  1. I want to thank everyone for their help on this topic. I finally got the courage top tackle the body stripes on the gsx. They turned out awesome. Not sure if I can do anything to improve the hood stripes that have the ghosted edges, but at least I learned.
  2. Great information guys, thank you. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the really high nose look. Even level looks a bit off to me, bit function over form when it comes to racing. It's really interesting to learn the history of weight transfer, tires and camera tricks.
  3. Why is the front end so high on gassers? From the info I can find, it has to do with weight transfer on takeoff. I guess that makes me wonder why the front high stance went away and we don't see that anymore. Are cars better balanced weight wise today that they don't have to lift the front ends? Thanks.
  4. Thanks espo, these are 20ish year old decals. I can definitely see brownish adhesive around the decal on the sheet when I soak the decals in water. I will try wiping all of that away before I place the decal. I do keep cotton swabs, a brand new x-acto blade, toothpicks and paper towels handy when decaling.
  5. Thanks guys. I was thinking the satin finish had something to do with the visible edges. I'll try the glue idea for the center caps and start trimming the decal edges closer. I'll have to find some solv a set and give that a go.
  6. I am to the point of applying decals on the Revell/monogram 1970 buick gsx. I started with the small center caps on the wheels. For the life of me, I could not get them to settle into the cap or get the edges to lay down. The next day I tried to trim the edges with a brand new x-acto blade and the decals fell of the caps, like they weren't even stuck at all. I also applied the stripes to the hood, and there is terrible hazing in the clear edges. The hazing is much more noticeable on the satin black center of the hood than the yellow sides. If I wet the decal with a swab, the hazing clears up, but reappears when dry. I am not using any setting solution or solvent, as the instructions say the decals are not compatible. I am using warm water and wetting the area that the decal is applied. I apply the decal with wet fingers, then use cotton swabs to dab the water away while positioning the decal. Any helpful hints to make the hazing disappear and the decals adhere better? Next up are the large stripes, and I don't want to mess them up. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi all, Working slowly but surely on the revell 65 stepside. I am having a heck of a time trying to get the interior tub to fit all the way up into the cab. I have done some trimming on the windshield and dash, but I am still a touch short. I will try trimming some more, but thought I would post on here to see if anyone else had this issue. Any other spots I should be looking? Thanks.
  8. Those tires are tucked RIGHT up into those fenders.
  9. NOBLNG, that's pretty much what I am doing. I have to wipe the tip of the pen I use off every letter. Too much ink builds up on it and then flows into the letters. I got in a hurry and messed up as couple letters. Thanks for the tip. It also helps when the letters are nice and raised. The lettering on some older AMT tires fought me hard, there wasn't much height on the letters to work with and I ended up with lots of white on the sidewall. Those tires went on with no lettering.
  10. Tried doing the raised white lettering on some Goodyears for the 70 GSX I am building. I turned the first one into a solid white letter tire. Wipe it off and try again tonight. This is round 3 of trying to get those letters good.
  11. I would agree on the tail gate. Cool pics Oldcarfan.
  12. Saw this one on CL in western IL. 1973. Very interesting. I am assuming it is a conversion. The doors looks almost as big as the bed.
  13. Very cool old commercial. I would think the exhaust through the quarters would rust them out terribly.
  14. Here's our two "kids". BuckShot is a full blood mountain cur. Great for squirrel and raccoon chasing. He's ten now and finally starting to slow down a little bit. Dixie is our little girl. We got her at 7 months old. She turned 16 recently and honestly, she probably won't make it til summer. She's almost completely blind, totally deaf, and her kidneys are failing. The wife recently got one of those dog DNA tests to see what Dixie was, turns out 25% collie and a mess of other dogs.
  15. I got the chrome stripped off the wheels for the 65 Chevy truck and primed. Got the engine painted up and ready for installation into the chassis. I also resprayed my Buick GSX that had a few craze lines in the right fender. Hopefully that build will progress again.
  16. Thanks guys. I had a few cases left from when I quit building. I will look into the bigger display cases and start saving my pennies.
  17. Getting the body ready for priming on a 65 Chevy.
  18. I have a few models to put in plastic cases. How many of you guys use the little twist tie things to secure the model to the base?
  19. 3 at the top of my list Conan the Barbarian, the original Last of the Dog men Hell or High Water
  20. Nice job, that looks amazing.
  21. I have tried several times to learn guitar. For some reason my brain and fingers just can't seem to line up. I played clarinet in middle school and sang in choir in high school. I can read music, just can't seem to get things lined up playing guitar.
  22. First concert was Whitecross, Christian Heavy Metal, when I was in Confirmation class about 1991 or 1992. Pretty sure my pastor had NO idea what he was taking us to. Best was Ratt, Slaughter, Cinderella and Quiet Riot in 2005 at the State Fair.
  23. It was pretty low in front, slight rake on the rear. Exhaust note definitely matched the stance.
  24. Those tubs look really, really nice. Great work so far.
  25. Thanks guys. Looks like it gets the steel colored pan I am familiar with. Just wanted to make sure the stage 1s didn't come with something fancy. Quiet Eric, thanks for that link, I'll be using a lot of those images in this build.
