What did you see on the road today?
Steve H replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ok… so these weren’t seen today. Actually it was back on October 4th, at the Fairmont in Monte Carlo, along with a couple in front of the casino. There was 2 separate car events that passed thru. The Bumblebee 1000 was a charity event for kids, most of the cars had a youngster riding along with the owner. The “Road to Monte Carlo” group, as I understand it, is a group of wealthy super car guys that meet annually at a Ferrari dealership in Italy and finish in Monte Carlo. Have a close look at the 3rd pic, couple of bucks worth of cars. I estimate there was probably about $20-30,000,000 at the hotel. The underground had a bunch too. I’m not that knowledgeable when it comes to super cars, but there was some very, very nice cars, and lots of them. They all sounded fantastic, especially in “track mode” which seemed to be the popular option while idling. The blue McLaren sounded down right nasty. And of course I couldn’t leave this one out… -
Western Star 4900 FA plow truck
Steve H replied to BK9300's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hi Brian, I see the magic continues! I can’t believe how much detail you are putting on this truck, it’s mind boggling. Very, very impressive. Things like the boot brush… love it!! Those kind of details make me smile. I need to go back a few pages to get further up to date, but your progress is impressive. I will be interested in the results of your chrome test. I am going to be “chroming” some parts on my Beaumont build with Revell spray. Hoping I can learn a thing or 2 from your experience. Keep up the truly amazing work. Cheers, Steve -

Hi Anton, this turned out wicked! I really enjoyed our build thread. The amount of work and detail that went into this is fantastic. Awesome to see it complete my friend. As you know this is totally my style of build, love it.

Hi Phil. Yes, the printed parts are quite nice. I gotta say, it’s REALLY cool to finally see a 1:25 scale Beaumont on my desk! Hi Johnathan, I will share a few more of my car as the build progresses, so please stick around. Hello Brian! Thanks for welcoming me back, I’m glad to be back. I will get caught up on your spectacular plow truck build in the coming days. Nice to hear from you. Hi Elliot, yes, it is the AMT kit for this build. The Chevelle build used the Revell body, and the AMT taillight panel. You were paying attention!! Hi David, I suppose I’m biased, but I always liked the Beaumont trim. Hi Steve, I was hoping I’d hear from you. I will probably mention this again in the build thread at some point, but I will say it here now. If I’m not mistaken, you did some conversion parts for 69(?) Beaumonts? I think you should get at least some credit for bringing attention to Beaumonts in the modelling community. I also think David “the Beaumont guru” deserves some credit. Now we have access to 3d printed parts. So thank you. As for the fit of the grill, I actually haven’t even tried to see how the hood fits YET. The parts are designed for the AMT body, although I wish they were for the Revell. I did try the grill on the Revell body, it will take a little bit of surgery to fit, but I’ll be doing that for the pro touring build, and eventually for replicating my car. Those builds will be a bit more involved than this one. Yes I know the AMT body has shortcomings, and is not nearly as accurate as the Revell, but for this build, I’m going to live with it. As for the Pontiac thing, you are absolutely correct. The grill, and trunk emblem are Pontiac-esque, but alas, no reference to Pontiac. I know “the man behind the keyboard” is a smart car guy! Cheers, Steve

Hi Misha, thanks for checking in. It is good to be back at the hobby desk. I am motivated to keep at this one. Thank you Nigel, I have missed my forum friends. It’s good to be back. I don’t get out in my car enough, but I still love it. Thanks for having look. Hi Greg! One of the things I’ll need to catch up on is your tips and tricks. Always great stuff! Thanks Dennis!

Hello fellow model car makers! It has been a very long hiatus, for various reasons. Spring and summer are always busy for me outside, so not usually much desk time. This year was extra busy, with the main project being a remodel of our home, followed by a wonderful Mediterranean trip. I have a bunch of catching up to do, and will do my best to check in with other’s builds here over the next couple of weeks. My next build is near and dear to my heart. I own a 1:1 67 Pontiac Beaumont, bought it back in ‘96. I have wanted to build a Beaumont model for at least the last 20 years. If you know my builds, you know I like pro street, and pro touring cars, ohhh… and yes, I like em low! I have plans for at least 4 Beaumont builds, this one, a pro touring build, a phantom El Camino, and a replica of my car. I have been doing some of the “rough” work over the last couple of weeks, and finally feel ready to start a WIP. I have the stance pretty much set, and reasonable plan to move forward with. I decided to use the AMT kit for this particular project, yes, the Revell body is much better. I’ll explain why later. This will be very similar to my 67 Chevelle PS, but probably not quite as detailed. I will give more information with my next post, and eventually show how I got to where I am now. This is my 1:1 Beaumont… My pro street 67 Chevelle, yes it’s the same GM (medium Garnett red) colour of my real car. Here is my quick mock up. Stance is set, the grill and rear facia are from Canuck 3d. As mentioned, I will share more information once I get going, and show how I got where I am. LOTS of clean up, and fettling to do yet. Thanks for having a look, and as always all questions and comments are welcome. Cheers, Steve

Hi Keith! Thanks for having a look sir. Plowboy inspired me to “step up my game” I miss him on the forum. I’ve got a LOT of catching up to do on here. Hope you have been well. Losing Otis was extremely difficult, as any pet owner would know. What I didn’t realize at the time, was how difficult not having him at my side in the hobby room was going to be…. Life goes on, but we miss him dearly still.

‘Hello Anton! Sorry for the VERY late reply here. I miss my little buddy, it’s been hard to get back to the hobby desk for a bunch of reasons, but not having Otis at my side is one of the biggest ones. I am finally ready to get back at it, I think you’ll enjoy my next build. Really appreciate your kind words, Otis’s memory lives on. Hi Craig, and thank you. This was a very rewarding build for me. I hope you had minute to look through the build thread. so many of us here were inspired by Roger, he truly was a fantastic builder, and by all accounts, an even better person. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Cheers, Steve

Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!
Steve H replied to Belairconvertable's topic in WIP: Model Cars
After a loooooooonggggggg hiatus, finally back at my hobby desk. Lots of great mock ups here folks. WIP thread coming soon, 67 Beaumont PS Cheers, Steve -
I have been off the board for a while (too long), and am trying to get caught up. I am fortunate to call Victoria BC home. The Duece Days car show that rolls into town every three years is absolutely amazing. The whole town transforms into a car guys heaven. Not only world class hot rods everywhere, but all the local guys are out in force with their muscle cars and classics, it’s quite magical. It was awesome to have Allan Barton join us this year all the way from Perth Australia! Allan, us island guys really enjoyed meeting you. Your enthusiasm, and great stories were a real treat mate. Dan L, I probably saw you and maybe even chatted with you, sorry we didn’t meet “formally”, maybe in 2028?! A few of my photos from the show… To say the show is well attended would be a serious understatement.. And a few shots of the models… If you’re a car guy, or gal, you should plan on attending this event, it is truly spectacular.

Hello Russell, Another great looking build. Excellent colour choice, nice wheel/tire combo, and great stance. As Dan said above, Duece Days is indeed a world class event. Cheers, Steve

G’day Allan! It was awesome to meet you in person, glad your account has been restored.

Excellent to see this on the forum Misha! I have been lucky enough to see this in person, fantastic build. Glad to hear your back at the bench Misha, I’ve had a long absence as well, and just getting back at it. Hope to see you soon. Cheers, Steve
