I was at my local Hobby Shop and the owner who is a good friend said the Model Masters supply is not looking good.

Test body is in the drink. I bought two 32oz bottles of the Isopropyl Alcohol and it just wasn't enough to cover the top of the body. I had a bunch of lead weights I sat in the tub to take up some of the area to raise the fluid level. I tried putting a weight on top of the car to hold it down and it kept sliding off as the paint was already starting to come off. It's on like Donkey Kong ☺

I will try that next time Rick. Ok fellows, I spent about 10 min this morning wet sanding the top of the test body with 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000, 12000. After that I used Novus 3 Heavy Scratch Remover then Novus 2 Fine Scatch Remover, and I finished up with Meguiar's Liquid Wax. I gotta say, it took out 95% of the orange peel and it looks pretty good. Now I'm not saying that it's perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than what is was. So....I guess the moral of the story is if you paint your model and you get a lot of orange peel all is not lost. At least for me. I have 2 pics that clearly show the before & after results. Let me hear the comments on the process I used fellows. I also bought a couple bottles of the Isopropyl Alcohol to strip the body once I'm finished testing. I looked at the purple stuff but what I read said it smelled pretty bad so I opted not to use it. If the wife gets a sniff of something bad in the garage she will crack down on me ☺

What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)

That "flake-y base" looks good to me. I'm getting to the point where I don't like the Testors paint anymore. It never seems to dry. For me anyway. -
That looks pretty nice. Well done.

Great work dude. Love the detail work on the flatty.

NIce looking double nickel. I like the two tone.

The script looks pretty good. Valiant looks sharpe as well. Good work.

I'm going to try and wet sand a few area's this morning with 2000 thru 12000 and see what happens. If it doesn't turn out decent it's going for a bath. Keep in mind fellows that this is a test body so I'm trying different things to see what happens. This way I'll know what NOT to do next time. I'm stripping the body not matter what becasuse I didn't sand all the mold lines out and this is not the color I want for the 65 Impala anyway.

Yeah I'm going to have to figure something out. Going after some isopropyl alcohol tomorrow to strip the paint t off and start over.

Yeah....I think the wind was a little much today and it forced me to spray it to heavy. Hey, good experience for me.

Ok I got 4 good coats of the Rust-Oleum Gloss sprayed on the test body. The paint has some orange peel so once the Gloss cures we'll see if wet sanding with help it out any. It looks a little on the rough side. These pics were taken about 5 min after it was sprayed. I don't know.....I may have to start over and pick a day that's not so windy.

I got my test body painted earlier and I tried to repeat the process that I used yesterday on the spoons. Today was probably not the most ideal day to be airbrushing as the winds were gusting 20-30 mph. I stood at the back door of my garage spraying when the wind would let down. It came out better than I thought it would and nothing blew onto the paint. The paint has just a little orange peel but nothing really bad. I'll let this set for a couple hrs and then shoot the Rust-Oleum Gloss. I also polished the spoon I cleared yesterday. It's a little darker than yesterday and looks like it may have lost a little of the wet look but still not to bad. Like my granddaddy use to say....hope for the best and expect the worst.

I bought this pair of cutters at Hobby Lobby and they were just labeled as "Sprue Cutter". About $6 when they are on sale. They work great.

Build looks great. I use to always like when Bob Glidden and Warren Johnson paired up.

Mike those collectors came out pretty sweet.

Thanks Mike. Yeah....they label their paint as enamal but it is lacquer. My bottle of Anita's Glossy Red says it's a Permanent Arcylic paint. I'm going to wet sand the spoon tomorrow after the clear cures for 24 hrs. It looks good on the spoon but it's always a horse of a different color on the body right ☺ -
Great to see a place for us to communicate

Welcome aboard. Let's see some of those oldies. -
I went back and did a little more reading and I do take to heart what you guys are saying and put it to use this morning. I made sure I got enough paint and Clear/Gloss on and what a difference.

What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)

Did some paint/Gloss testing today on some spoons as I'm trying to find something what works for me and I can repeat. I used Anita's Glossy acrylic red paint and for the Gloss finish I tried Pledge Revive it, Tamiya Clear, and Rust-Olem Gloss. I think the Rust-Oleum came out on top. We'll see what it looks like tomorrow after it's cured for 24 hrs. Since the Rust-Oleum is an enamel it can still be wet sanded which is something else I need to do some testing on.
