Seth, I've seen the Mr Hobby products on ebay and Amazon. I just prefer to buy locally that way if I need something it's just a 10 min trip to the hobby shop and if they don't have it in stock they can get it in the next day or two and no shipping cost. I pulled the Nova body and hood out of the drink (91% Isopropyl Alcohol) this morning. I was worried it may loosen the glue on the hood scoop but all is good. Like the test body I stripped the Nova same way. It just requires a little sanding and a lite prime and it's ready to paint. This solution doesn't seem to have any affect on the Rust-Oleum 2X primer but it doesn't matter. I primed the body in black this time as the grey looks a little light to me so maybe the black primer with darken the grey up a little.

Wife and I headed to a Cruise-in yesterday morning to a small town about 35 min away. Saw some old friends and meet some really nice people. Food and drinks were FREE. No registration just donations. I'm thinking there were about 150+ registered cars & trucks There was a Ford trackor that had a flathead V8 that sounded like a race car and the fellow would start it up once in a while. It was nice to get out again and swap lies ☺ The Red 49 Chevy Pickup is ours.

Thanks Mike/Dave. Since this is just a test body I'm trying to get a nice shiny finish. I need a process for myself that I can repeat. If the Impala paint works out I'll try and repeat it on the Nova body which is currently in the drink.

Mike, I'm not going to hold my breath. We'll see once I wet sand and polish it. I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst.
-
Nice looking coupe Rick. Is that at 32?
-
Yeah....I think I read somewhere to let is set for a week or more and that's what I plan on doing. I'll wet sand it EVER SO LIGHTLY with 4000, 6000, 12,000 then polish it with Novus 2. Fingers crossed on this one.
-
So Dave.....you think I should wet sand this or just polish it? I finally got something worth keeping so I don't want to mess it up. Haha....you are right. I was getting frustrated and on the verge of giving up.

Looks good man. Love the blue.

If this still looks good in the morning I will repaint my Nova with Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey and use the TS-13 the same way. Wife and I are taking our 49 Chevy pickup to a cruise-in tomorrow and there is rain on Sunday so I'll try and paint it on Monday. I'll need to pick up another can of the TS-13.

It looks much better. If that gloss holds up during the curing process I'll be a happy camper. I'm sure a lot of the gloss will fade as it cures but at this point I'm satisfied. Thanks dude. Does this hold true for the paint as well....get it on wet?
-
From the advise from a fellow on this forum I sprayed it again and put a couple more really wet coats on. If this holds up once it cures it would be great.
-
Ok. It's good and wet. I was afraid to spray anymore as it looked like it wan't to run. Feels like the spray can it getting pretty empty. Whatya think now???
-
You think maybe one good wet coat?
-
K. It has been curing for about 1 1/2 hrs. Can I spray it again wetter???

I have my 65 Impala test body painted before I repaint the Nova. I airbrushed the Tamiya X-7 Red yesterday morning and about an hour ago I sprayed it with the Tamiya TS-13. I sprayed all this in my makeshift paint booth. I'm looking for options on my next step. Wet sand or just polish? It still looks a little rough to me.
-
Ok.....I sprayed 5 coats of the Tamiya TS-13 over the Tamiya X-7 Red on the Impala test body. These pics or roughly 1 hr after I sprayed the TS-13. What do you fellows think??? The finish still seems a little rough looking to me. Should I wet sand or just polish with Novus?
-
I wet sanded the body and polished it with Novus. It came out a little better but not to my liking. It's now in the drink.

Looking good. -
Tom the seem is noticeable on the bottom as well just not as bad. Lesson learned fellows. Still in the learning mode.

Thanks for the tip Greg. Well.....I wet sanded the Nova with 4000, 6000, and 12,000 then polished it with Novus 2. It took a lot of the imperfections out but I didn't like the way that it looked so it's in the drink as we speak. I have the 65 Impala test body curing that I painted yesterday with the Tamiya acrylic paint. I'll be spraying the Tamita TS-13 this afternoon hoping for some good results. If this doesn't turn out satisfactory to me then I'm at my wits end and don't know what to try next if anything.

The green looks pretty kewl Tom and the stance is killer. Still trying to get the paint worked out on my 66.

Mike, Your on easy street compared to what I've been going through.
