Army HEMTT M983 Tractor
Hermann Kersten replied to delta99's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That is really a great build. I am also happy to see this one in a sand color rather than a green color because this is a big benefit to the nice details. The weathering fits perfectly to the model. Hermann. -

Wow Charles, after a lot of work, you managed to present us a beautiful model. I love the many details, the engine , the pump the hoses....realy beautiful, pure and indistinguishable from the real thing. Thank you for sharing. Hermann -
Despite the mishaps, the build look great. If you have that again with the another kit, just place the decal sheet on your windowsill in bright sunlight. After 2 or 3 weeks of sunlight, the yellow has disappeared and it is nicely white again. I did this also with a few kits from the 70's and early 80's, and the white on the decals stay white until today. Hermann.

The cap is coming from the big CTM Freightliner detail set, there are 2 rain caps in the set for a double stack. Even for a FLA or a FLB the set contains enough parts which are useful for these models. Yes guys, the wiring is done now and the moon covers are all attached to the rims. The last wiring will be the trailer wires which i will attach when the cab is attached on the chassis. As most of you know, i get my most info from purplewave.com and the following photo was largely my reference point. Source: purplewave.com And the progress so far with the wiring..... The rear lights are also from a CTM set. And the air line from the compressor to the chassis. This line is made of brass rod, bent it in the right shape, painted in a silver color, and to soften the metallic of the silver, I dry- rubbed it with chrome powder from Ushi vdr Rosten and a cotton swab to give the pipe a really smooth metal look. And the last one is a picture of the baby moon covers which I treated with a Molotow chrome marker. Now I continue with the cabin, which I still have enough work to do. That's it for today and see you next round! Hermann.

Round sanding sticks
Hermann Kersten replied to hedotwo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
In general you are right, at times the cheap ones are also handy and useful and, of course, it is also up to the user whether he uses the tools correctly, in this case it doesn't matter whether they are expensive or cheap tools. Anyway, i invest in good files also .... And some times I use also the plastic round sanding sticks which Rich is looking for. Hermann. -

Thank you for liking the colors guys! Today more colors and a start of the many small details on this FLB. The weather is still awesome, so i could finish the paint job of the chassis. Before we take a look on that, first some small details like the small doorwindow frames. The CTM set contains these frames, but with the FLA and FLB, the lower edges are straight and not rounded. In this case i had to made them by myself, and file the rounded edges in these polystyrene frames. Later they will be glued on the outer side of the windows and then you have these frames inside the main window frame. This is what I'm talking about. A lamp in the back of the cabin, of which the housing is made of an aluminum tube, and in which a transparent glass is placed. The next job was to remove the toy looking chrome from several parts like the baby moon covers and some light housings, which later will be attached on the outside of the side deflectors. And the first baby moon covers on the modified rear hubs and the rims from Scenes Unlimited which are equipped with the tires of the AMT Papa Truck. Then the side deflectors self, on the inside i made the mounting brackets, and on the outside the last rivets which are glued at the height of these mounting brackets. If you look good, you can see a small 0,5mm hole in the upper part, after the final paint job the work lights will be attached in these holes. I made also a start with the wiring, fisrt I attached these wires on the inside of the chassis before I placed the engine, because these areas are difficult to access when the engine is installed. Then the stack with cover and some weathering on the top of this stack.... The first headlights in the corners of the housings, these headlights are also from a CTM set. And the top- or roof lights which are from the FLD kit. And finally, everything so far together..... Yeah guys, it's getting somewhere, still a lot work to do before this one is completed. The decals have already been shipped from the USA, I am really excited to receive and view them ...... and to use them of course. See you next time! Hermann.

Thank you for the nice compliment JT. Today some color for this Freightliner. After a lot of thinking, doubting and looking at and comparing reference photos, I finally made up my mind what kind of paint scheme I'd like to use. This is the photo that convinced me ... The only difference between the picture and my Freightliner is, that i use dark grey or black chassis covers. In any case, I have already sprayed the base color on the cabin with Motip car paint. A small tip that I have accidentally encountered, if you spray clear coat on the primer, and then the normal colors over the clear coat, you do not have to worry that you pull off the paint when masking. Somehow, the clear coat not only hardens, but also completely seals the primer. Just a small but imo not an unimportant tip.? And some colors to choose for the lower color tone, I think the gold will do it, what you think guys? The white striping will be done with the pin-striping from Jerry, but we have to wait patiently for the order, because the mail has also been delayed due to the current global circumstances. Anyway, I still have plenty to do. That's it for today, and see you next round! Hermann.

Hello everyone, At the moment it is really good weather with great temperatures for some paint jobs. Today i finished the clear coat on this FLB cab and put the cab next to the FLA to compare the color tone. Now with the clear-coat, the brown metallic color gives a bit more depth and of course the shine. Next job is the paint job of the chassis. See you next round! Hermann.

Hello everyone, Today it's time to show some colors. After a little coincidence, I found out that hen you spray the clear coat on the primer, and then the metallic on the clear coat, the metallic color has a more shiny result then with other way around. So, with this knowledge i did. the same thing with the FLA Raised Roof cab. And the result after i sprayed the Motip copper color for this FLB. The clear coat for the finishing has not done yet, i always wait at least 24 hours before i continue with the clear coat. In the meantime I ordered several decal sheets from Jerry, including the striping for this cab. Before striping I tested the following colors in the drawing program on the PC, which resulted in these colors. The striping itself is like the one in the picture below. When these decal sheets are arrived, i will see if i will use the whole striping or just partial, both are possible. Then the result so far. Yes folks, with this FLB I'm in the final stage now. See you next round! Hermann.
