  1. Gus, It's finished except for the decals and future to seal them. (testors decals tend to peel up on their edges with age if you don't seal them down with future). I don't want to post anymore pictures until it is completely finished. Thanks for your interest in the project.
  2. It is never good to base your model on a restoration car. They are hardly ever correct. Get some reference pictures of the real car.
  3. Now everything is done except for the back glass straps, decals and future. I just need to find the time to get it done. After further inspection the lug nuts appear to be black so I won't paint them.
  4. I have everything done except for the BMF , decals and future. I think i figured out how to put a tiny stripe of bmf below the body side molding that goes along the fender door and quarter panel that I have already bmf'd. Its a parallel stripe the length of the molding.
  5. Another Awesome one, O.C.
  6. And headlight covers.
  7. No more wip pics. The next pics will be of the finished model. I got it assembled yesterday. All I lack is installing the tires , the fuel filler, the hood pins,Bare metal foil, back glass straps, decals, and future to seal the decals.
  8. Finally got the frame finished. All the subassemblies are finished so I can begin to assemble the model.
  9. Thanks guys. I really appreciate the comments.
  10. Have you ever noticed that the drivers name was never put on the Yunick Chevelles? Thanks for the link. I might just have to build a model of this car since all those reference pictures are available..

    Great looking build.
  12. Here's the real exhaust. Here is a Nichels exhaust from earlier in the season at the Atlanta 500.
  13. Got the tires finished except for touching up the lug nuts. Got started on the exhaust.
  14. Primed frame.
  15. The thing I dislike most about a Nascar build is if the kit comes with a molded in exhaust system on the frame, it has to be removed. That is the way this old Johan kit came. Below are the steps I took to remove the exhaust. First I got out the sprue cutter. Then I got out the #11 exacto. Then I got out the bigger exacto (don't know the number). The I got out the sanding stick with various sanding belts. Then I glued some styrene on the back of the holes caused by the removal of the mufflers. Then I puttied the voids where the mufflers were. I sanded the putty and primed the frame this afternoon. I will try to get pictures soon of the results.
  16. Here is what the mat looked like.
  17. Actually it was a thick white mat they layed down on the floor but I did not want to go to that much trouble. I'm sure you are right that it was an attempt to cut down on the heat..
  18. Yes, the floor is suppose to be white.
  19. I got the interior finished. Now on to the frame.
  20. I did some more on the interior today.
  21. Drew, I remember seeing this model posted in Scale Auto a while back. Awesome job on it. Sure miss reading your column there.
  22. Gus, I just sat the seat in there for grins. According to my reference pictures the seats in the kit look nothing like the seat in the real car. I might have to scratchbuild a seat and it will have an upper and lower bolster. The cage is scratchbuilt from 3/32 inch evergreen styrene tubing.
  23. The roll cage is finished except for paint and cartograph tape. The tub on this car was much easier than most old 60's kits because I did not have to remove the molded in rear seats that most kits have. I just had to remove the door and quarter panel trim.
  24. Tim, This car represents Foyt's first Nascar win. That's why I wanted to build this model. Thanks for the reply. .
  25. Finally finished the engine.
