Has anyone channeled a Revel '37 Ford pickup?
Plowboy replied to BadJuju's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
One suggestion regarding sectioning the radiator: make your first cut lower like just above the flat area where the bottom hoses mount. That way, when you glue it back together, there won't be a noticeable line. Looks like you have it planned out well. I didn’t remember the door panels having a notch in them. But, it's been a while since I built mine. When you get started, post a thread in the progress section. -
AMT/MPC '84GMC 2WD pickup

That's a sharp looking GMC Steve! I really like the two two tone paint and the wheels! Nice work! -
69 Chevy base C/10

That's a nice looking Chevy truck Rich! The scratch built camper top really makes this model! To me, there's nothing cooler than a model built after a full scale owned by the builder. -
I'd use .015 or .020 styrene. The .015 equals 3/8". The .020 equals 1/2".

What would YOU like to see as a model
Plowboy replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd like to see an '81 Malibu. Revell already has the chassis/drivetrain with the '83 Oldsmobile. They could span different years with a simple tail light, nose piece and seat pattern swap. -
37 Ford pickup chopped & dropped

Thanx Bill! You're the first one to catch that little detail. It took a bit of work to do it. But, the effort was worth it to me. -
'59 El Camino

Nice looking El Camino David! I like the subtle approach you went with! I've wondered what the Wood Deck Tan would look like on a model. Now I know! I'll have to get a can on my next order. -
AMT The Green Hornet Black Beauty Kit
Plowboy replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Something the folks that are disappointed/not interested (I'm one of them) in this kit need to remember is that we're not the only ones that Round2 produces kits for. How many times have we got that kit we wanted? I honestly hope this kit does well for Round2 so they can keep producing new kits and reissuing those old kits we thought we would never see again. -
What's in the box, Revell 66 Chevelle.

After all of the hype over the TV car, I'm a little disappointed that it's the Black Beauty from the Green Hornet. I never saw the show. So, I have no connection to it.

I have to disagree on that one Rusty. To me, the rear is pretty wonky looking. Especially around the tail lights. It's like they're too big for the body. -
Cutting round wheel wells in a body

I use a Dremel with a router bit to get it close to the line. Then trim with an Xacto, rounded file and finish with sandpaper. -
Cutting round wheel wells in a body

My procedure is very simple. I place a tire the size I want the opening to be and trace it. Measure and repeat for the other side. -

That's what I did with mine. I wanted the bottom of the cab and bed to be on the same plane. This thread has given me a hankering to build another '37 pickup. Too many other projects going right now though. -
Revell 32 Ford Roadster REVISED (former Rat Roaster tool)
Plowboy replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I doubt it. I don't think Revell would be able to leave the Rat Roaster parts due to licensing. Regarding the shipping crisis, I believe the major issue is the lack of workers more so than anything. And it's pretty much the case in every industry seems like. A friend of mine who's younger than me got fed up with the worker issue, fuel prices, etc. and sold his trucking company. A lot of the older workers are retiring and there's no one to take their place. Not many younger people want to drive a semi or delivery truck. It's not a life many people want. -
I would get rid of the divider on the rear window. It would make it a true three window. I agree with cutting away some of the drip rail also.

I'll still get one just for nostalgia's sake. To me, it's an easy, simple, no stress build. I need that every once in a while. I'm going to wait for the price to go down in a few weeks before I buy one though. I built the Lindberg many years ago and it has several issues. To me, it seems under scale like a 1/26. It would interesting to see how it compares size wise to the Revell '67. -

Kinda. But, the '37 pickup's body can't set on top of the frame rails as the body is wider than the frame. Even stock with the running boards removed, it almost covers the frame rails. If I'm not mistaken, '33 and later Fords are the same. -

Here's a photo of Dennis' '37 that I snagged. http://public.fotki.com/deucepu/37-pickup-chopped--/dscn5720.html -
The thing I didn't like about the Revell '62 was that it came with no top. Then, later, they issued it with a top as a gasser. I didn't buy either one. But, if the first version had came with a top, I would have bought it.

Thanx! It's one of very few that turned out better than I expected. That's why I want to make it better. -

I did it years ago Garry. But, my memory of how I did it isn't very good. What I do recall is that I notched the rear of the cab and the firewall to lower it over the frame. Then, I cut the floorpan loose from the fender unit and simply glued it to the frame. Dennis Lacy built a very cool looking high boy version years ago. I'm pretty sure he posted it here. Go to his profile and look through his topics. You should be able to find it. I'll see if I can snag a photo of it for you. One thing I forgot to mention is that mine doesn’t have a stock firewall. I had to cut it away and replace it with a recessed piece to fit the engine. -

I wish I would have thought of the '37 chassis when I built this model. I've been wanting to update for a while. I'm thinking that I can just do a simple chassis, drivetrain, wheel / tire swap and have an instant update. It currently has the '36 chassis that I removed all of the molded in detail from. I'm going to have to do some checking. My only concern is the wheelbase. There may be a bit of difference with the scales being different. But, it shouldn't be much at all. -
AMT 1960 3-in-1 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck
Plowboy replied to rekcirb13's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Another pitch for this kit is that it's perfect for adding the Texaco decals to. If Round2 still has the license. It came with gas cans, tool box, tools, push bumper, flashing roof light and a few other bits. It'll make the perfect service truck IMO! IIRC, it came with Texaco decals originally. I know the Chevy had them. -
Need a car recommendation
Plowboy replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In my last years of working, I just bought beaters to drive to work. I never gave over $2500 for one. I would drive them until they were worn out, sell them and buy another. A couple that I bought, I sold them for more than I gave for them and one I sold for the same that I gave for it. So, I was almost driving for free except for gas. I drove over 80 miles one way every day. So, I racked up mileage quick. It didn't make sense to me to wear out a nice vehicle when beaters are so plentiful and cheap. Might be something for you to consider given your driving conditions. My favorite beater was an old Jeep XJ 2 door. Dependable 4.0 six cylinder and 21 mpg.
