Had a bit more desk time, nothing earth shattering in the visual progress. However, I was able to do a full trial run on the order of final assembly. I believe that my plan will work, and if all goes well it will just slide together.... let’s hope all goes well. A bunch more sanding, cutting, grinding. I now have the inner front fenders fitting, track width of the Pegasus wheels/tires done, firewall cut to size, and I believe the ride height is set. I am planning on keeping the motor under the cowl hood, during mock up the motor would not allow hood to close... not even close. So, cut down the motor mounts, shaved some meat out of the front cross member, to allow motor to sit lower. Then cut the underside if the hood out to the edge of the cowl hood scoop. Looks like it will work now, although I still need to finish motor to double check, as the carbs are quite substantial. Most of the “heavy lifting” is now down, so time to get going on paint and assembly! As always, thanks for looking, input and comments always welcome. Cheers, Steve

Hello Francis! I know the tune well, takes me back a few years. There is a fairly large area behind the seats, it needed something, why not a couple of sub woofers... I think once everything is flocked, it will just blend in. Nice to hear from you, I haven’t checked your progress lately, I will do that tonight. Cheers, Steve

Hi Russell, another beautiful paint job sir. I’m no purist, that paint colour looks amazing! Shiny. I’m with the others, I was expecting tubs and a hood scoop! Cheers, Steve

Hi Roger, Really nice looking chassis, crisp! I need to get some of that Tamiya dull red, it looks fantastic on the interior, of course it has your magic touch as well... Hope that the next round of paint goes well sir. Cheers, Steve

Hi Chuck, excellent idea for this. Perfect stance. You piqued my interest when you said pro street chassis under that body... I will keep a watchful eye for that build! Steve

BRBO 2021 Kenworth Aerodyne Cabover
Steve H replied to doorsovdoon's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hi Garett!! What the heck are you doing waaaaayyyyy over here in the big rig section? Just stumbled upon this thread. Awesome work as always sir, I bought two rigs last year and you may have inspired me to be brave and dive into one. Everything looks fantastic, very clean build, and that was a very brave move doing a chassis chop after assembly.... cheeky really. Regarding the old decals, I have read that applying clear decal bonder over them helps. I have not tried this myself yet, so maybe a search would turn up more info. Look forward to seeing you finish this up! Cheers, Steve -
Hi guys, well, it’s been a busy couple of weeks with very little desk time. There has been a little bit of progress, although a lot of the “progress” was in planning. I had to spend a fair bit of time figuring out how final assembly was going to go. I want to have the box molded to the body, which complicates how the interior/chassis fit to body. I think I have it figured out, interior door panels and dash will need to be assembled to the body, not the chassis pan, then everything should slide together.... I THINK.... I will do a final test fit once I have the chassis a bit further along. I have decided on a motor. The 68 Elky 396 block and heads, intake manifold and Weber carbs from the Accurate Miniatures 64 Corvette. I love the look of this motor. The carbs still need to be cleaned up, I will use aluminum intakes for the carbs. I spent about 2 hours digging thru my stash to try and find some headers, but nothing that would fit, so I am settling on the kit exhaust manifolds. Found a teal colour that I like, after some test spoons, I decided to use black as a base coat. It’s not quite as dark as it looks in the photo. Seats now have the leather decals added, console is almost complete with carbon fibre decals, just waiting for my photo etch Hurst shifter to arrive so I can finish it. The dash is now complete, just need to add the column and wheel. I used pins for the turn signal and “tilt” wheel lever. The sub woofer is a modified unit from a die cast which will get flocked along with the carpet. I also modified an old floor console to be an overhead console, complete with a courtesy light. So.... not a lot of progress, but a bit more than what it looks like in the photo. Thanks for looking!

The only improvement would be Burt in his cowboy hat in the driver’s seat, and Sally in the passenger seat! Great build, and as the others have said, paint is killer, wheels and stance perfect. Well done! Steve

Hi Jonathan, very nice build sir! I’m generally a GM guy, but I really like the style of this car. Will have to buy/build one sometime.... Just what I need, another kit in the stash... Steve

This is a fantastic build, I love it. I really liked these cars back in the day. The V6 is sweet! Thanks for sharing. Steve

Your latest inspirational picture looks killer too! Those things are bada$$. Nice to see this thread pop up again. I think your idea to go wider with the body sounds good, also will provide more room for the wide rubber. cheers, Steve

Jim! Can’t wait to see this truck on its way to “church”. Very nice first spin on the lathe sir. I need to check out the sign vinyl, thanks for always sharing. Cheers, Steve -
Hi Kurt, thanks for having a look. Usually I’m pretty thorough with the test fitting, something slipped through the cracks on this one, but still happy with it overall. 700SL sounds about right!! Keep up the fantastic work on your Subaru! Cheers, Steve
