It has to please the builders eye, and sometimes that means doing something that may not be 100% accurate. If that means lowering it a bit, go for it. I bet most people will comment how good it looks, not even realizing that the car was lowered a bit. I always wanted to build the Grand Sport, but considering what little it takes currently for me to abandon back to the box, I know the GS wouldn't have a chance of completion.

It's just on the next page over, as of now. Here is a link: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=54933 I would have let Harry answer this, but, ya know, he doesn't come here too often.

That's the look of a clean street rod right there Tom!

Dodge tracked vehicle

Casey- what a strange beast that is, huh?! I wonder if it has any crossover potential to 1/25 scale for sci-fi or 4x4 builders? -
Put it on the lift! I need photos!
Jon Cole replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, if it was just about the Hudson, I probably would have. But I was thinking more of starting a conversation about cars we have a hard time finding the details we need. More of a "reference" thing as I see it. Thanks for responding Skip! -
The internet has everything! Well… not quite. Or at least, not easy to locate. For an OCD like me, trying to accurately figure out where everything on the chassis goes, is an exercise in frustration. Same goes for all that engine bay plumbing & wiring. I wasn’t one of those guys with a yard full of old cars in my youth. To this day, I still have a hard time trying to run gas lines, brake lines, e-brake lines, locate the master cylinder, front steering linkage, etc. on my models. Same thing goes for guessing accurate colors. The 1:1 cars are out there. We photograph them at shows. Now if we could just find a way to get it up on a lift. Let us under there with a camera! Some cars were built in large quantities, and combined with their popularity; there are enough survivors out there that restored versions show up on E-Bay and other web sites. But this Hudson I am building, well, E-Bay isn’t much help for clean chassis shots! And that front steering linkage looks wonky in the middle! I need assurance… I need pics! So there you have it. If you own a '53 Hornet, want to lift and click for us? What other cars could we use some "hobby reference" photos of?

What's the story behind your user name/avatar?
Jon Cole replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My name is my handle. I used to go by “Spyder” referring to the Corvair Spyder, however I changed it when the mods were seeking more accountability. My avatar photo changes on a whim. The current one is a self portrait I did w/ the laptop built in camera and not much light. -
Hummer H-1 Pick Up
Jon Cole replied to krishna.iskandana's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great job on the H1 Krishna! Shame Revell made it w/o engine or detail chassis parts. -
Nice job on those Willys, Doc! Great paint too!
-
I got the parts today... thank you Steve! Much appreciated! And, I posted this here, instead of the Swap section, as the deal had nothing to do w/ that page. Sometimes, people just offer!

I found a web page called "Where Harry finds his pics of model cars", and it wasn't there. So I voted "Real".

Great stuff, Curt.

What is Frenching?
Jon Cole replied to Bridgebuster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So, how can the headlights on the Hudson be Frenched? -
Nice! But I am curious if the tree is scratchbuilt or an aftermarket item? How did you make it?

Non-traditional colors on the flames (not the usual yellow-orange)! Looks so good!
-
That car is sweet! Clean and... stock! Harry, if certain threads should get pinned, I would vote for this to be included. Maybe in "How to"?

A well deserved bump on a great tutorial! Hope Bill can update us on this!

Check out Danbury's Hirohata Merc. The hood has photoetched working springs. Engine is fully wired and plumbed. Chrome everything. Even has the hood latch up front. How many models do you see that on? Elsewhere, she has movable spots, opening doors (no big dogleg hinge here). All glass is trimmed in real metal, not BMF. The steering works, and the side skirts are removable. The trunk opens up on smaller, more to scale doglegs, and have just enough resistance to hold the metal decklid up. The fully carpeted trunk holds a spare whitewall with wheelcover. It can easily be removed. The chassis shows full detail, with the already mentioned poseable steering, metal brake and E-brake detail w/ springs, and plumbed dual fuel pumps. Inside, the floors are fully flock carpeted, with a contrasting color border piping visible on the tranny hump. The steering wheel can turn the wheels, and the split front bench folds forward for access to the back seat. While the doors are open, notice how easily the wing windows open and close. The downers? Well, all their brand and licensing is cast into the bottom of the chassis floor. The car is heavy, there is a lot of metal in this car. There is a door gap issue, but nowhere as bad as other diecasts, or a few plastic kits for that matter. The sides wear chrome plated side spears, and everything has a near flawless paint finish, Most of us would be so lucky (or skilled) to have it this good by our own hands. This car... is what I think of, when we talk about diecasts. I have a few Jadas & Welly cars, some I have given away, others I spy on for wheel doners. But... not my Mint cars. They are close enough to museum quality for me. And at the cost of about five new model kits, owning one feels like ya have something real special on your display.

What's up with no posting?
Jon Cole replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"Saw people's real names and identities investigated by crack forum pot stirrers"? I wasn't questioning anyones name, I was pointing out a possible explanation for their TITLE; in this case, "Dr.". Please get the facts straight. And unlike your post that I quoted in part, I was at least polite about it. -
What's up with no posting?
Jon Cole replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Also, many times I have stopped writing a post, thinking "Why bother? Somebody is bound to get ticked off. Just not worth it". And the post is deleted before it is created. To be fair, sometimes that is a GOOD thing. The flip side of the coin? Some of the posts are not even controversial! You just never can tell what will set someone off! One time, someone was looking for Sombrero caps. I mentioned a caster that does them. I got a rude text from a well known machinist accusing me of depriving him of his livelihood! There are other instances also, but at this time not worth mentioning. None of this is exclusive to this site, it happens all over message boards and blogs. Personally, I think the moderators here do about a good a job as we can expect. I mean, I could never do that job! You can't shoot anyone over the internet!!!
