Retiring from moderation
FASTBACK340 replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Being a moderator is more work than fun.... I know what it's like to get criticized for being too hard/soft on issues and why you did/didn't do something. Then people take it out on you personally. I did the same on a different forum. I returned to being a member and I enjoyed the forum much more. Build on Rommel....build on. -
Bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn Dead at 70

Rest in peace my Bass Brother..... -
As already mentioned, the Revell `32 kits fenders are almost a drop-in swap. I've seen it done by several different builders and it looks pretty darn good.

Been a technician for Inifiniti since they started in this country in '90.... and I'm a Mopar guy. Sorry for putting my two cents in. Carry on ..... -
Nice build... The parking lot is almost as nice as the model! Now I know what a finished one looks like. and mine IS a pre-painted kit and I can't finish it....

The recession hasn't hit everyone

It's funny how everyone latched onto this and tore it apart.... That $600K Juke is being assembled by an OUTSIDE shop, NOT Nissan. There's a few custom coach builders out there in Germany & Switzerland building 6-figure one-off's. This is just another. And I bet somewhere in the middle East there's a Sheik that just ordered one, whom are the usual target buyers. BTW: The Infiniti M56 is no more a "performance" car as any other 4,000 lb. car w/only 400 HP and fuel-friendly gearing. Trust me.... -

The GT-R was supposed to be an Infiniti, but..... We're still waiting for our Infiniti über-car, but I'm not holding my breath. That just introduced the new JX, which is another state-side assembled turd based on the Murano mechanical bits for $50K. The Juke is being assemble by an outside shop, NOT by Nissan. -
I couldn't download the pictures either....

I've said it before and I'll say it again.... you have good sense of style and a great imagination. No other engine would look right after seeing this mock-up. Looking forward to future updates. -
This last picture brings me to a moment in my childhood when I learned the meaning of a new word. I was about 9-10 yrs. old and a friend was attempting to assemble a Ford J car. First hand I learned what the word "complicated" meant. IIRC.... he poured all the glue in a tube onto the contents of the box and lit it up behind a truck depot.....

I spoke with Norm at NNL East and he mentioned he was so busy, he couldn't even sell at that show. Imagine being that backed up to pass on vending at one of the largest shows in the country? Instead he attended as a spectator and had a great time. Good for him! Never second guess Norm's work. It's usually better than imagined.

I had built a `67 a while ago. I agree, nice kit. Just shake the box and it falls together....

That's a sweeeeeet build! Nice job! The only omission I see is detail painting the fender & tail light housing body gaskets. Very tough to pull off cleanly, and I doubt I would have done it either, but it would have put this right up there with real or model territory. I love it!

Geeez... I just realized by these posts how much I appear to dis-like Hybrids and will rally against them... Sorry! But I do enjoy stopping at a red light in the Barracuda idling next to a Prius. I love the look of total disgust on the drivers face, and all the thumbs-up I get. This was on the back of my old beater `74 Dart

In all honesty, EVERYTHING Hybrid is labeled and in a BRIGHT ORANGE harness sheathing that's well protected, similar to the bright yellow used to identify Air Bag/Safety Restraint harnesses today. But there's always that one person who can bend a crow bar in a sandbox.... I know we need alternative energy, but don't twist the very virtues your exploiting by neglecting to address the toxicity of the Ore and the in-efficient transporting of that Ore to produce it in a less than eco-friendly environment. Face it: Hybrids are a stop-gap answer to a much bigger one. Provided the oil companies allow it, but now were entering politics... Sorry, I'll stop.

That with a stretched wheelbase would make a neat flatbed hauler too. Great variation on an old friend! -

Wow, nice find! The mini sets look very useful, and reasonably priced. Thanks for posting! -
BTW: Throught my job as a technician for Infiniti I've been to Hybrid training for both the Altima and M56H and we spent half of the first day ( of a two day class.....) with each car being repeatly told how this system will KILL YOU if you do not follow the proper discharging procedure and voltage discharge verification before touching anything. Nice to know thank you very much...... BTW: Nissan uses Toyota's technology for their Hybrids...... I forgot to add all the safety gear I'm required to wear and stand on while servicing anything to do with the Hybrid system. Gloves.... Goggles.....insulating work mats to stand on..... in school they want us to ROPE OFF our work bays with safety tape like a crime scene. I wish my scanner was working. I'd love to share some of the workbook warnings they sent me home with.

Not that logic should be thrown into hype, but the one little detail the media leaves out is how these batteries are mined and made. The poster-child for the anti- car, the Toyota Prius, has the ore for its batteries mined in the tundra of Canada leaving behind a several mile radius of acid rain that allows limited growth of any ground cover. But that's OK, it's in Canada's backyard. No country clubs or high-end vacation spots nearby. Then it's trucked out of the Tundra and shipped the china, world renowned for its safe work environment and strict factory toxic output control. Then those batteries are sent to Japan, where are bolted into cars sold to people whom want to appear to be "doing something socially responsible" for the environment. Plus all the safety and disposal facts already posted as far as accidents and landfills are concerned. Wow...... Huh?

I'd love to know what they're saying. I bet if it was translated..... "Hi my name is Enrico. I owe the Mob money and I have a terminal disease. Therefor I'm the ideal candidate to test drive this since I'm a dead man anyway......" -
Where does your nostalgia lie?
FASTBACK340 replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My nostalgia is being a teenager in the 70's. First car in 76 was a 64 Polara 2dr. hardtop. Did it up with Hush-Thrust mufflers, chrome reverse w/ baby moons and N60's out back with the Gabriel Hi-Jackers pumped to the max.... and a Craig FM converter wired into the original thumb wheel AM radio. I was fortunate to catch the tail-end of the notorious street racing scene in the NYC area at the time. Fountain ave.... Cross Bay Blvd..... and of course, Connecting Highway. Musically, my memories are of BTO, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Foghat, Heart, and Fleetwood Mac. I had been playing bass in local bar bands for a few years and thought I was da man..... And between owning a Street Machine and being in a band I had a few lady friends to while away many a late evening. And early morning...... Great post
