What a smooth and clean rendition of the early 50s Fords, the overall look is well balanced with the front fender overhang in front of the wheel being balanced by the rear portion of the fenders on the bed. The execution of the body mods is perfect in delivering the smoothness of the build. Especially like the altered front grill with the color contrast. The modern wheels and updated engine fit well into the overall look. Great job Roger! Much more than just a shelf model. Cheers Misha

Here is my entry for the next round, a Shoebox project that dates back to 8 February 2017 using the most recent re-pop of the venerable AMT kit. I found the kit to have quite a bit of flash around the body mold lines which required a fair amount work to clean up. To massage the body I used the custom front and rear belly pan treatments, removed the chrome side trim and added a trim ring around the front fender wheel cutout with skirts on the back. Also added custom fairings for the side lake pipes. The hood required a further finessing to have it fit with added thin strips to the leading edge. The basic interior tub was rebuilt by cutting away the side panels and flipping them side to side to provide a blank canvas upon which to build the custom pleated door panels. The rear seat received a similar treatment as did the rear parcel shelf. Buckets from a 64 Fairlane filled the front portion using the stock dash and steering wheel. Underneath the chassis is featured in red with additional details picked out in a variety of metal finishes. The wheels are from the 40 Ford panel with the bladed Moons. The Y-Block Ford is from the 56 Vicky kit and is in the beginning stages of construction. The body was primed in Tamiya grey followed by the Testor Inca Gold. I particularly like the scale finish to the metalflake. So here she sits... waiting for completion to join the street ranks and cruise! Cheers Misha

Both front and rear clips differ considerably between the years. The 66 version uses a single headlight with smaller turn signals (with amber bulbs) whereas the 67 switched to dual headlights, a move that was not so succesful IMHO. Meanwhile the 67 rear clip looks much better with blended in taillights in a gentle curve along the trunk lid, much better than the previous year lights that appear tacked on. It would not be difficult to modify the kit if the 67 parts were available in resin or 3d modelling. The 66 interior featured western motif embellishments with two vertical divisions in each seat back which were changed to a single division the following year, again lessening the style of the original interior. Dad bought a 1966 Satellite as our first all brand new car back in September of 65 fresh off the show room floor. Pretty exciting for thus fourteen year old! Cheers Misha

Another thought is to use a trick from the armour modellers and use kleenex tissue, cut to size and slightly soaked in a white glue and water mixture to drape over the piece. You can form it around the tranny to fit and pinch in the belt areas with thread (maybe fit belts made from masking tape now as well). Let it dry to a hard finish, usually a day. Plus it's easy to do another one if the first one is a flub. Cheers Misha

Welcome aboard Bill! Sure you'll find a great community here. I moved out to Victoria in the early 80's and for the first six winters it was snow free, things have certainly changed over time. About fifteen years ago started wintering in Arizona, and here it has begun being relatively cold too. Past week the night time low temps have been chillier than the Cowichan Valley. Looking forward to seeing your work, what are your favoured areas? Also keep in mind the local club, SPAM, Scale Plastic Auto Modellers, a number of members are quite active in the forum here. After many years of using various compressors I would recommend the Iwata studio model if one is serious about airbrushing. It is very quiet, thankfully and has two lines running off of it, complete with seperate regulators and moisture traps. It is a bit more money yet very worthwhile. I would definitely stay away from the small hobby compressors, the ones without a holding tank, as the airstream pulsates from the compressor itself. With a tank that problem is eliminated. I've had my current one for six years and it has been trouble free and very quiet, so one can use it in an apartment or in the middle of the night for us insomniacs without disturbing anyone.
