That's a great looking model of a really cool car. The best part about it is that I know its a touch build...it does not just fall together and ours looks like it did. The ride height is perfect and I also know that had to take some work. Very nice... I came inches from buying a yellow 84 Esprit back in the early 90s...My uncle (who had a new one) talked me out of it, which was probably a good thing (one repair bill would have given me bad regrets). Instead I bought a 1991 MR2 and I drive it 9 years Very nice Build.

1980's Toyota Celica-Supra WIP *engine bay/firewall detailed!*
Jeff Johnston replied to brodie_83's topic in WIP: Model Cars
very interesting build for sure. We had an 87 Supra and loved it...until winter LOL I someday plan to build that one too. The line on the roof is because the paint is hot. You might be able to cover it with some mist coats. When that happens to me I tend to strip it and start over. If you use a good primer (like Plastikote) and put the color coats in in light mist coats, you might not get that line again. The other alternative is to seal it with a coat of future before you prime it. Nice build for sure. I can't believe I haven't see this yet. -
I'll be there tomorrow. I have a Shelby that will be on the table that I finished a month or so ago. Hopefully they will get a good turn out.

Best place to buy Tamiya Spray paint
Jeff Johnston replied to Prostreet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
best place to buy Tamiya spray I think is Japan. My not so local hobby shop still has a lot, but has run out of the staple colors like Semi Gloss Black, primer, silver, etc. -
Its actually a 64 1/2 that I will try to convert into a 66 GT using the grille from the 66 Shelby & GT lights from the 67. It'll be painted Emberglo.

Cursing....Really?
Jeff Johnston replied to Kaleb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
the site will do that automatically if you use a curse, or even a non curse. I wrote once that something looked like c r a p and it was pounded out. SO it does not necessarily have to be a swear to end up looking like this #### -
Ain't that the truth !!!

What did you see on the road today?
Jeff Johnston replied to Foxer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
this isn't a new pic but still probably the most interesting find I'll ever have. This one I fooled with to make look like an old photo. -
Wooo Hoooo! Issue# 161 arrived today!
Jeff Johnston replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't care if mine comes a month after everyone else. Whenever it gets here I'll read it cover to cover, as I always do. I tend to get mine after everyone else, but that's OK by me. I was excited to see Mark put my junker Falcon in the resin column last month...and a big pic too ! Plus,,, I got a resin Starliner convertible for it too! Ya just can't beat that folks !!! I get both magazines, as I am sure most of us do, and I very much enjoy them both...but MCM really is a step above, and I'm not just saying that because I'm here. It really is the better publication by far, IMHO. -
MCM Article on R&MoM
Jeff Johnston replied to Tom Setzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to agree. There are a handful of (maybe 2 or 3) resin casters that set the standard for everything else to be compared to, and Norm's stuff is in the top two of that list. I emailed him once asking about a 67 Mustang kit I bought at a hobby shop. It has the non GT grille, finned rear valance, rocker panel molding, detailed side vents, and the non GT grille chrome. He told me that he did not do that one anymore but that he'd make one special for me if I wanted it. We agreed I;d pick it up at NNL east, which I did. I think he only charged me 12 bucks and I know I paid at least 15 for the one I bought before. -
I'm with you Harry. I'm not afraid to fly, but I don't like the process of getting on the plane... stand in line, take off your shoes, load everything on the belt...the person behind standing in your "bubble" making you feel rushed...gathering all your stuff off the end...trying to get your shoes on while you stuff your computer back in its case, while the person's stuff behind you runs into all your stuff. Then trying to find a bin for your stuff on the plane that's near your seat while the person next to you decides that both of the armrests are for him, and the 5 year old behind you thinks its fun to kick the back of your seat..... Oh yeah baby..good times Though if I could get a couple nights in Chicago I'd do it. I used to go every November for a work conference and had a great time. I met Buddy Guy there several times and even got on stage once at the House of Blues and played with the band. i have a couple favorite restaurants/pubs there too.

Where were you, or have you forgotten?
Jeff Johnston replied to highway's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to ask the philosophical question...politically incorrect as it will be..... Who on earth coined the phrase "never forget". It makes no sense... Who on the planet could ever forget that day and what it meant ? Its like saying never forget to breathe. OK thanks, I'll be sure to remember to breathe. I'm not saying this to anyone in particular...for years I just understood saying "never forget" where just about everyone without Alzheimers can tell you exactly where they were and what they were doing..including my son who was in 1st grade at the time.. What we should never forget is that there are still people out there who hate us, who would like nothing more but to attack us again, and that we need to be prepared and aware. I remember where I was, what I did, who I called, and all that. My story isn't particularly interesting so I won't share it. My kids and I have been watching all the shows this week and some of the stories are incredible, and very touching. -
IPMS model contest eureka mo was a joke!
Jeff Johnston replied to 71drolds's topic in Contests and Shows
I like contests because it makes me a better builder. I learn something from someone every single time I go. I am also not ashamed to say that when I put a model on the table, I want to win. If I don't, believe me it doesn't ruin my day...or even a second of my life. But I'm a generally competitive person so if its a model contest, golf, or a game of tidly winks... I want to win. I have to agree with Droid that its strange not to pick up any model at a contest. Though anyone detailing the chassis I assume has the visible part detailed as well. I mean, who super details a chassis and not an engine . The issue I see with this is that if (2) models are in the running for the 1st, the chassis detail might be the difference between 1st and 2nd, or 3rd, etc... -
Confidence builder
Jeff Johnston replied to MILD's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had some fit issues (and some subsequent fits) with my dart too. I also suggest the Revellovram 70 Mustang. The kit goes together so nicely and stands straight on all 4 wheels every time. Plus its not a snapper so you're building a full detail kit that you don;t have to worry about not fitting together. Also the 67 Chevelle fits that description too. -
Wooo Hoooo! Issue# 161 arrived today!
Jeff Johnston replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just got an issue a couple weeks ago, with the 1/12 sprint car on the cover. I assume this must have been 160. -

Paint drying time
Jeff Johnston replied to sportandmiah's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I should have bought the DVD at NNL EAST !! DOH.. Great paint work by Don for sure... Wierd, speaking of psi though... I get my best results at 10-15 PSI, and paint thinned just a little more than I "normal". If I use Tamiya or Wet Look clear I use the same psi. With the Urethane clear, of course I need to kick it up to 30 psi or so. I'd love to use testors bottle enamels since there are so many colors to choose from. -
Great stuff there.
