Thanx Carl! They're the Kelsey Hayes wires from the Revell '32 sedan. Same as in the first photos. Just painted black. That's why I'm changing the color on them.

Steve, I like the small caps better myself. The stock caps look a little too big to me. Right now, I'm not sure if these wheels will even make the cut. I'm going to have to see them painted along with the body. The plan is to paint them Light Gun Metal at the moment. I have the frame, rearend, engine/accessories and the interior in paint. The Dull Red isn't much different than red oxide primer. A little darker. But, not much. I think it'll look good with the Mica Silver. The engine is just Dupli Color Bright Red. I think once it's all together, it'll take a sharp eye to notice that it's actually a DOHC Ford engine. The dead giveaway will be the serpentine belt and coil packs of course. I can't wait to get the chassis back together so I can do some mockups to see how it's going to look.

Did I miss a re-release?
Plowboy replied to The Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The description states from the middle '70s. So, no. -
'62 Ford F-100
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanx guys, I appreciate all of the great comments! When I finished this model, I thought never again! But, I'm kinda thinking of doing another one with either a built '60 or a fresh '77. -
More Civilised Debate On This Forum

Considering how Gregg just recently updated everyone on his/the magazine's situation, I don't see how starting yet another thread about it is going to accomplish anything. We know what's going on. Why does it need to be discussed further? -

There's a nice one under the AMT Phantom Vickie kit. You can get 'em dirt cheap usually. -
Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
Plowboy replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Having recently built this kit, I found a few issues with it: 1 The fit of the grille is not very good. The headlight bezels should be flush with the header. I filed as much as I could. But, still had to trim the top of the bezels and rework them to get a decent fit. 2 The bottom of the trunk lid and quarter caps have a lip that needs to be trimmed flush to get a better fit. 3 The wheelwell lips are a little oversized and don't terminate correctly at the bottom. If you look at them at a 3/4 view, immediately noticeable. 4 The hood doesn't quite fit flush with the header panel. I shaved the header panel on the inside, placed the hood on the body and sanded them together to get a good fit. These are all simple and minor fixes. What isn't a simple or minor fix is the interior. The dash is FUBAR'D. It's not even close. As soon as I saw it, I knew it wasn't right. To get an accurate dash, you'll have to rob one from the AMT '68 El Camino and either remove the A/C vents or convert it over to A/C. The problem stems from the door panels being too thick at the top. They measure right at 4 mms thick at the top. They actually lean in. The rear seat is narrower at the top. Somehow, the left side of the dash leans in more than the right. This causes the the instrument and convenience cluster to also lean as well as become cramped for space. Here's a comparison photo. If one doesn't care about the accuracy of the interior, it's not an issue. Build it as is. If one does, you have some work ahead of you. The AMT dash will fit the Revell body no problem. But, it's missing the speaker and defroster detail. I grafted in those from the Revell dash and added the tabs to the sides. The door panels are fairly simple to fix. Just trim away a couple of mms per side. The problem comes in on the quarter panels. They need to be bent in at the top. Then finally, you have to add 2mms per side at the top of the rear seat and feather it out towards the bottom. When I built mine, I glued the firewall piece in only at the top and smoothed it with the top of the cowl. This allowed the body to still be able to spread to get the chassis in. Even doing that, the body has to be spread quite a bit. I can't imagine how much it would need to be spread to get it over the firewall if it were glued to the interior tub. Plus, it eliminates the joint between the cowl and firewall. The chassis is excellent. You couldn't ask for a better fit between the frame and floor pan. The remaining suspension pieces fit great and assembled easily. Even though I had modified them. -
'50 Ford F-1
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanx! Yeah, that went over about as well as a fart in church. Someday, I want to give the '50 Chevy a similar treatment. -
That's a sharp looking little Camaro Steve! I really like the color! Did you add the chrome strip on the rockers?
-
This will be the first conversion I do with one. I wish I could set it up like my '67 Jeepster and be able to just switch tops or leave it off. Have to see when I get my hands on it.

This is the only paint job that I've done that I would call perfect. It'll probably never happen again. But, it happened once.
-
Thanx guys! I just ordered the paint for it. The body will be Tamiya Mica Silver. The top and interior will be Tamiya Dull Red. Thinking I'll paint the wheels either Dull Red or Light Gun Metal.

Toyota 1/24th scale New Old School
Plowboy replied to disconovaman's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I have the crew cab, the long bed regular cab and the 4 Runner. Never have bought this kit. Never have built the other three either. They're nice looking kits. I just never have got around to them. -
'62 Ford F-100
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
On the body, I chopped the top 3.5 scale inches, shortened the bed 12 (7 in front of the wheel wells, 5 behind). The reason I did it that way is I don't like how stubby the rear of the bed looks on the full scale truck. To me, this is better proportioned. The tail gate got filled, roll pan added, filled cowl vents, removed the wipers, emblems etc. The bed cover is scratch built and hinged. Inside the bed, I scratch built the center section of the floor, air compressor and the tank (section of a Bic lighter). Battery boxes are from the AMT Phantom Vickie. Paint is Tamiya Light Blue with a coat of pearl and clear. Dupli Color Bahama Blue for the interior and bed cover. I'm sure there's stuff I missed. Any questions, just ask. Thanx for checking it out! -
I could write a page or more on this old truck model describing all of the work I did to it. But, I won't to save on the yawn factor. The short version is I basically started with a body, dash, a pair of seats, console, engine, transmission, rearend, steering rack and scratch built the rest. Long version. I'll condense as best I can. The chassis is all scratch built except for the rearend and steering rack. All of the details are simulated to run through the chassis like the air, brakes and fuel line. A set of Pegasus Shuey wheels and disc brakes finish it off. The engine/trans and mufflers are from a Revell Mach III Mustang. The interior tub is scratch built. I used the original dash with the seats and console from a Revell T-Bird SC. Steering wheel is from the Mach III. The dual master cylinders are from a pro street T-Bird. The speakers are from an AMT Dodge 50. The rest in the next post. Don't want to get a 404 error.

I now have most of the major parts in primer. I should be able to start some painting this evening. It'll be a bit before the body is ready. But, it's getting there.

Tail Dragger Custom '50
Plowboy replied to JollySipper's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
^^^ That'll work! With the tail dragger stance, I'm wondering what it would look like with skirts on the rear? Normally, I would say "no way!!". But, this may be the exception. -
A must have 2 or 3 times!

Tail Dragger Custom '50
Plowboy replied to JollySipper's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
How about the tail lights from the Revell '49 Mercury (I think they're '50 Pontiacs) flush mounted into the fenders? A set of tail lights from the '61 Ranchero may also work. You might could blend part of the quarters in also. Keep at it. You'll find something you like. -
I now have enough cobbled together that I can blow it apart and begin the putty, sand and primer process. I'll start with the chassis and work my way up. It will be simple as it's straight from the box. I'm not 100% on the wheels. I may change the color. The spokes just seem to disappear with the black. I've got quite bit more done: The fenders are filled. Rear seat is cut down to fit. I added a reveal to the roof. I'm going to keep it a hard top. I got the induction setup. It's from the AMT '53 Ford pickup. I just gotta modernize it a bit. I found a set of headers from the Revell '50 Ford pickup. They fit almost perfect. I still haven't nailed down a color. I got time for that though. I've got a few little tweaks left to do. But, I should spraying some primer in a couple of days.

Thanx guys! I got a little more done. I couldn't stand looking at the wheels all chrome any longer. So, I got them painted to see how they would look. I think they'll work. I got the engine put together and found a set of Hemi valve covers that fit perfect. Still haven't figured out the induction. I bobbed the rear fenders to see how they would look. I like them better. So, I think I'll just fill in the gap between them and the running boards. I'm planning on smoothing them anyway. I'm going to use the seats from the AMT '34 sedan. I just have to cut the back down to the right height. I'm still just cobbling stuff together together to see what does or doesn't work. I haven't nailed down a color yet. I'm thinking of a silver or gray metallic. I have to see what's in the stash.

Nice looking Galaxie! My only suggestion would be to switch the front wheels to the 19" Hellas.
-
Thanx! I replaced the windshield with one from a '70 Impala. The rear glass is original and the quarter windows are clear sheet.

Do you prime all pieces
Plowboy replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I primer every piece. It makes a big difference when it comes time to paint. It covers so much better over primer than bare styrene.
