Jonathan, I think you and Clay Kemp and Dave Thibodeau need to do a side by side Nascar build someday like Clay, Chris and John are doing with the drag cars. That would be awesome.

Looks good Tiago... looking forward to the next video now.

Great work.. that exhaust especially looks awesome and real.
-
Thanks Snake.. I'll give that a try!

Thanks everyone... just curious... how would I add spark plug wires to a build like this when it didn't come with a distributor? Also, what would I use for the wires?

It doesn't match the chrome on the bumper but neither does the real car. I think it looks great and just like the real thing. Perfect execution. What is the recipe for your homebrew liquid mask? That turned out to be a perfect masking job.

Looks awesome! These funny cars are so cool looking.

Hobby Lobby/ Michaels ?

I was at HL one day checking out and the lady in front of me was trying to bring up the coupon from the website. She was taking forever and the cashier and I were looking at each other frustrated. Finally the cashier noticed that I had my phone out and said can I scan your coupon for her... you can both use it. And we did I've been in HL two days in a row and used the same coupon. -
Thanks for the compliments and comments... I appreciate it. I will slow down and add more detail someday but being new to this it can be a little frustrating when you don't know what you are doing. However, just following the directions and getting decent results is fun for me now. When I finish building some of the models I want to build I do want to come back to this one and do it again with more detail. At that point I am sure I will be detailing them all more. I went back to HL yesterday to get another one of these and I got the last one a month ago and they still haven't gotten any more in. Now I did know that the body was suppose to be white with the spoiler and aluminum plating on the rocker panels black but I thought it would look better with the car silver and blue on the spoiler and rocker panels. I am glad it worked out or I would have had to redo it... at least I like it better. Jungle Pam??? I didn't know who she was and had to google her... Holy smokes!!! she is older than my mom but in her prime she was as hot as any woman I have seen. Wow! I am surprised she could get away with those outfits back then. Speaking of details, I've wonder how much a lot of the folks here spend on all the aftermarket parts. To me the kits seem expensive for what they are and then to add 2 to 4 times the price in extra parts. Then I realized that if I did that I would probably complete a detailed kit in the same time as I complete 2 or 4 without all the detail so the price spent probably comes out the same but the cars look much nicer. I look forward to getting to that skill level but I am not there yet. It is so satisfying for me now to complete one looking decent... and I learn so much from building them.

Bob Downie aka Zoom Zoom here wrote the article I believe. Look at his post which is the third post on this thread: I believe he has made more post about it as well and hopefully will see this and chime in.

Hobby Lobby/ Michaels ?

I've got to quit making a b-line for the model section and pay attention to the isles -
This is my 3rd and a half model as I had trouble with the paint on my last one and had to soak it in some Super Degreaser for a while to get the paint off. So I moved on to this Soapy Sales funny car that I got at Hobby Lobby. I'm trying to knock these out as fast as I can right now just to get some experience. I look forward to doing another funny car because I will know what to look out for and make the next build go a little smoother. This is totally box stock right down to the chrome super charger belt LOL. This time I wanted to put the craft acrylics and airbrush aside and do a kit with paint cans. It sure was a lot quicker and easier... the Duplicolor paints dried fast and smooth and no cleanup. I think my next build I will decant the Duplicolor paint and use it in my airbrushes as the cans waste a lot of paint. Right now I am happy with the Duplicolor lacquers.

Hobby Lobby/ Michaels ?

Thanks guys... I'll have to search the whole store or ask someone from the department the next time. I have found the clearance section in a corner at the very back of the store but never saw any modeling stuff. -

I see people posting that they got modeling supplies at Hobby Lobby on clearance. I've never seen any on clearance. Where do they put modeling clearance items? -
I almost bought this one recently but never liked the looks of it in any of the pictures I could find... however, yours looks good. Much better than the others I googled. I may have to reconsider.

Looks great just like the Blaney car. I guess this was the one you were building in tandem with that Blaney car?

Looks great Johnathan.. and I enjoyed following the build on your YT channel.

Side by side by side Dragster builds...Kemp-Teresi-Sobak
jchrisf replied to ClayK's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Everything looks great Clay.. I was going to asked how you weathered the tread on your rear tires but I went back and it looks like they came that way. The detail on your distributor is amazing... didn't even know anyone could get that kind of detail in such a small space. Thanks for the information on your airbrush setup -
Wow... that looks really good.

That second YT link that Brett Barrow posted above to Andy X's video series about Createx paints should be very helpful. I think there are seven or eight videos in the series. I've never used them and don't plan on using them but every time I have looked at them at HL I notice on the bottom of every row of paint it says if these paints will be used for plastic models you need to also use another one of their products with it. I can't remember what it was but the sign even gives the part number.

Andy did another video with the Paasche H where he shows how to thin Testors enamels and how he paints with them. Just real quick he gets a smooth, glossy paint job. He mixes at a 1:1 ratio and it looks like a lot of paint but it is half Lacquer thinner which dries almost instantly when sprayed like this. Incidentally, Amazon had the Paasche H at one of their lowest prices today and there was a 15% coupon that could be applied (shows up by the price, just click it if they are still offering it). I got the Paasche H set with all three heads, hose, etc. for $49 shipped two day shipping. I am a prime member if that makes a difference.
