Here's my contribution to the 2020 builds list.
Steve H replied to Dragonhawk1066's topic in Model Cars
Hi Craig, all are very nicely done, my favourite would be the dark blue 70 1/2 Camaro. I plan on doing a similar build this year. Steve -
Hi Bob, 9 really nice builds, and as Phil said very different and entertaining. However, that Buick wagon... oh man! I want one of those. That really speaks to me, beautiful build and perfect colour. Cheers, Steve

Jim, you make it look sooooo easy. That wood grain ridiculous, and I mean incredibly amazing ridiculous! Wow. The whole truck is looking awesome, I really enjoy following your builds. Educational, informative, interesting, and always fun! Great stuff as always. Cheers, Steve -
Chevy Pickup 41 - Revell
Steve H replied to Zoltan's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Hi Zoltan, I love these trucks, I built one a few years ago. In my opinion, one of the nicest front grills of any car or truck ever. Look forward to seeing this come together. Steve -
Thank you Allen, always appreciate your comments. Thank you Dave. Hello Anton, that is one of my most detailed motors, I have done a handful more since then that are similar, but I don’t always do the full wire and plumbing. Hi Mike, Thanks for the compliment sir. This was inspired by a pro street Mercedes from the “Tubs” issue of SAE waayyyyyy back, issue #75 if I recall. I thought the same thing when I saw that build, super cool. It’s fun to do something different once in a while... Hello Larry !! Always nice to hear from you, I appreciate your feedback. Cheers, Steve

Hi Nigel! Thank you sir. I can’t remember how much modification was needed on the chassis, but I don’t recall it being too dramatic. I look forward to seeing that build when you get to it. All the best for 2021 Cheers, Steve

Hi Phil! Eleven beauties sir. All are very nicely done but, ironically, as a GM guy I particularly like the 64 Ford.

Hi all, I was inspired by the thread in the “general automotive” section of this forum. Kurt W. has a thread about sacrilege and blasphemy to Mercedes Benz cars that might offend purists. Here’s mine! This is a about a 10-12 year old build. I started with the Tamiya Mercedes 500sl kit. The chassis is a modified Monogram pro stock Camaro piece. The motor is the 492 Ford from the Tbird pro stock kits. The Mercedes interior was modified to fit the chassis, motor is wired and plumbed, posable steering. Wheels and tires from the Hays Tbird kit, parts box blower and manifold. Sorry, don’t remember all the details of the build. I do remember that I test fit for the entire build, and somehow in final assembly the front end is about 2 scale inches higher than I wanted. I think it’s a front windshield issue, but I left it alone... Hope you enjoy it Cheers, Steve I wish I polished my paint jobs back then....

Hello Les! You UK lot are all the same!!... “Eye it’s a fine wee build that” My parents are both Glaswegians, so insert the Scottish accent. Glad you like the pop, it was a fun build that I was pleased with final look. Happy new year! Cheers, Steve

Bella's 34 Ford P/U
Steve H replied to speedy5963's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Hi Paul, just seeing this thread for the first time. Almost brought a tear to my eye. Watching what you and your daughter have done is really awesome, even touching. I have a stepdaughter that has been in my life since she was 2, she’s almost 20 now. When she was young, she would come down to my hobby room to watch me build cars. She had a chair, I quickly built her a “craft” desk right beside my hobby desk. We spent many hours together down there, some of my fondest memories. We did build a snap kit together, but she never took to the hobby, she does however love hot rods and old cars. So she has a bit of gear head in her, which I love. She will often come into the hobby room and ask what I’m working on. Love Bella’s truck, so cool that she has taken to the hobby! Cheers, Steve -
Francis my friend, nice to hear from you. Yes, it is indeed fun and rewarding to push the boundaries. The challenge with this one is trying to make the body look like a factory “Oldmino”. Obviously the pro touring treatment isn’t factory, but I want to retain a factory looking body, not “custom”. Thank you as always for your kind words and support. You my friend, are a true “master modeller” , I admire your craftsmanship, and your amazing humbleness, as you create incredible works of art. All the best for 2021, I hope you and your family have a wonderful new year. Cheers, Steve

Hi Marcos, what a diverse and stunning fleet ! I love ‘em all, but particularly the Chevelle and the Schwinn, I need one of those bike kits. Beautiful paint on every one of them. Cheers, Steve

Hi Sam, thanks for having a look. I must admit, I have really enjoyed and appreciated the input, and especially the photoshops that guys have shared on this. My vision from the beginning was to incorporate an El Camino into the beautiful Olds body. The two photoshop versions look fantastic, and I love that guys are taking the time to do that. I did however decide last night to retain the lines as is. Might not be everyone’s taste, but I’m pleased with it. Cheers, Steve

Hi Andy, Those wagons are awesome! That was one of the ideas I had for this car a while back, still might tackle that one day. Thank you for your input, it definitely needs to look like an Oldsmobile. I did initially consider grafting on the front clip, but it just wouldn’t have looked right. Cheers, Steve
-
Hi Rusty, man I need to learn how to photoshop, you guys are full of great ideas. This looks great, my concern with this option is losing the Oldsmobile lines. It does however capture the classic El Camino lines, so I see where you were going with this. Thank you for the idea, much appreciated! Cheers, Steve

Hi Ron, I’m always open to opinions. The first photoshop was from Christopher, want to make sure he gets credit for that. I really like both photoshops, but .... I also really want to keep the Olds lines because I think it has great lines. If I do massage the B pillar area it would be similar to Christopher’s, but it will likely stay as is, I quite like it now that it’s in mock up. Thanks for having a look! Cheers, Steve

Hi Russell !! That is a beautiful build sir. Love the colour, you always have great/different colours on your builds. I may be bias, but I really like the treatment on the wheels, looks fantastic! Hope we can get together soon. All the best for 2021. Cheers, Steve -
Paul, holy shizza!! 30! Not just 30, but 30 really nice builds, very impressive sir. I wouldn’t even dream of that many in a year, even if they were snappers. Cheers, Steve

Hi Doug, wow! What an interesting group you have there. All beautifully built and detailed. Very nicely done! Cheers, Steve

Hi all, Had a bit of desk time the last couple of days, so a bit of progress to report. My builds are almost always low, so started working on chassis fit etc. The inner rear fenders needed to be wider to fit the wheel/tire choice. So I cut them, and added about 2 1/2 scale inches. There was a fair bit of sanding and fiddling to get the bed fit to the body. Still some fine tuning to do, but it’s getting close. Still another round of fill/sand/ prime on the inner rear fenders, but again, close.... I have a plan for the tailgate too, more on that in a later post. Also began mocking up body, chassis, interior. The plan is to use the ‘68 Elky chassis and floor pan, but mate it with the Olds door panels, dash, and inner front fenders. I will say now, that this is one of the more difficult kit bashes I have done. Trying to blend the two is a good challenge for me. This is also my most ambitious bodywork project, always good to push comfort level... What I can tell you is that I have used a LOT of masking tape in the last few days mocking this thing up. I still have a fair bit of work to do on interior fitment, but there is a plan! To get the low stance, as always there is a fair bit of planning there too, including channeling the body over the frame. I removed the inner front fenders, and cut about 2 scale inches out of them. They are just taped in place here, awaiting further test fits. Finally, I have chosen the wheels, a 19”/23” combo from Pegasus. The photo shows about what the final ride height will be if all goes as planned.. . It might just be me, but it seems like the back looks a bit more balanced with the tires in place and the low stance? I really like the swoopy lines of the body, and as of now, pretty sure the body stays as is. Let me know what you think. Cheers, Steve

Thank you Oliver, always nice to hear from you. The Gremlin was just a fun, between detail builds project, but it turned out ok. I like those builds to try new ideas. Cheers, Steve
