  1. A very clean, realistic, beautiful build of a very historic race car that we very rarely see in a hand built scale model. If I’m not mistaken, isn’t this is the car that Dan G. climbed out of and started the champagne spraying tradition in the winner’s circle? I haven’t yet visited the HF museum to see the 1:1 but did get a chance to see it at a Gurney tribute weekend at Laguna Seca in 2010 (along with all of his beautiful eagles). Scalemates.com list a 1/24 injection molded kit of a Mk IV made by Nakamura back in the ‘70’s - has anyone ever seen this kit sold or built? I wish Fujimi would produce a Mk IV along with an early series Ford Mirage in 1/24. You can only build so many GT-40’s (or not!). Thanks for sharing!
  2. What a gorgeous Alpine. I’m really impressed with the bright trim work (foil?), absolutely stunning. I built this Tamiya kit many years ago and remember it being a joy to assemble. It’s also amazing how small these cars were (I’ve never seen a 1:1 version in person, I just remember comparing it with other 1/24 car models at the time). Thanks for sharing!
  3. Very nice job on the most difficult car model color for me, gloss black.Large decals over scoops and compound curves that have to be nearly perfectly symmetrical makes your finished build 2X impressive as well. Beautiful job!
  4. Thanks Ron as well as the others above who have left kind comments. The turned aluminum velocity stacks are made by Detail Master (item #3295). These are not really period correct for ‘64-65 Mopars, they should be shorter with more of a right angle ‘L’ profile like the molded ones included by Moebius. I wish DM or other after market sources offered the more classic Mopar stacks. I may just drill out and re-metalize the molded stacks included in the kit on the next Moebius hemi I build.
  5. Nice job Jason on I think what is Moebius’s most challenging auto kit. You did an excellent job resolving the window and grill fit issues. Also nice job applying all those big decals over all those compound curves and sharp ridges. A Cool Cat (or should I say dog?)!
  6. Impressive job with the silver sharpie on the trim! Did you mask it first or just apply freehand? The color look’s more appropriate than I first thought based on the brochure pic posted above. A beautiful tribute to Vigil Exner’s styling!
  7. Beautiful cleanly built Cougar! Im really impressed with your “paint over bare metal foil” job on the emblems. You’d need a microscope to detect the outline of the foil edge. Is there a tutorial for this technique posted anywhere? Do you sand the paint off using micro mesh or remove it with solvent? I’d love to try this sometime (versus my feeble attempts at freehand cutting foil around the border of molded-in script). Nice job Bart! Thanks for posting!
  8. Wow! Great job on the screaming man logo and all-around scratch building on an old craftsman kit. Funny coincidence, I am in the process of building a ‘65 Chevelle Super stocker using the Revell kit and am building Kelly Chadwick’s car because of the Slixx decal set being available. I would have built this Tom Sturm car if there had been decals out there for it. Love the dated 60’s advertising look of the man screaming “FOR CHEVY LOVERS!!!!!” Thanks for posting your impressive +50 yr old build.
  9. Received this incredible resin cast 1/24 Ford 289 w/ 4 Webber’s from Model Builder Warehouse recently. One of the Webber’s had a slight short-shot on one of the velocity stacks but Randy @ MBW is sending me a replacement - great service! My plan: use this 289 in the Moebius ‘65 Comet A/FX kit to build a B/FX version. I built an A/FX version of Hayden Proffitt’s car with this kit and loved Moebius’s version of the big 427 cammer engine so much, I ordered a 2nd kit to use this same engine in an A/FX ‘65 Mustang I want build (based on Revell’s 1/24 Mustang 2+2 kit). Now that I have an extra engine-less 65 Comet, why not build a 289 drag car version? I’m hoping the slight scale mismatch of the 1/24 289 in the 1/25 Comet won’t be too noticeable - the kit’s 1/25 427 cammer looks huge as it is! I would love to build Doug Nash’s B/FX but I don’t believe there are any decals available and being white letters on a dark car(red), probably not an easy DIY decal project....anyone know of any ‘65 Comet B/FX decals out there???? John
  10. Gorgeous Nova! Amazing photographic work/ lighting.
  11. This ‘41 Willys gasser was my first attempt at candy apple red using Tamiya rattle can lacquers, TS-74 transparent red over TS-21 gold. I clear costed it with TS-13. I have this same Revell kit that I plan to build someday as the Stone-Woods-Cook rival car and rattle can paint it Tamiya transparent blue over silver leaf.
  12. Ok, look's like my Nova posting worked so here's another recent build. This is the Moebius kit, built OOB except for the after market resin carbs, aluminum velocity stacks and pre-wired distributor and odd PE, springs and wires. I used the large kit decals based on a very good experience with the Moebius "California Flash" kit which were fantastic too work with and, even though they were white, ended up being very opaque when. applied over an orange base. While also excellent for color and opaqueness, these Melrose Missile decals ended up being much more difficult to apply and settle down. The scoop decal was slightly undersized so I had to use blue touch-up paint around the edges. Tamiya light metallic blue (TS-54) ended up being a pretty good match for these decals. Other than decals, this Moebius kit (like their other '65 Plymouth kits) assembles with little fuss. I tend to build at least two kits at a time so I always have something to work on while I'm waiting for paint to cure. I have a '65 Chevelle SS (Kelly Chadwick) and a '64 Thunderbolt (Gas Ronda) in process and will post these hopefully in the near future. It's really nice to have so many great early 60's super stock drag car kits out there, it seems like I'm more limited these days by appropriate decals that are available. John
  13. Ok, please bear with me, this is my first attempt at posting a build here so I'll try to make it brief and hopefully succeed at posting photos. This is the 1/25 AMT/ Round 2 kit, mostly OOB other than a Fireball resin Holley, a Detail Master pre-wired distributor and a few PE parts and wires and an enlarged oil pan. I masked and painted the roof stripes because I was painting a two-tone anyways. AMT/ Round 2 included fabulous looking decals with this kit (Cartograph quality) but, as with previous recent AMT kits, I seem to have a curse with them fracturing badly when exposed to water. I even applied two coats of Microset decal restoration fluid on this set and they still self-destructed. SLIXX came to my rescue on this build. I tried to build Bill "Grumpy" Jenkin's first Nova stock drag car to NHRA 1966 A/S rules (battery in stock location, stock exhaust in place but headers allowed), but it's hard to find good under hood and under carriage reference photos of any of Grump's race cars so I likely have some inaccuracies here. Also, I avoided the '666' numbering on this build to avoid that "Damien thing" that my wife would likely bring up....fun build, still not tired of building 60's SS'ers. Cheers, John
  14. Really weird.....the first 1:1 car image is the exact car I learned how to drive in and took my DMV test in in like 1969, my mom's '66 Malibu, even the same color (although think she always had whitewalls on it.....and the second 1:1 car image is the CAR I CURRENTLY LUST FOR (new 5.0 'Stang in arrest-me red)! (I drive a 4 cyl maaaazda....an old guy can still dream....)
  15. Russ, Dave, Thanks for responding. When I tried signing up on my iPhone 7 or MacBook PRO (2019 model), I got the error message shown in the attached screenshot, “reCAPTCHA”. When I googled a fix, I was instructed to temporarily change my IP address settings to get around it. I did this in both my phone and laptop with no success. It could be related to our miserable Spectrum (charter cable) router/ service. Anyways, problem solved for me. Looking forward to posting a few RFI builds later today.
  16. Forgive me for posting this comment if it’s old info. I’ve been trying to join this forum for years using my Mac or iPhone with no luck due to the Mac incompatible aspect of the security part of the sign up.I signed up this morning on my wife’s Windows OS laptop and it worked! Now I’m able to log-in and post using my Mac. Problem solved! I have been posting for a few years on Britmodeller (wonderful forum but mostly fern cars) and FSM (nice folks but somewhat of a wasteland for auto modelers). Really looking forward to posting builds and sharing comments on this board of incredibly talented builders. John
