That's wicked! A cool thing about curbsides is they allow you to cram big wheels/tires under them without the hassle of engineering the chassis.

Nice looking Ventura! This is one model that you rarely see built. I like the subtle color you chose! Nice work!

'62 Ford Galaxie 500 Update! 12/23/22 Finally Done! Pic pg. 7

Yeah, it is a pain to work with. You literally can't cut it with an Xacto blade. I found that out last night when I went to shave the badges and trim. It wouldn't cut. It would chip away. -
Which tires will work best for this car?
Plowboy replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Unless you're building it as a factory stock, (which I don't think you are), 15" wheels will work fine. From what you're describing that you want, I'd get the F-60 for the front and the L-60 for the rear. -
Those are all deep.

Very nice! The paint on this thing is killer! Also like the hood and rear spoiler you went with.

Thanx Mike! I wanted to do it full detail. But, it would've taken so much work and re-engineering to do it. Especially in the front. This was more of a test run. If I ever attempt another build like this, I'll make it a wide body.

Thanx Dave! I wasn't sure about the red on the wheels until I stuck them together.

I'm disappointed in you Luke! LOL! It's your favorite color Tamiya TS -14 Black.

I'm not going to add a B pillar. I am going to shave the scripts, badges and side trim down. Don't know about the wheel opening and rocker trim yet. -

I know it's a promo. I thought by '62 they were making both from styrene. -
If he's a fellow forum user, can't you just ask him?

Those kits come with Firestones.

You can sharpen them. I use a file to sharpen mine. I've had the same pair since '00.

I do the same thing. That's how I found all of the different interiors. I'm going to stick with the '60 interior. Cutting up an old interior and making it look decent is a lot of work. Especially when the door panels are molded to the seat. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. I like how this sedan is trimmed. Thinking this is what I'll do with the body. -

Thanx for the feedback guys! I've got quite a bit done to the old Galaxie. Been a lot of fitment work and I think I have my wheel and tire setup figured out. I may change to the Pegasus TT2'S. But, these are working for me at the moment. I want to hit 'em with a coat of Tamiya Satin Clear and see what they look like. If I don't like how they look, I'll paint 'em. I'd like to have it a little lower. But, I can live with it. I was dreading cutting that old interior apart and reworking it! Right away, I noticed that the dashes were very similar in shape and layout between the '60 and the '62. The only big difference is the instrument panel layout. While doing some research, I saw an XL that had similar door panel detail as the '60. The seat patterns are also similar. So, the decision was made to use the '60's interior. It didn't take a great deal of work to get it to fit. Just the dash and package tray needed to be modified. And this is where I'm at a crossroads with it. With the interior basically being an XL, I'm thinking I may change the trim on the body also. I definitely don't like the wide trim anyway! So, now I'm trying to decide on whether to just shave all of the trim and emblems off or just shave the wide trim and replace it with XL trim. I also haven't decided what engine to use. I like how the Starliner engine looks with either the three two barrels or the two fours. But, I kinda want a modern engine too. Like a quad cam Cobra engine. We'll see. -
Thanx Rusty! Yeah, they were just a rolling appliance. My wife had a '98 that she loved. It had the 3.0 DOHC (very similar engine) and for a family car, it would move! I could put some fear in a Mustang GT or Camaro for the first 150-200 feet! Her car was the reason I went with the flat red. I got an idea of what to do with the engine from this kit. So, the '62 may not get my full attention for a bit.

Well done Scott! I really like the weathering you did on it!

Just finished this one up. It's the old AMT kit from around the same year. I've had this idea rolling around for years. But, never got around to it. Needing a break from a detailed build, it was the perfect time to make my idea come to life. It's just a simple curbside build. I cut away the wheel wells to make room for the Aoshima Kranze wheels that were stripped, wheel lips narrowed and painted. Paint is Tamiya Metallic Red with a coat of Tamiya Flat Clear. Interior is Tamiya Satin Black. Thanx for checking it out!

What happened to the '68 Impala molds???
Plowboy replied to ranma's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That looks nice Mike! It's weird to see a convertible without the mechanism wells in the interior. Usually, it's the other way around. -

So, AMT made the '69 promos and MPC made the kits? -

Plowboy replied to ranma's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't think the '68 became the '69 either. Pretty much nothing in common body wise. Something that's confusing to me (maybe Mark can clear it up) is my '68 promo chassis has the separate exhaust/rearend and an engine/trans plate. My '69 promo chassis has everything molded in. Someone asked in my WIP thread if my '69 was an AMT or MPC. He stated one had the Chevrolet letters on the hood while the other one did not. I thought MPC had the promo contract with Chevrolet in '69. So, I assumed it's an MPC. Did AMT and MPC both make '69 Impala promos? Speaking of the bubble tops. They go back to the '65 Impala at least. Here's a great example built by Ron Savoi. -
I'll be watching this one! I built a phantom '58 Edsel wagon a little over a year ago.

I would've stuck a '63 top on that one! I'm still thinking about doing it to this one! I'm just concerned about getting the two bonded well. -

I should probably quit now. I'm pretty sure I've used used up all of my luck on this project. That or I got a small reward for what I went through getting the hood and trunk cut out. They were both extremely thick! Plus, it didn't help that this styrene is hard and brittle. But, I did catch some luck with the firewall as it needed very little work to fit. The radiator core support also fit. I'm going to modify it so that it will meet up to the fenders. I added a strip of .040 to the tail panel to give it a little more strength. This is what I have to work with on the underside of the hood and trunk. I've definitely scrapped the roof swap plan. This styrene is so hard and brittle that I don't think regular styrene would bond well to it.
