Very similar. You can check out the parts breakdown via the instruction sheet here: http://modelkitreviews.proboards.com/thread/979/mpc-3052-shaker-vette All of those extra, specially designed parts and pieces for this specific issue to allow the motor to operate inside the engine block remind me of the functioning body lift parts in the 1/12 Mean Maverick. I doubt the added cost and complexity was recouped by MPC.

Are you starting with some money already put away for college, or are you starting with little to nothing and trying to use the sweat equity you plan to put into vehicle sale to make that money? I hope it's the former. Wait until you are done with college, and have established yourself with a comfortable income to spend on a luxury item like a vehicle restoration project.

The Revell '65 and '64 Chevy Pickups and '69 Shelby GT-500 kits, too, but no match on those either. Looking at the outer side of the wheel back (where it would mate against the outer wheel half), it looks like it may have been sanded flat, as the center disc area appears to have a flat seen, but the innermost face appears untouched.

Tools for Photo Etched parts?

Yeah, that's one reason I'm holding on to the idea of it being a Revell part, plus, it fits the tire I mentioned above perfectly, with the 'seated' depth spot on. The outer diameter of the wheel lip also has the slightly uneven mold seam that other similar Revell large diameter wheels have, too. I also *think* I remember having a full set of four of these at one time, but only have the lone piece remaining. It seems Revell was slowly gravitating toward the one-piece or paddle style wheels to fit into a stretch-to-fit tire in more recent years, so I think this might've been from one of the earlier CA Wheels kits. I've also ruled out both the '72 Olds Cutlass Supreme convertible, '62 Impala SS and '65 Chevelle Z-16, kits, but I'm going to keep looking until, hopefully, I see a match.

AMT Cartoon Gasser Series - how many were there?
Casey replied to TimKustom's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
While it's probably not possible to determine of the parts are truly from the pictures box unless you unsealed the box yourself, this one appears to fit the bill: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-AMT-WILLYS-GASSER-CARTOON-BOX-ISSUE-/283241813858?hash=item41f2871762%3Ag%3AnOAAAOSwHntbjG9V&nma=true&si=RRtebrQbZgwM17O%2BHu%2BGhws5VAI%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Was the price extension changed between the two issues/boxes, maybe, Mark? -
I thin the separate roof(s) is (are) a deal breaker for many people, plus, the Badman version just checks so many boxes-- '55 Chevy, Tom Daniel-designed, gasser, etc. It has 'The Look' that makes you pick up and buy the kit.

Question about an AMT single axle trailer

AMT '64 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe: -
Agreed. I think some kits in the series used a decal in place of a plastic brake rotor and caliper, so possibly from one of those kits...? I think I may have gotten these in a trade from a member here, so entirely possible I never purchased the kit in question first hand, nor ever looked over the full contents myself. I'm 99% sure the Revell '57 Chevy Sedan and '56 Del Ray CA Wheels kits used tires with more squared off shoulders, different from those include in the earlier CA Wheels series kits. The search goes on.
-
No, those are spoked and chrome plated.
-
I am 99% sure this wheel back came from one of the Revell "California Wheels" or similar kits which included larger diameter wheels and lo-pro tires, but I can't determine which kit. I have ruled out the Revell '66 El Camino, '66 Chevelle Wagon, '67 Chevelle SS, and '64/'65 Chevy Pickup kits, as they include chrome plated, spoked wheel backs. I am pretty sure these were never chrome plated either, but can't guarantee that. The inner face (faces towards the center of the vehicle, where the brake drum/disc touches it) has a very short stub, and was not trimmed down by me. Most of the wheel sets found in these kits have a slightly smaller diameter front wheel and tire, and this particular wheel back fits the slightly smaller Goodyear Eagle SC tires (with the sidewalls wiped clean) many of those kits included.

I think this is just one of those timeless, ever-popular kits which sell out quickly when currently available, and aren't produced often enough to satisfy demand.

Most of it appears to have survived as the War Horse Maverick kit. The Multi Maverick version was reissued in 2006, so I wouldn't be too surprised to see it reissued by Round2:

Comparison pics of both the Revell 1/25 SnapTite (lime green) and 1/24 Monogram (blue) '70 Chevelle SS 454 kit bodies. What really stood out to me in the below image was how much 'flatter' the roof's arch is on the 1/24 body. The rear quarter window opening looks closer to the real car's opening to my eyes, and that subtle 'kink' at the door and quarter window transition is present at the top edge...but not the bottom: Real car, for comparison:
