  2. Easy pick for me. Although I have a bunch that I think are cool. This one checks all of the boxes for me. This model has the most working features and scratch building I've ever done. I doubt I'll ever build another that does it for me like this one does.

  4. I have the AHC-100 Camaro. But, I don't like the T-top. I may have to try to get the Ralley Sport to build instead.

  6. They're still fairly common on ebay. I have a second one if you're interested in it. It's a promo. I don't know if they made a kit of the '61 Comet.

  8. Thanx! I'm thinking the same thing. The Gunmetal is almost black. I'm planning on doing just one light coat over the primer. I'm thinking with the X brace and mufflers (if I use any) installed, it won't be very noticeable. I'm not going to sweat it either way.
  9. I now have all of the prep work done except for the body. Removing mold lines is so monotonous! I've changed the color yet again. I'm going with Tamiya Gun Metal. It's a lot darker than the Light Gun Metal. It should really pop against the red on the side trim and the interior along with the aluminum or silver bumpers. With the prep work done, I got in on the chassis. I made sub frame connectors with an X brace and center plate. The connectors are made from 2.5 x 4 styrene strip and the X brace is .100 rod. Something I've been mulling over is whether or not to glue the interior pan to the chassis. It would allow me to make the driveshaft tunnel smooth. But, it could also make things a pain later with the interior.

  11. With prepainted models, I've found that they don't have much paint on them anyway. So, I just give them a good sanding with 400 grit, follow with 600 and primer as usual.
  12. Out of curiosity, I pulled out my Revell '63 Impala to check it out. As Sam stated, the only issue with the chassis is the suspension. Easily fixed by simply wrapping an appropriate sized wire around the rods that they have in place of the springs. What I thought was cool about it is the adjustable ride height. It even has a separate frame that neither the AMT or Revell '62 Impala has.

  14. Thanx! The windshield and rear glass are original. The side windows are acetate. I figured that emblem had to have a color on it. But, I never could find it online. Every one I saw was blank. I guess over time they just faded out. Thanx for the info! I can fix that issue easily. I'm also going to fix the crooked front bumper. I just dread cutting it loose from the grille.
  15. Since you don't need to save the top, I would use a Dremel and cut off wheel. Leave plenty to trim and sand. Sounds brutal. But, it puts much less stress on the body. I've cut down very delicate pieces with a Dremel and cut off wheel. Even glass on rare kits.
  16. The warpage and cracking issues could explain why AMT changed the body on this kit never to return. The way it's made, I don't see how the roof and sides aren't warped also.
  17. It may look like it. But, it ain't! I built this a few years ago using an original promo and a Revell '64 T-Bolt. The promo supplied the body and interior. The T-Bolt supplied the rest. The interior was cut apart, reworked and glued to the T-Bolt floor pan. Paint is Krylon Red and Model Masters Wimbledon White. The chassis got the frame rails tied together and an X brace added. It got a moderate weathering. The engine is from the T-Bolt with Mercury valve covers and details added. The body got the underhood core from the T-Bolt grafted in. I opened and hinged the trunk. Paint is Model Masters Wimbledon White. This is the thinnest paint job I've ever accomplished. Only three coats. I wanted a survivor finish. So, I sanded it smooth and gave it a light polish. Modelhaus supplied all of the chrome pieces. Thanx for checking it out! Any questions, just ask.
  18. Yeah, I know. I was under the impression that the original poster was talking about using the Revell '62 Impala chassis under the Revell '63 Impala body. Kinda confusing when both companies make both kits.
  19. That was my only issue also. But, some styrene rod fixes it easily. What's odd is the '65 has the detail on the forward section of the floor pan. I figure at some point, Revell will make this kit a convertible. Maybe. I would've rather seen this issue have a nice set of current large diameter wheels like they did with the "California Wheels" kits years ago. I would have bought one or two. But, I still have a couple in the stash. So, I don't need this one.

  21. I can't wait to see what you do with this build! I'm not a fan of Fordors. But, I'm sure you'll change my mind about them.
  22. I used steel wire. Brass would probably be better. But, I use what I have. I used crazy glue to glue the hinge to the lid.
  23. I was thinking the Revell '63 Impala had a decent chassis? I have the kit. But, never have really checked it out.
  24. Exactly. The window pieces can be used as a template to cut the windows out.
  25. Check the AMT Chevy rescue van. It was reissued not too long ago. I'm pretty sure it's the same wheelbase.
