*Best Looking Car/Truck Model You've Seen*
Zippi replied to Zippi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup.....nice looking build. -
Yup. I also like the ease of cleanup with the acrylic paints. That's why I started with acrylics. The lacquer sure looks so much better though.

Boy oh boy. I have one but my hand is not that steady. What's your secret?

Nice. That blue looks killer on that year. Did you use bmf on the trim?

Looking pretty sharp dude. I like the maroon lacquer. -
Mike, I did try the Anita's gloss black and red. I still have some left along with the Tamiya acrylic paint as well. I'll still be doing some airbrushing test on the Impala body. Ill get it figured out its just taking longer than I thought it would.

Mike. Nice work on the paint. You know what that means with the wife's approval....whatever size you were thinking of you can now go twice as big.

Thanks Snake. I'll take that into consideration. Well....after adjusting the tie rods this morning on my 1:1 1949 Chevy pickup I kept thinking about my paint issue. I checked my notes and one thing that was always consistent was the primer. So, I thought why not try the Rust-Oleum top coat and see what happens since the Rush-Oleum primer seems to lay down really well. I made a trip to the local Rural King and bought a can of Winter Gray Gloss and sprayed this over the Rust-Oleum black primer and I've gotta say it looks pretty good and I haven't sprayed the Clear Gloss yet. I still have my 65 Impala test body in primer so I'll continue to work with spaying the craft and Tamyia acrylic paints.

Mike. When I tried to lightly sand the Ceramcoat acrylic paint on one of my body's it seem to come off pretty easy. So.....steady as she goes mate ☺

Thanks Snake. I'll take that into consideration.

I was browsing the ole interweb for model car show video's and saw this 5 window coupe (maybe a 37 Chevy). I just thought it was a fantastic looking model and the color just pops on the car. I had a 37 Ford pickup street rod 1:1 so I'm real parcel to the mid to late 30's fat fender cars and truck. What have you spotted that just really caught your eye.

Mike.....what don't you like about the black?

James, I seem to get the parts to stick together it's the paint that is not wanting to cooperate for me. Are you using super glue or regular model glue.? Whenever you paint parts keep in mind the area that will be glued to another part and try to keep the paint away from that area.

I did strip the Red off the 65 Impala. Once the clear leveled out and cured, it looked like the rattle can was spitting. Just not having any luck with the paint.

Well.....I feel like a salmon swimming up stream fellows, not making much headway. I sprayed the Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey and it just didn't turn out very well. Not sure what happened as I sprayed it the same way I've been spraying with the air pressure at 20 psi, mixed the paint 50/50 with lacquer thinner, weather was about the same and I'm now airbrushing in my makeshift spray booth. Not only that, when I came out to the garage this morning I was checking out where I'm at on the Nova build and noticed the master cylinder is missing. I have no idea when it may have came off. I swept the floor and emptied the trash and no master cylinder. I stripped the body once again, sanded it, cleaned it, and re-primed it. All looks good at this point. This painting has got me stumped. I can normally figure things out but man oh man. I know a better environment for airbrushing would really help but that just isn't in the cards for me. I think at this point there is no need to proceed forward as I feel I would just get the same bad results. I have some work I need to do on my 1949 Chevy pickup 1:1 so maybe a good long break is what I need.

I polished the roof and I wet sanded and polished the deck lid. Can't see much difference. There wasn't much if any orange peel so that may be why.

I see this kit every time I go to HL. May have to pick one up. I'll be watching this build.

Nicely put Steven. Is that solder for your linkage and if so what size?

My wife and I went and looked at that dark blue 51 Chevy in the Dream Museum here locally a couple years ago to see about buying it. It just had to many issues for me. I talked with the new owner at the cruise-in and he had trouble with it when he bought it but has it all lined out. Very nice little grocery getter.

Yup. Gluing any and all assemblies together first and then painting them is what I do. I cut almost everything from the trees as flash needs to be removed before painting. I normally glue the parts to a skewer or tape it to a paint stirring g stick to spray paint them.
