  1. I'm a Corvette model collector, and have always wanted to get one of these kits, but the prices have just been too high for me. But I happen to be on eBay looking, and found a kit in pretty good condition and at a really good price, so I grabbed it before it was gone. See the attached pics. The only thing the seller said was missing was the engine display case (no big deal to me), one side glass (figured I could modify a spare glass to fit) and the decals were bad (did plan on using them anyways). The body just needs to be dipped to remove some green paint. From the pics and his description, the rest of the kit is there (oh except the instructions, but I downloaded those). I saw that yours and Steve Milberry's kits don't have the engine, if you're interest when I get my kit I can check with a friend to see if he can cast it and how much it would be. You showed the pic you found online about the engine, and I found an interesting story about that, and why the Corvair engine ended up in the real car and the kit. You can read about it here (it's about halfway down the page): https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/1967-chevy-astro-i I look forward to seeing more progress on yours and Steve's builds. Steve A.
  2. I'm glad I could help out with such a great build you did. It was fun learning a few things when doing the stuff for this model, and some of the other projects you have planned. Can't wait to see what you come up with in the future. Steve A.
  3. A few years back I bought an XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro filament printer that included a 3D scanner and laser engraving attachments with it. I have not had a chance to try either of the attachments, and now the XYZprinting company has ceased operations, so hopefully I won't need any help with it when I can actually get it set back up and running. Due to a few moves in the last few years, I had to put it in storage because of no space to set it up right now. There are a few different scanners on the market, plus I've seen a couple of DIY instructions on building your own, but when I looked into sometime back the limitation I found with them in regards to using them for modeling was that anything smaller than about 1/2" the scanner had difficulties. Plus with any of the scanners you aren't really going to be able to just scan a part and have a file ready to print. There is usually a lot of work involved with cleaning up the scan to come out with a good usable file. And with most things the old phrase "you get what you paid for" really applies to scanners, the less costly scanners are not going to give you the best detail compared to the more expensive ones Steve A.
  4. Just for clarification, I'm pretty sure that Anycubic model you gave a link to is a 3D printer only, it isn't a 3D scanner. I have 2 Anycubic printers and their first gen wash & cure machine, and really like their stuff, but I don't believe Anycubic has a 3D scanner available at the moment. Steve A.
  5. Mark, It is nice seeing the work and improvements you've done on this old kit. I always liked the look of the original car, and have a couple of kits in my stash, so I'll have to save the improvements you've done for when I finally get around to building it. I went online to see if anyone happen to have a 3D file of those Champ 500 wheels, and was surprised that there wasn't much out there considering how popular they were when they came out. Maybe some one will come out with a nice 3D file sometime soon. I know there is some nice BF Goodrich tire files out there already. Anyways, I can't wait to see what else you do to this build. Steve A.
  6. I think it was mentioned in an early post on this thread, but if you look online it mentions the following "The Illusion is a coachbuilt custom by Rick Dore Kustoms. It features a hand-formed aluminum body by Luc De Ley of Marcel's Custom Metal". I was helping John with some 3D parts and decals for this build, so I did quite a bit of research on the car looking for info. Steve A.
  7. Looks like it will be an interesting build, good luck. I've wanted to get one of the Fujimi MkI kits to do a build of the Essex Wire car, but the prices on those kit are just too high. I keep hoping that Fujimi will reissue the MkI like they did the MkII kits. Can't wait to see more progress on this. Steve A.
  8. Good Luck at the Roadster Show, I'm guessing it will win an award for sure. Steve A.
  9. You might try checking out Burbank House of Hobbies website, they have several different makers of pinstriping tape shown. https://houseofhobbies.com/search?q=tape I've bought from them several times, and they have always been good at getting orders out quickly, and I've never had a problem. Steve A.
  10. I saw a couple of videos from the show on Youtube. They covered the show really well. This was one of the longest ones at about 50 minutes. Steve A.
  11. That turned out really nice. Steve A.
  12. I have that resin transkit somewhere in my stash. I was painting it & had the body on one of my paint stands and it pushed the body sides at the door out some. I'm hoping that when I do find it again, that I can warm it up and push the sides back in. Your build turned out really nice. Steve A.
  13. This project is coming along really nicely, and if you think this one is cool, wait till you see some of the other projects he has planned. Steve A.
  14. Glad to see the decals made it there okay. Can't wait to see how the finished model comes out. Steve A.
  15. Steven, I got to wondering if maybe the article you were looking for could have been in another magazine. I went looking to see if I could find info about the old Car Modeler magazine that Kalmbach bought out. I did find an image of the Nov 1991 issue that shows an article titled " '32 Chevy Roadster How To". Not sure what the article is about. Steve A.

  18. Hey Steven, I did a search in the first CD of SAE that covers the first 35 years from 1979-2013, and did a search using "Packard" "Boattail" and "1932 Chevy". There were a few mentions of Packards in the Collectors Corner (which was for 1/43rd scale). There was one article when I did the 1932 Chevy search that was titled "Shark Bite" about combining a 1932 Chevy and an early 60s Corvette. It was a light and darker blue color. Attached is a pic of the car from the article. Not sure if this was the model you were thinking of. The second CD covers the years from 2014-2018. and I couldn't find an article like you were describing in any of the issues.
  19. I have both the CDs that they did of the SA issues. What article were you looking for? I can find it and save it as a PDF and email it to you. Steve A.
  20. Hey Rich, If you happen to make it to the show, my friend Curt Raitz & I will have a table in the swap meet area, so stop by and say Hi. Curt will be selling his hand laced wire wheels & some kits, and I will be selling some of my custom decals, some 3D stuff and possibly some kits. Hope you will be able to make it to the show. Steve A.
  21. The Desert Scale Classic Show is on Saturday April 13th. It is a fun show. I'm in Northern AZ, so I don't know about the hobby shops in that area. Steve A.

Brock, If you are just needing the green decals shown in your pics, I have them if you still need them. If you want to PM me your address I can mail them off to you. Steve A
  23. If you saw John's post awhile back of the Radial Motorcycle build he did with Curt Raitz, I 3D printed the radial engines & some small parts for them, and John did a great job with those parts. You can see details of both their bikes here: Plus, John has used a couple of 3D printed bodies on some of his builds. I don't think it makes much of a difference to John if he is working in plastic or resin. Steve A.
  24. No, I purchase a file of a 1/10th scale Chevy LS3 and a 4L60 automatic transmission for John, and scaled them to the sizes he needed and resin printed them. I have an Anycubic Photon Mono X6Ks printer. Steve A.
  25. Greg has a Facebook group called Holy Grail Resin Model Parts that is is active with pretty much every day. If you have FB you might have try joining the group and post a message. I know he has been building a pretty good size shop at his house, so he has been busy with that. I think I had an old email address for him, but you might get a faster response through his FB group.
