FTFY. The forthcoming Revell kit need not set the 1/25 scale world ablaze. It simply needs to be better than what's currently available, and it likely will be. Also, can we keep this topic about the forthcoming Revell kit, please?

FWIW, what Ed told me regarding the 1/8 scale Monogram Chevy V8 engine parts was later confirmed by Atlantis. I think if he was worried someone else was going to swoop in and undercut Revell by tooling up an all new 1/8 scale Big Drag, he would've kept quiet. I can understand James' frustration. He did travel to Las Vegas, then provided plenty of info and images directly from the event. I doubt he's looking for any credit or adoration, as his love of the hobby seems clear to me, and he owes nothing to any manufacturer, has no ties to publishers (that I'm aware of), etc., so he seems free and clear to deliver what he wants without restrictions...which is exactly what I feel he did, and very well. Maybe it's just cabin fever getting to the Northern hemisphere folks, too. At any rate, Revell seems to be rounding the corner a bit, and some good things are on the 2022 release schedule so far, IMHO.

He's not wrong. Having talked to Ed in person myself, I learned a few things which I could never have found out otherwise. I'm always inclined to give those who do the actual legwork (James in Vegas in this case) the benefit of the doubt, especially when they've proven themselves to provide accurate information on more than one occasion. Not sure why folks are getting worked up here, but could be the temps outside making everyone stir crazy inside. Whatever the reason, I'm sure we'll al l have plenty of time to critique and comment on the '71 Olds 442 once it arrives, then again when future variants appear, whatever those may be. For those wanting a formal roof, that particular body was available from the aftermarket years ago when the convertible was released, and at least one member here has/had a WIP showing how he did the roof addition, so get after it if you truly want one.

Avoid the Revell S&H 5 slots, as the lug nuts are clocked awkwardly on two of them. The AMT 5-slots, found in the '32 Vicky, Studebaker Avanti (and probably others) are okay, but 14" IIRC, and you have to be aware of sinkholes in the spokes. IIRC the center tap is a bit on the tall side, too. Those are nice but not quite the same style as those in Mike's image, plus, the Corvair's wheels are 13" diameter.

T.V. and screen, and a, ehem, French phone in the AMT Surf Woody: -
Most of their beers are worth seeking out, but I steer clear of double and triple IPAs, so I've only sampled their Pompei, Intergalactic Warrior, etc. I just found this locally (might've been released a few months ago, not currently on their 'site), and really liked it. I didn't think it was a tropical as advertised, which, is fine. ?. Probably much easier to find west of the Mississippi, hailing from San Diego. I've been very pleased with every Modern Times IPA I've tried, too:
-
If you like that, you should (maybe you already have) try Toppling Goliath's Pseudo Psue. Not sure if gets distributed that far west from Decorah, Iowa, but the two beers are very similar, both excellent if you like hazy IPAs.

Anyone in the know about Paul Gardener (gardenerpag44)?
Casey replied to Khils's topic in Where's Waldo?
Have you tried e-mailing him at the address in his profile?: gardnerpag44@yahoo.com I'm not going to re-post it here, but using the location and name in his profile, it's not difficult to get an address, etc. -
1/25, and should be mostly the same as the previous '72 Cutlass Supreme Convertible kit(s).

I'm sure Round2 wants to get their money's worth out of the re-tooled Reactor wheels. Makes building a Jupiter 8 even easier, too. ?

Atlantis Trans Am 1/32 scale.

How do the tires look? I think Atlantis tooled up new tires, IIRC. -
I think that was just early artwork for the sell sheet, but the original box art appears the same as the forthcoming reissue:
-
I think it was the second issue, T-399, from '74 or '75, which included the wheel pants, not the original T-174, which was, ehem, pantsless. ? T-399, molded in blue, with wheel pants:

Yes, likely not far enough along at this point to release anything publicly. I was a bit surprised, but pleased, to see printouts of the 3D renderings James shared here in August from the Vegas show. Good stuff coming in 2022 from Revell.
-
Agreed, but as James Duff mentioned many times, what's old to you and I might be a case of "first time I've ever seen that!" for some who haven't been hobby aware since the last reissue in 2006. The word 'oddball' truly does not do this kid justice, and I've wondered how a kit of this one-off machine came to be, but, 1/20 MPC. ?♂️ If you are looking for a Gurney-Weslake V8, this kit is your savior. Some interesting parts and pieces (bogey wheels, etc.) but ultimately, a drag snow machine, and in 1/20 scale to boot.

I am all for re-using materials on scale models, so no issue there. What it boils down to, for me at least is this: Is the method/tool/material recommended/suggested an upgrade over what is supplied in the kit or another option? In this case, I think the caning from the bottle could be used for something and end up working, just not as a truck bed floor planking. While cost is always a factor, I unfortunately read of many suggestions here to use free or very low-cost items (say oval beads for hex -AN style fittings) which, IMHO, are not an upgrade, and sometimes, are worse than the starting point. Absolutely. I have a bin full of oddball materials and items which I may one day use, but only if it makes the particular model part I'm using it to replicate better than what was supplied in the kit.

What happened to all the whitewalls?
Casey replied to gwolf's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The exact same tires were in thousands of kits over the last few years, too, and people are always parting kits out on ebay if you don't have a need for a full kit. I'm sure there are plenty of members here who don't use the whitewalls which come in the kits they purchase, so post a Wanted ad below and see what happens. Some of these parts packs were released a decade ago now, too: -
Well sure, you can carve a '32 Ford out of an old toothbrush, too (and it's FREE!), but is it going to look good, be easy to work with, remain stable, accept paint, duplicate the real thing, etc? Just because it's free or easy to acquire doesn't mean it's a good idea to use it. Joe's right here, IMHO. A piece of basswood will run you what, $5.00? Stable, even grained, accepts stain and clear easily, cuts and sands smoothly, and so on. While it'll run you five bucks, I think most of us can get past the Wal-Mart mentality and understand that starting with a better raw material should result in a better finished product...which I thought was the goal.

Revell has already released a '72 Cutlass Supreme convertible, so a coupe version (using the base "flat" hood) wouldn't be too difficult to cobble together from parts which already exists. Maybe interior trim, etc. is a deal breaker, though? Like Pontiac Olds didn't have big and small block V8s, only a difference in deck height, giving us tall-and short-deck Olds V8s. Is the 1" difference in deck heights between the two accounted for in the Revell (and earlier MPC '69 442) kits' engine blocks? The '84 Olds Cutlass? Not sure if anyone has measured any of them, but the '71/2 Revell Cutlass Supreme kit's engine is excellent IMHO, so it should be used as a starting point if you want a grocery getter type engine look. https://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/1964-1990_Oldsmobile_V8_engine_information I'm shocked the Coupe is happening 13 years after the convertible debuted, considering all that has happened with Revell since 2009. I doubt a Vista Cruiser is in the plans, though, as so much would need to be changed. Really, Revell can milk the forthcoming Coupe for at least a few "new" kits, and if they backdate a few things to '70 specs, even more options exist.

Me, too. Who wants to step up and do all that work? ? Not really a ton of work, honestly, and I think in this case, a 3D printed inner bed would be ideal, as you wouldn't need to simplify things to make is easily castable. Heck, a one-piece bed would be even better, more stable, and faster to produce. I guess a lengthened chassis, would be required, too, and then the extended cab is a separate issue entirely, and...I think I'll worry about actually finishing this one first. ? Yeah, when I left PB, I had to decide which images to save and which to leave behind as I had way too many to manually download each one...the S-10 images did not make the cut. I'll see if I can re-take some of the images which were lost.

There are so many VW vans from Revell, I can't keep track of which are new and which are reissues. ?♂️ ? Good times for VW van fans, though. ☮️
