  1. Haha ya see, that’s why I like posting here. I send that pic to my brother and he says “cool”, but I post it here and you guys immediately know what went into building it. Spending the time to scratch stuff like marker lights and dash bezels is worth it when people like you dudes pick up on it ???? Much appreciated.
  2. thanks - yeah i think this will be my new go-to color combo whenever i want to do a red car. really happy with it.
  3. Thanks - yeah the rims are bugging me too. I hit them with tamiya smoke then dull coated portions and panel washed others but probably didn’t spend enough time with it. I could touch them up pretty easily ?? I was going for this look below…but the wheels in your photo are sweet
  4. thanks dude - the key was using super light coats of the clear red to let the aluminum shine through ?? thanks fellas! Thanks mike - I just shoved some 26 or 28 gauge (can’t remember which) wrapping wire into a small heat shrink tube, shrunk it down, then attached another smaller piece at the ends
  5. Just finished the ‘69 GTO by Revell/Monogram. I really had fun with this one. It took a lot of work to get the nose to line up flush with the body, but other than that there were no real issues. The kit was pretty basic so I had to make a few small tweaks/additions (engine bay, door handles, mirrors, tail lights, dash bezels, gauge faces, side reflectors, etc.) It was my first “candy” paint job and I really like how it added depth and realism to the little car - it almost changes color depending on the light. Tamiya spray cans - 2 coats grey primer, 3 light coats of clear red over two coats of gloss aluminum, wet sanded then cleared with ts-13 and polished out. Will definitely use that combo again. Gonna try it with clear blue next… Foiling the trim tested my patience more than usual but I eventually calmed down and got it done. Had no choice but to do the window and wheel trim with Hasegawa mirror finish since I simply could not get the bmf to stick (may redo it if/when bmf ever sorts out their product - it’s been brutal and almost ruined the build). Ok enough complaining ? I want to drive this car!!
  6. that's one good looking jag. i've done the coupe and a roadster this year and they've been my favorite kits to date so i bought four more of them - will definitely be trying this color scheme on the next one. it looks amazing - great job.
  7. Nice - I’ve contemplated that as well but the area around the rear windshield/trunk worries me. My gto is getting a vinyl top too so maybe I’ll just wait till you do yours and then go to school ? good luck!
  8. it's always these little tasks which are most nerve-racking. i just finished my first candy paint job on a 69 gto and i'm fairly happy with it, but i have a feeling i'm going ruin all that hard work when i black out the engine bay. we shall see. speaking of masking...how do you handle the window/windshield trim when you spray your vinyl tops? do you mask the trim, or do you just mask the body, spray on the top, and then sand the texture out of the trim after the paint dries (so you can apply foil over a smooth surface)? I've been doing the latter and it's worked out ok, but it always seems to leave just a liiiiiittle bit too much texture under the foil which drives me nuts. masking may be the solution, but i'm worried i won't get the "vinyl" paint all the way to the edges of the chrome. maybe i just need to get better at masking...or sanding...or models in general haha anyway - the coronet looks awesome so far and i can't wait to see the finished product!
  9. Absolutely beautiful - you just keep getting better and better (I wish you built out the engine though! ?) I’ll definitely sit down with this build video when I get around to my cobra kit. Really great job ?
  10. That’s a great looking car. Awesome job on the repair too.
  11. Looking good! That’s blue is really nice. Love the wheels
  12. Really appreciate that. Thanks!
  13. Thanks! I felt like the super bright orange was making my engines look too toyish on my earlier builds so I started doing a couple of things to help tone it down a bit. I prime the assembled block and trans with tamiya gray then spray the whole thing in either silver leaf or gloss aluminum depending on the engine (this one was gloss aluminum). Then I mask it off and spray the block in plain old TS-12 orange. I brush some silver on the edges that need cleaning up and then it’s a light coat of clear (I used TS-79 semi on this one to pull some shine out). When it’s all dry, I weather the whole thing with some light metallic acrylics and tamiya black and brown panel washes. So much happier with how they come out now.
  14. Thanks fellas!
  15. Must have missed this one. Great job - love that color. Such a great kit.
  16. Thank you sir. Yeah it’s pretty close but the real car a has sort of translucent turquoise look to it, which was tough to achieve with a clunky spray can. That said, the TS paint was amazing and looks really nice in person…will definitely use it again.
  17. Just finished my ‘65 Impala. It’s an older kit that fought me on every turn - I was due for a struggle and I got one. Fitment issues and warping were the biggest hurdles but we worked it out ? I tried messing around with the paint technique on this one - I went two light coats of tamiya pearl light green over silver leaf followed by some heavy coats of TS-13 clear in an attempt to recreate the look of the 1:1 (the bottom one in this pic). It turned out ok, all things considered, but an airbrush would have really been the better method - I could have mixed a little light blue in there for a more even turquoise finish. Oh well, I’ll get one someday… Only mods were to the front and rear dashes, and the engine bay, otherwise its straight out of the box. Have a nice weekend everybody ????
  18. wow - all three look amazing. that firebird is a beauty. i have another one of those in my stash and may copy you on the color. what kind of paint did you use?
  19. That is really great looking. What paint did you use for the body?
  20. wow that thing is awesome. i really fell in love with this car while making the model. everything about it is just so dang cool.
  21. looking good! love that color
  22. thanks man! appreciate it. i had a lot of free time last week lol
  23. ahh man...good to know. i was planning on t-topping one of them, so i guess i'll just keep the saw out a little longer. thanks!
  24. what's the deal with the rear window? i have a couple of these in the pipeline looking good tom!
  25. that would look great! but i'm probably going to switch the wheels out soon anyway...i'm looking for a set to match the ones in the photo up top. fireball has a charger set that, with a little tweaking, could get me pretty darn close.
