'67 Jeepster
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanx Ron! If your Jeepster has the side markers, I'd like to see a photo of it. Mine was advertised as a '69. But, it didn't have the side markers. So, it's actually a '67. -
Just finished this one up.It's a bash with the panel van. It supplied the chassis that's modified, floor pan/bed floor and bed sides. The pickup supplied the engine, cab, interior and inner bed sides. I didn't do a lot of details as I wanted it to be a fairly simple build. It's just a shelf model anyhow. The interior and engine are painted with Tamiya Dull Red. The body is painted with Dupli Color Desert Sand Mica. Foose wheels and Pegasus disc brakes finish it off. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's a long way from my original vision of it I had fifteen years ago. Thanx for checking it out! Any questions, just ask.

That's a sharp looking little Mustang! So glad it isn't stock! Nice work!

Thanx guys, I appreciate the great comments!

Thanx! I did design that way. The chrome strips would be attached to the windows. So, when they would be down, it would look like a hardtop. Up, looks like a post top. That was the idea anyway.

This is my first serious old school custom I built around four years ago. It's the old familiar AMT kit with the roof from the Revell '50 Olds chopped three scale inches in front, four in the rear. The headlight hoods and quarter panel extensions were formed with .010 styrene. I scratch built the tube grille, fender skirts and tail lights. All glass is clear acetate. Paint is Krylon Pistachio Green and Tamiya Pearl White. Wheels and tires from Pegasus. Lakes pipes are from an AMT '62 Catalina. The interior has the bucket seats and console from an AMT '57 Ford. The dash was smoothed and modified for a better fit. A steering wheel from an AMT '55 Chevy was added with a scratch built suicide knob. The door panels got sanded smooth and diamond pleats were scribed in. Paint is Krylon Pistachio Green (dash and floor), Tamiya Pearl White and Model Masters Diamond Green (door panels, seats and console). On the chassis, I lowered the suspension and modified the front for posable wheels. I made the brake lines to the backing plates flexible to allow the wheels to be turned. The engine is from an AMT '50 Chevy pickup. Dual carb intake, breathers, headers and valve cover are from an AMT '37 Chevy. Carbs and dual exhaust are from an AMT '51 Chevy convertible. Thanx for checking it out! Any questions, just ask.

That's a nice looking little Nova Lou! I like the trunk detail and the tinted windows.

'67 Jeepster
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanx! It has the kit V-6. I shortened the blower and intake to fit it. I had to move the distributor to the rear also. The electric fan setup had to be mounted in front of the radiator. Here's a couple of photos that show the engine better. -
Just Sump'un I Had to Try

First time I did it was on an AMT '57 Ford around fifteen years ago. -

Thanx! I've looked at that. Looks like the tail gate is missing the license plate light and the scripts. Hard to tell in the photo though. Also, I saw no mention of bumpers. The bumpers on the '67-'71s had the rounded bumpers. The '72 has the flat bumpers. -

Thanx! More than likely, yours is a '67 also. Unless it has side markers. Mine was supposedly a '69. But, research proved it to be a '67. -
Nice looking Plymouth! It's also nice to see something besides a Hemi under the hood.

This is a restoration I started a few years ago and finished around a year ago. It was a builtup I got on ebay. The description didn’t show what top came with it. So, I took a chance thinking maybe it had the full top. No full top. Just the goofy looking convertible top. But, thanx to my good friend Jeff Salem, I was able to scratch build my own using his as a template. I made mine more accurate by adding the rubber detail around the side windows and the reveal at the bottom. The chassis was glued solid. So, I snagged a new one from a newer kit. I also used the drivetrain, floorpan, seats, dash, steering wheel and shifters. Tires are from a toy. Wheels are from an AMT '72 Blazer. I cut the hubcaps from a set of wheels covers. The body and interior panels stripped clean as new. I enlarged the rear wheel openings and made a new lip to make room for the 38" Swampers. I opened the cowl vent, added a hood scoop and scratch built a new splash pan. Paint is Dupli Color Avignon Blue metallic and Tamiya Pure White. I wanted a driver quality paint job. So, just a single coat of clear with no polishing. I also didn't want bright chrome. All of the trim and bumpers were foiled with matte aluminum. The interior was painted the same blue with Dupli Color Bahama Blue accents on the seats. The only modification was removing the door handle and detail from the quarter panels. The engine got a modified blower from the Revell Rat Roaster, four barrel carburetor, air cleaner from an AMT '57 Corvette, scratch built headers and details. Thanx for checking it out!

'55 F-100
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanx! I had every intention of doing that modification. But, after studying the body for a while, I decided against it. To me, that modification looks right with a stepside bed. But, with this bed, my concern was that it would give it an AWB look. Especially with the amount of overhang at the rear. -

I'm now around 95% done with the paint work. I have just a few small pieces left. The body needs a good sand and polish. When I first started spraying the paint, I wasn't too sure about my color choice. But, now that I can see what it looks like together with the wheels, I really like it. I'm undecided about painting the spokes on the wheels body color. I like how they look in solid chrome. -
Parts recommendations please!

I'd use a diesel engine of some kind with a set of stacks. That truck looks like it has a C on the hood. So, it probably has a Cummins. I'd look at some road tractor kits for a donor. It could also supply the wheels and tires. Maybe the frame too. -
1972 Chevy Blazer Custom

Wicked looking Blazer! -
I buy my Tamiya paint from ebay. Just type in what you're after in the search bar and it'll pull up the results.

Monogram 1/24th scale 1930 Model A Coupe

Couldn't agree more! IMO, that model is the blueprint of how one should be done. And one photo doesn't begin to do it justice. -

That is one COOL looking old Ford truck! The colors are perfect and the wheels/tires really set it off! What's the source of the wheels and tires? -

Thanx guys! I got the chassis put together. Needs a tweak here and there. Not a lot of modifications. Just enough to make it better and get the stance I want. I should be spraying primer soon! -
I'm typically not a fan of of T buckets or track noses. But, this model has that "just right" look to it! Nice work!
-
Nice survivor! I built that kit back when I was a kid. I've thought about buying one to take another stab at it.

First Look - Round 2's updated AMT 1963 Impala SS
Plowboy replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wonder how well the chassis' from the Revell '62-'64 Impalas would work? Thinking the '62 came with a 409 also. The '62 and 3 have small blocks. I have the Revell kit. But, never have built it.
