  1. Conrad, great job on the build for this very interesting car. I cannot believe anyone is able to work in such small scale - my mitts barely hold 1:24 parts, and I can't even see them without a magnifier! I've been having good success with 1mm tip Molotow liquid chrome for lettering, in case you haven't tried it yet. As for the windshield, here's a little cheat I've done now and again: I have been known to put a little strip of striping decal or window tint at the top of the windshield to cover up glue damage - or as in this case - to cover up some unsightly grooves in the windshield meant to hold the gullwing door hinges. In any event, great job, and thank you for posting!
  2. Thank you, it came out great!
  3. Sweet build, and great photography!
  4. Fantastic paint job, and great color! What paint is it?
  5. Awesome widebody. Totally belongs in Fast & Furious 10 (or is it 11?)
  6. Great color choices, as well as tire/rim combination. I love the stance!
  7. So cool; basically a classic build of a classic build!
  8. Thank you Rich. I remember your two Corvairs, they were great! I can't wait to see your Piranha when it's done!
  9. Thank you all for your kind words and feedback. Now I'll be off to the opposite end of the spectrum by building something or other with an Allison V-12 in it!
  10. Thank you much Bill. It means a lot coming from a pro like you
  11. Thank you Rusty. This is one of those models where I definitely could have used four more hands!
  12. Fantastic job! Looking forward to the Camaro...
  13. Aloha Russell from Las Vegas!
  14. Hello All! Having just finished a Corvair, I was in a mood to stay with the same theme and decided to build the reissued AMT Piranha "Super Spy Car". Having never seen Man From Uncle, I was not interested in the spy gadgets, but I did find the history of the actual Piranha cars fascinating. I decided to build mine as close to the box art as possible - including the body color. I think I came really close with Tamiya TS-58 Pearl Light Blue, and TS-13 Clear. There is much online already about the quality and difficulty level of this kit, so I won't belabor it much. I would agree that the kit is based on old molds, thus there is substantial work to prep pieces and line up mating parts. Also, the greenhouse is a bear to put together and even under best of circumstances the gullwing doors do not quite shut all the way. But in terms of novelty and the "fun factor", it is a great kit to play with. As a side note, for those looking to build a Piranha like the one in Man From Uncle, there is a beautiful color booklet that comes with the Original Art Series edition that can be very useful to refer to. It also includes a lot of pictures of the spy gadgets - particularly on the dash. Interestingly, the engine shown in the booklet is not turbocharged as the one in the kit, and the decals have nothing to do with the Spy Car at all. The engine can be more accurate with kit bashing any number of other models, which would also yield the appropriate belt system driving the fan from above. To get accurate decals, along with photo-etched door hinges and gadgets, you would have to look at part number PGX192 at Paragrafix. Enjoy!
  15. What a 3-way winning project! First, you enjoyed some wonderful nostalgia. Second, you saved an old model from the junk heap. And third, you built a beauty you can be proud of (I particularly liked the interior you did).
  16. Beautiful kitty and car. Well done!
  17. I love interacting with the modeling community on this site first and foremost because of the support and camaraderie of its members. In this time of strife, I have found it a refreshing respite and a welcome escape. I'm only the littlest bit disheartened at the tone this thread has taken. Perhaps the model is not so much "junk" as it is "challenging to build", but in any event, it isn't as though anyone's firstborn was being criticized or anything. So, I for one do not hope johnfin finds a new hobby, but rather takes the good suggestions that were given to him and applies them to his next choice of builds. BTW johnfin; I am currently building an AMT Piranha Spy Car, and I definitely would NOT recommend that one as your next build either. It looked like an easy one, but looks certainly were deceiving!
  18. Beautiful and classy car, and excellent build. Thank you for posting!
  19. It came out great, and it took me down memory lane. Two birds with one stone, as it were!
  20. Very sharp colors, wheels, and stance. Nicely done!
  21. Awesome job on all three, although the custom racer is over-the-top kool!
  22. Super sweet set-up, although I am particularly in love with the colors and build on that Corvair! Thanks for posting.
  23. Fantastic creativity, and a great way to repurpose so old models! I hope your son was duly impressed
  24. It is funky kool! I saw a similar theme in SEMA 2021 with a BMW that will hopefully inspire you for the next build
