  1. Thanks for your input David. The acrylic paint has no smell that I have noticed. That's what I like about them.
  2. I guess wait for a sunny calm day and give it another shot hoping for better results.
  3. Got it sanded down, re-washed in Dawn, and re-primed. Came out fine.
  4. I hear ya dude. I haven't ready anything about any of these spray booths catching fire or anything else but I haven't been looking for it either. I just airbrush acrylic paints so I guess I'm good to go for now I guess.
  5. Thanks for the reply's fellows. I saw this one and was thinking about "You get what you pay for" but they are all just plastic with a metal box, fan, and cheap LED lights. Correct me if I wrong guys. https://www.wish.com/product/5f0ffb5df186e3467498733c?hide_login_modal=true&from_ad=goog_shopping&_display_country_code=US&_force_currency_code=USD&pid=googleadwords_int&c={campaignId}&ad_cid=5f0ffb5df186e3467498733c&ad_cc=US&ad_lang=EN&ad_curr=USD&ad_price=58.46&campaign_id=7203534630&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsqmEBhDiARIsANV8H3af8rl2hRDotmxP5ZeGakeMM_EAp7kOxyXC1biSp9020wlI5K6XBbgaAu-0EALw_wcB&share=web
  6. Ok fellows....here is a video and a few pics of the results of putting the test body in a tub of isopropyl alcohol for about 21 hrs. After cleaning the body up in hot water with Dawn dish detergent it looks pretty good. If I left it in a lot longer it may have taken more of the Rust-Oleum primer off as well but this is good for me. I'll just scuff it up and give it another coat of primer and call it a day.
  7. I've been airbrushing my models outside my garage door and the results or iffy at best. Without having a better controlled environment I can't really tell what's happening from the test I've been doing. I did a search on this site but it doesn't seem to work very well. I may be looking into a portable spray booth down the road. I can't leave it up all the time so I'll need something once I'm finished airbrushing that I can break down and stow away. There are ton's of these booths online for sale from $50 to $350 and I've read a lot of reviews about the fans not being strong enough, poor lighting with none replaceable lights, etc. Any suggestions/advise on brand, size, etc. from someone who owns and uses one of these spray booths would be appreciated.
  8. Looking nice Mike. I'd run the pipes all the way out the back if it were me. What did you make the mufflers out of?
  9. This is just after 2 hrs. Seems to be working pretty good. We'll see in the morning.
  10. I have it covered. Just took a pic of how the body was setting in the tub with all the lead weights.
  11. I decided to open the box on my next project but I'm not going to start the build just yet. Just checking things out. On my last couple builds I've waiting to paint the body last. I'm going to reverse the process and start painting the body's first. I'm still working on my paint skills and I'm in the process of doing some paint/gloss testing. Until I get this all worked out the 66 Nova will be on hold. I found a pic of a 66 & 67 Nova online that I really like the color so I have a bottle of Ceramcoat 'Bridgeport Grey" Acrylic paint that I may be using. Might add a little black to darken it up. I also added a review on my YouTube channel. Anyone who has built this kit before I'd like to hear the pro's and con's.
  12. I was at my local Hobby Shop and the owner who is a good friend said the Model Masters supply is not looking good.
  13. Test body is in the drink. I bought two 32oz bottles of the Isopropyl Alcohol and it just wasn't enough to cover the top of the body. I had a bunch of lead weights I sat in the tub to take up some of the area to raise the fluid level. I tried putting a weight on top of the car to hold it down and it kept sliding off as the paint was already starting to come off. It's on like Donkey Kong ☺
  14. I will try that next time Rick. Ok fellows, I spent about 10 min this morning wet sanding the top of the test body with 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000, 12000. After that I used Novus 3 Heavy Scratch Remover then Novus 2 Fine Scatch Remover, and I finished up with Meguiar's Liquid Wax. I gotta say, it took out 95% of the orange peel and it looks pretty good. Now I'm not saying that it's perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than what is was. So....I guess the moral of the story is if you paint your model and you get a lot of orange peel all is not lost. At least for me. I have 2 pics that clearly show the before & after results. Let me hear the comments on the process I used fellows. I also bought a couple bottles of the Isopropyl Alcohol to strip the body once I'm finished testing. I looked at the purple stuff but what I read said it smelled pretty bad so I opted not to use it. If the wife gets a sniff of something bad in the garage she will crack down on me ☺
  15. That "flake-y base" looks good to me. I'm getting to the point where I don't like the Testors paint anymore. It never seems to dry. For me anyway.
  16. That looks pretty nice. Well done.
  17. Great work dude. Love the detail work on the flatty.
  18. Ok....here's mine. To much wind, to much in a hurry, and to much paint. Hey, I'm working on it.
  19. NIce looking double nickel. I like the two tone.
  20. The script looks pretty good. Valiant looks sharpe as well. Good work.
  21. I'm going to try and wet sand a few area's this morning with 2000 thru 12000 and see what happens. If it doesn't turn out decent it's going for a bath. Keep in mind fellows that this is a test body so I'm trying different things to see what happens. This way I'll know what NOT to do next time. I'm stripping the body not matter what becasuse I didn't sand all the mold lines out and this is not the color I want for the 65 Impala anyway.
  22. Yeah I'm going to have to figure something out. Going after some isopropyl alcohol tomorrow to strip the paint t off and start over.
  23. Yeah....I think the wind was a little much today and it forced me to spray it to heavy. Hey, good experience for me.
  24. Ok I got 4 good coats of the Rust-Oleum Gloss sprayed on the test body. The paint has some orange peel so once the Gloss cures we'll see if wet sanding with help it out any. It looks a little on the rough side. These pics were taken about 5 min after it was sprayed. I don't know.....I may have to start over and pick a day that's not so windy.
  25. I got my test body painted earlier and I tried to repeat the process that I used yesterday on the spoons. Today was probably not the most ideal day to be airbrushing as the winds were gusting 20-30 mph. I stood at the back door of my garage spraying when the wind would let down. It came out better than I thought it would and nothing blew onto the paint. The paint has just a little orange peel but nothing really bad. I'll let this set for a couple hrs and then shoot the Rust-Oleum Gloss. I also polished the spoon I cleared yesterday. It's a little darker than yesterday and looks like it may have lost a little of the wet look but still not to bad. Like my granddaddy use to say....hope for the best and expect the worst.
