Pierre Rivard replied to François's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Formidable work Francois. This new project is fascinating and unique. It was great meeting you in person at JacHobby this weekend and seeing your incredible Bentley. I'm a big admirer of your model creation & fabrication magic. -

Aston Martin DB5
Pierre Rivard replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Thank you Alan, I had to try something other than Silver Birch. I did not go forward until I could see that the roof was fixable. It's not perfect but much improved IMO, and the fix was easy to do. The main reason I decided to do this WIP. If you look at the body and it does not look right, then here's my suggestion for an easy fix. Wheels on this ride need to be 72 spokes 2 rows, giving USCP a try. Thanks Mike. It was a long journey but I got this brush painting stuff nailed down pretty good. Gotta do what you gotta do as condo life prevents me from spraying paint. Hi Gary. I just try to fix the most obvious. Wait til ACE chimes in, I'll bet he has spotted a lot more that needs to be addressed. Man... I need a mate like Phil. Does he print and sell these. I'd be first in line. -
Going for an easy curbside build (resting and gaining courage for the next one which will be a challenge) so a Revell Aston DB5 it will be. I thought I'd skip the WIP on this easy one but then... why not. I've wanted to do a DB4/5 for a while but could not find a decently priced Airfix DB5 and the Doyusha DB5 and Monogram DB4 have their issues. This new kit form Revell opens that door. It's a simple easy click kit so a simple build it will be. I want to do a "gentleman's weekend club racer" so the Bond features will be removed. I plan to upgrade the wheels to printed units and want to improve the roofline which does not look quite right to my eye. Here we go, this will be a WIP light!

Ferrari 250GT Barn Find!
Pierre Rivard replied to jaymcminn's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I love how the body has been weathered and the work on the seats is top notch. Can't wait to see how you will age them. Learning a lot here. -
Wonderful build Paul. MFH kits are a big challenge but can be turned into masterpieces. Certainly the case here.

Building Before Paint?
Pierre Rivard replied to 1hobby1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't use Elmers glue but I dry test everything multiple times and always a mock up of the chassis to set the ride height to where I want it. Also important (to me) is having a good painting strategy. Some parts need to be cleaned off, deflashed and painted individually and some can be pre-assembled and painted together as a subsystem. A lot of time is spent on a project before cement and paint steps start. -

Superb work all around up to your very high standards Mr. Dauphinee. You have produced so many upgrades that it takes a second or even third review to take it all in. Very impressive. The use of vinyl for the center stripes is something I am not familiar with but very interested. Could you share info on the maker of this material. Definitely something I would want to try. -
Just catching up with your beautiful build Daniel. You wrote that you don't plan on the underside to be seen but it more and more looks otherwise as you add more details to it. The wash and dust on the chassis makes it look like it should. My stuff is much more basic in execution compared to your's but I always wash & dust the chassis if only to add a bit of realism. Inspirational build for sure

Alan Mann Racing Ford F3L/P68
Pierre Rivard replied to Dave B's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Wow Dave, such a beautiful race car and your rendition of it is incredible. You have again turned this printed body into a masterpiece with paint that still looks wet and formidable looking wheels. I love it! -
1/12 Trumpeter GT40 Kensar style
Pierre Rivard replied to kensar's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Awesome awesome build Ken. I religiously followed your WIP and it was quite the learning experience. So much went into this build that the final picture cannot show it all. As good as it gets. I love the aluminium color on the body with the blue stripe and dark wheels. The car looks no nonsense all business and intimidating. -

Scratch building a carburetor... never seen that before. No resin cast or 3D printing shortcut for this builder. In this shop we make our own parts! -
Ferrari 250GT Barn Find!
Pierre Rivard replied to jaymcminn's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Very interesting technique. Now I see it. Do you target a cleaned up barn find or plan to the just found in the barn look? Adding washes and dry pigments could do that. What a great build to follow. -
Your chassis fabrication looks most convincing. Period picture below demonstrates the "simplify, then add lightness" quote from Chapman. Great for winning races... not so good if you crash...

This flat 12 & trans combo are simply gorgeous. Such level of detailing is a must at 1:12 scale and this one nails it. Bravo! -
Gorgeous build so far Bruce. Your paint is always so good and the color on this one really pops. happy about the Lusso making a comeback. These two will look great side by side.

1932 Blower Bentley Single Seater
Pierre Rivard replied to jomartin's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
An extraordinary build with a variety of materials chosen to enhance the realism to a point that the model looks full scale. The low gloss paint finish looks period perfect for a race car, the amazing wire wheels and the real leather seat... I could go on and on. Bravo!
