Great looking early slingshot.l really like the early dragsters. I’m really mad at myself for not stocking up on this revell master piece as I talked to the revell representative at the NNL east about a reissue, and he informed me that it didn’t sell up to expectations the first time out . So I got a hard no . In my opinion some of these kits would sell better if they were distributed through hobby lobby stores that way they would be seen by more of an audience. As most local hobby shops are gone now. Unfortunately that is sometimes the only place people have left to fulfill their hobby needs

“BUILDING THE COVERS “ Vol # 92 GRUMPY’S TOY III 1967 SUPER STOCK CAMARO
M W Elky replied to M W Elky's topic in Drag Racing
Hi John , It was just that simple I went to hobby lobby and got the AMT 67 Camaro and the old pro nova and a can of testors white enamel on the 40% off week . I did also use the shackles from the old pro kit I just had to cut them down to get the desired ride height. The hardest part is making a set of headers. -
This is a very easy replica to make as most of it comes from one kit the AMT 1967 Camaro crager s/s wheels: old pro nova slicks : AMT hollow m&h’s parts box big block Chevy engine: old pro nova long block , 1970 amt camaro intake & carb , valve covers, and air cleaner are parts box items. Paint : Testors white enamel decals : slixx side windows : cut from 0.10 clear styrene sheet headers : made from solder and aluminum tubing until next time thanks for looking, Mike ing

"32 Ford Roadster - Tribute to Gray Baskerville's hot rod
M W Elky replied to Phildaupho's topic in Model Cars
It’s spot on . A nice simple duce -
Jeff it looks like you got it just right to me .This is also on my Dyno don build list for quite some time now thanks for building it first now I know what parts to accumulate . The 69 cars were the dawn of pro stock
-
That looks great it’s a really close to the photo great find on the flame decals, and you can get the kits 40% off at the Hobby Lobby.
-
I would have never of thought to put all of those parts together. It looks great

The white is Tamyia TS-26 and the blue is Tamyia TS-19 I always use Tamyia masking tape for sharp lines

Sean I’m so glad to have kept you inspired to build. I’m lucky to have a dedicated model room even though it’s only 6’x10’ . There were some years some time ago when I lived in a smaller space and worked out of a few model box tops on the coffee table in front of the tv . Your builds are really looking good so far living in eastern Pa I’m a Grump fan for sure , and consider myself lucky enough to have had some conversations with him. His sponsor’s really got there money’s worth because I still use Penzoil and Fram filters. Your builds are looking great so far especially the nova . In my opinion the amt old pro has better body detentions than the revell kit . I’ve been been working on the nova myself trying to get the body painted while the weather is good for a distant winter build . I really like your work on the vinyl top trim it’s got me re-inspired to get my body done. Thanks for posting I’m looking forward to seeing these progress, mike

I’m using parts from the same kits, and I also have those Jim heller decals . A word to the wise here his decals have no white undercoat so you may want to get a sheet of the slixx Hubert platt decals for the ford deck lid insignia.

That’s a great reference. I really like your twist on the landy paint scheme. It looks like these kits build up nice I’ll have to get some before there sold out
-
This is box stock mpc ramchargers challenger funny car except the front wheels are swapped out for halibrands . The decals are from chuck boener . The paint is testors lacquer.

Doc I used the 2010 Tom McEwen Navy duster as this issue has a revised chassis and interior tin . The body also sits a little lower on the chassis. I also sometimes cut down the roll cage parts that are over the drivers head to get it sit even lower. I find the body to be accurate enough. I really don’t know if the comp resin body is that much different. I personally wouldn’t spend the extra cash on it. The color is definitely more purple looking in person for some reason the photos give it a bluish hue. I most definitely used testors one coat lacquer . I almost always use readily available hobby or hardware store rattle can paints for convenience , and so others can easily replicate it . If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask . Mike

It’s been awhile since I built that one actually it was the first one I built from that kit right when it got reissued . So if memory serves me correctly they were from one of two places earlier competition resin available through slixx or go to eBay and look up the seller foward_resin. I really like this Vega kit a lot they check all the box’s they are fun easy to build look great on the shelf, and there relatively inexpensive. Also there’s been plenty of aftermarket decals made for them .l currently have 12 completed ,and have decals for 2 more after that. I guess It’s time to order more kits. Thanks Mike

Hayden Proffitt 1964 Plymouth Max wedge car
M W Elky replied to gtx6970's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
This is a really nice looking interior especially the weave pattern on the seats . Also great color match on the blue . Nice flawless black paint job -
You will probably have to get them custom made try sts as Bruce from smp decals passed away
-
I guess Bruce got tired of the constant threat of fires and the rising cost of a fuel car , and switched to pro stock. For the Camaro : AMT’s 40% off orange hobby lobby special big block parts : old pro nova slicks : old pro nova wheels : double dragster decals : Jim heller from his eBay store roll bar made from 0.80 rod the hood scoop: MPC’s Grumpy’s toy traction bars : AMT’s 1966 Nova For the 72 Vega : MPC’S Grumpy’s toy kit parts box small block front & back wheels: both are resin cast that were on a eBay store decals : chuck boener For the 74 Vega : MPC’S Bruce Larson kit parts Box small block two sets of kit decals for some stupid reason round 2 didn’t print the red & blue rocker panel decals.

I think this was a clever thing to do the 1964 wedge car after the Hemi’s came out making the wedge cars obsolete. From what I’ve read about this car is that Mopar dumped a ton of money into the R&D behind it. I’ve been working on this for quite some time now. It’s a kit bash of sorts combining the old johan 64 dodge with the polar lights 65 dodge . The Hemi is a mix of parts the block and tork flight are left overs from the revell hemi dart the heads and valve covers are parts box items . The turbo chargers are resin parts I can not remember were the inner cooler parts came from. The project stalled when it came to making the piping for feeding in and out of the turbos. I have since accumulated some intake parts, and I plan to use some #8 solid copper wire for the piping in and out of the turbo. I’ve never been much of a turbo fan any advice is appreciated tell me what you think.

That’s a great mix of gasser parts I’ve thought about building a gasser ranchero for years. I’m hoping that one of the model companies will make a late 60’s ranchero.
-
That’s a sweet little dragster I love the tach , and the flathead is Dyno mite .
-
For this I used the Revell Jungle Jim kit with testors lacquer and slixx decals . A word to the wise this decal sheet was fall apart in the water fragile. I did use the injector and injector scoop from the amt Wynn’s charger which required trimming the interior tin and windshield to fit . There’s something about the color combination with the Vega body that does it for me . I can remember seeing a photo of this car when I was five, and I guess I could really relate because our family ride was a 72 Vega burnt orange with a black vinyl top hatch back . Until next time thanks for looking, Mike

I used the AMT kit with SMP decals. For the paint it’s testors red form the rattle can . I did the Vinyl top with krylon semi gloss black spraying from twice the normal distance to get a slight orange peel texture I think it came out good. The stinger hood is a resin eBay find , and the RS grill is a resin part that I made . I still have to add the drive shaft and tie rod once the paint dries. The crager S/S mags are from the old pro nova . The slicks are your basic hollow AMT M&H’s . The big block engine was languishing in my parts box I made the headers from solder and aluminum tubing. Until next time thanks for looking. Mike
