"Down onto it" is the exactly how I should have described it. I really do think the potential for runs and orange peel is greater when spraying vertically.

Wow, what a cool website for race cars!!!? -
Well you sure nailed that one John , but I agree about the painting.
-
Yep, looking good Bruce. Those were such nice cars back in the day, But then all '66 "A" body cars were cool (I had a '66 SS Chevelle). ?

Got her clear-coated (but not polished out yet). Rustoleum Crystal Clear Acrylic Enamel. First model I've ever cleared. A bit golder in the pictures then the way it really looks.

I do have another curiosity question tho for y'all. Do you think when spraying, airbrush and/or rattle can, that you get more orange peel it you spray a vertical surface (sideways on side of car)) or flat surface ( down onto roof, hood). I hope you understand my question.

Thanks Dave, to me it just seemed a bit thin and I actually had a small bit of sag on one side on the first coat but it kinda smoothed out and after the additional coats it's barely noticible if at all. As for the color, maybe just a slight bit golder than the real color (tho I've read that people painting a 1:1 car in Satin Gold have seen shade differences). And yes, I'm not gonna sand, just fine grit polishing compound and polish. I use higher grade auto products that I use on our real cars. Anyway, thanks again Dave and others that have helped me here to get to this point.

That is one great looking Gasser Marty. Well done? -
Those Willys' were great looking race cars. Beautiful paint John. Concerning heating the paint before spraying, I'm certainly no expert and have done it as well but the last time I may have heated it too much because it had lots or orange peel and runny.

Great job Craig. Probably my favorite "real" Camaro.

Good advice Tom. As for drilling the holes in the body before painting, makes sense, unfortunately for me in this case, I already painted the body (and cleared it). I actually have a digital caliper, didn't even think to use it? -

This gold 959 is 1 of 7 an Arab family bought for their Sheik son to add to his collection. May not qualify an an Outlaw/Hot rod here but pretty interesting none the less. -

Thanks for the replies. Here's a picture of my first pinning job. As I stated earlier, I used a pin vise with tiny drill bit. I don't know what size the bit was because the little rascals are all loose in the case. I glued the tiny piece of wire (no clu e what gage) with Superglue in the drilled hole in the mirrors. So next will be the holes in the body. -
Well I finally did it. Below is the Createx painted body sprayed with Rustoleum Crystal Clear. Not the greatest pictures but I think you can tell the gloss. I will say it sprays pretty liquidy so when spraying it I wouldn't get too aggressive wit h the coats. This is 4 coats. It went on really smooth. By the way, this is the first time I have ever applied clear on any model I've built. Pictures are with no polishing.

Installing Outside Side Mirrors

Well I tried the pin thing and actually successfully drilled holes in the mirror base with my pin vise and used small wire for the pins. So I guess my apprehensions weren't needed. Of course, I do still have to drill holes in the body in the right spots and glue them on. -
I paint in the garage. Really never considered doing it in the house. I'd be afraid of spray dust and of course when using other than acrylics the fumes. I do have a small paint booth but really no way to vent it outside.

Thanks David, I still don't know how its possible to drill a hole on such a small piece of plastic. The base is tiny. -
I searched and looked at several pages of threads and didn't see any helpful info on installing the mirrors. I know I saw somewhere a tutorial on using pins but I can't find it so I'm asking the "experts" for some help here. I have up to this point always just "free-handed" gluing those little devils and of course invariably get some kind of glue blemish on the body. For the life of me I don't know how you can drill a hole in the tiny base of the mirror to glue a pin. So I asking for any info on this. I'm pretty sure others would be interested in this post.

I'm gonna give it a test run hopefully today. I have to do some painting today because temps here in middle Tennessee won't allow it next week.
