too.
  8. This one is sitting in my stash waiting for inspiration. Maybe I'll find some here. I like it so far.
  9. I think that the misspellings were done on purpose. To avoid the red tape of using other companies names.
  10. I thought the same when Fred Cady retired. I was positive someone would buy up his silk screens.
  11. I figured it would happen at some point. Racing drag vehicles on a street? C'mon.
  12. I can recommend JAXCON, an IPMS show in Jacksonville, Florida. @crazyjimDo you still have your shows in Ocala?
  13. Bruce hasn't been on this forum for about six years. He was a very active member back then and a terrific builder. I've no idea what happened to him.
  14. Quick update. Pics this weekend. I have decided against the stripe. It's very novel and it sure stands out on a custom, but it sure isn't what I would do to a 1:1. I'll be using some nice pin stripe decals instead. Also, if anyone plans on customizing one of these AMT '51's, do yourself a favor and be very careful sanding off the chrome hood ornament. I was a little to aggressive with mine and I ended up really messing up the lines/shape of the hood and it took me a few tries before I got it back looking proper.
  15. I could spend a lot of time in that thread. The 289 powered P1800s were very interesting. But sadly, my employer would rather I do some work. Break's over.
  16. I use 30 AWG wrapping wire also. It looks right to me.
  17. Well done. I like it.
  18. That's a cool custom Jim.
  19. Sweet! Very nice work. I did an F-Bomb inspired Camaro several years ago that remains one of my favorite builds.
  20. That's a great build off idea. Lots of options. I'd love to know what all the cards were. The Chevy is coming along great. It's right up my alley. Keep it going.
  21. Very interesting. Looks like you're getting ready to do a section job.
