AMT Crazy Eight Speed Shop Decals?
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks, Mark. I'll keep my eyes peeled for some. -
True, but would the same pieces in 1/25 scale fare that much better to justify copying and downsizing everything? It seems like an odd subject to pursue, but maybe as a stand alone parts pack, even though what Round2 seems to have shown at Nuremberg appears to be a full-size "car" box. Spill the beans, Mike!
-
I assume it's similar to what Polar Lights did with a few of the ex-Aurora Monster kits back in the early '00s(?), but it still seems like a very strange choice to me. The Aurora Racing Scenes Funny Car Chassis kit is right there, too, so...not sure what to make if it all, honestly.
-
That sure looks like it....hmmm, on the desk here...: ...and again present on Jamie H's desk here: I mean, it's neat and all, but it seems like a really weird choice if there's any merit to it? I guess we'll find out more if there is anything more to the story.

OK, get your magnifying lenses out to see this one...and that might not even be enough. Under the Round2 sign section, top left, above the black(?) Toyota pickup...what is that? Looks like a guy standing, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, but I can't make out the rest. The box looks unfamiliar, too, possible AMT logo on the side?

1/24 Photoetched Leaf Spring Sets from Minor
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Well, I posted this in case anyone else was interested in seeing what these are like up close. I always assume people know they can scratchbuild their own, well, just about anything, given enough time, patience, and skill, but again, this post wasn't intended as a tutorial, just a "here's something which is available.." type deal. You should post a tutorial (maybe you have on another online forum?) or the finished work (or best, both) so people can see what that involves and what the end result looks like. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see that. -

1/24 Photoetched Leaf Spring Sets from Minor
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Here's why: TO BUY Please send an e-mail to info@minor-web.com with the complete product name and reference you want to buy, also your address, and we will contact you. Also you can contact to our dealers Easier and faster to order off eBay. They shipped within a few hours and I had no issues with delivery, which was less than $4.50 U.S. One of the thing I like about the Minor leaves vs. handmade is the leaves which are to be curled and have their ends closed are thinned on one side, making that job much easier and the end result neater. For $14 or so, I am guaranteed perfectly even leaves, centered centering bolt holes, perfectly symmetrical brackets, and zero need to draw, print, expose, and etch my own parts...well worth the $14 to me. Since I'm not using them on the intended vehicles anyway, exact fit isn't a concern, either. I do have miniature nuts and bolts in hand already, so I just need my reading glasses and hope I don't launch to many onto the floor. Here's a utility trailer I'm using some of the leaves on now: -
The AMT opel GT's Buick V6 is garbage. Completely smooth and block cylinder heads and block (much like the AMT Gremlin's engine)...I would find something else:
-
Again, no. I'd love a Willys Aero as a kit, but I'm honest enough to admit it would never sell enough units to justify the investment. As Rob said, far too obscure, no specific racing pedigree like the Hudson Hornet and 300C had. Look at these production numbers...minuscule in comparison to other manufacturers:
-
Hardly anyone would buy it. There's no market to sell even 5,000 of such a kit, no matter how many different "versions", but you already know that. Another example of a subject an aftermarket company could (and IIRC, one already does) provide and satisfy 99.7% of those who want one. For the remaining .03%, they can scratchbuild the Crosley of their dreams. The only thing Crosley about those is the body shell, and R&R and Fremont Racing Specialties have that covered.

Thanks. I read the "Elf" reference, but had no idea what that meant. Did you use the 6mm lenses for the Mack?
-
Beautiful work, and I saw lots of great details as I read through your progress posts in the forum you linked to. What did you use for the headlight lenses and reflectors, Yuri?

Revell '55 Bel Air Box Art Tribute, Part I - Yellow Car

Thanks, Steve. I guess I lucked out this time. I had seen a bunch "flipped" like this on various Tri-Five.com projects, but never read what you mentioned. -
Revell '55 Bel Air Box Art Tribute, Part I - Yellow Car
Casey replied to Casey's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks, Chris. I've been slowly pecking away at the interior, repeatedly trimming, sanding, and test fitting the door/quarter panel pieces and floor in the body shell until the fit is just right. I added some right angle tabs to the edges of the floor to more positively retain the side panels, and that helped immensely, so the fit of those three pieces is very good now. I had to add some material to the edge of the AMT dashboard, but it looks like it should work just fine with the Revell '57 side panels after I add some additional filler pieces. Test fit progress: I widened the radiator support a bit to get a more positive fit, but lost some detail in the process. I'll add some right angle pieces or similar, to replicate what someone might've done when moving the radiator ahead of the support for engine clearance. In the below two images you can see where the upper radiator hose bung was plugged (I can't recall why there were two holes?) and the mold seams removed. I think I'll add some tank detail to the bottom of the radiator, too, as that area is highly visible now that part of the splash pan has been removed: I received a set of bucket seats from the MPC Jeep CJ-2A kit (thanks again to Paul Gardner ) and cleaned up and re-shaped one of them, though I still need to make some additional brackets to raise them up a bit. They are a very basic, lightweight seat which I reasoned could have been easily found in a salvage yard back in the day, and they'd be much lighter than the stock bench seat anyway. Not sure how I'll finish them, yet: -
Best way to ship a lot of models?
Casey replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Try Greyhound Package Express: http://www.shipgreyhound.com/e/pages/Home.aspx I've used it to ship a roll bar for a Dodge Power Wagon and was very pleased with the shipping service and cost. The closer you are to terminals at both ends, the better. -
AMT M&H Racemaster Dragster Slicks & Parts Pack Tires
Casey replied to Gregg's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks, Don. Those should be easy to find. -
Yes, that same block/engine design became the 3.8L/3800 V6 as we know it. You'd need a different 2WD transmission, though, and not sure if the exhaust manifolds would work in the H-body Skyhawk chassis, either.

Box art, before the box. All are AMT. The Gold Chevy pickup, Thunderbird Styling Kit, and '50 Ford Convertible work are the work of Al Borst, but not sure who painted the Falcon box art:

Were the pictured "Crazy Eights Speed Shop" decals ever included in the 1/32 AMT Studebaker Avanti kit, or only in the slot car as pictured?
-
Were the Wrist-Twist steering wheel pieces back in the 2004 RC2 reissue? Other than those parts, a custom headrest, a pair of slicks and the different wheels, all the different issues are very similar. What the story was with the "Super Street Rod"(!!) sub-theme(?) AMT used on this release of the '66 Mercury?:
