  1. Thanks for the detailing tips, Charles! Never tried detailing an engine before, so we'll see how far I can go with it. While playing with the engine (had to revisit drawings and pics to get the proper block width), for a break I worked on the 17" lift mechanism, mocked up here: I didn't consider how to limit the travel of the pistons so that the lift stops before the pistons come apart, so I may have to re-do them with an internal stop or come up with something else...
  2. Neat, precise work, so very inspirational! Looks great up on its wheels and ready for paint
  3. Looks pretty nice for an old Snapkit! Great paintwork, neatly done! Gonna be an eye catcher on the contest table in bright red! Wonder if it's worth detailing the engine, 'cause how much of it do you really see... Debating buying one, about $55 all in here from eBay
  4. Thanks for the tip! Due to foreign exchange rate and shipping as well as postal strike up here I took a stab at making my own 5.9L Cummins 6BT. Always wanted to try making an engine, and what's better than a big six! I'm finding some dimensions and parts can be hard to figure out. Fuel pump and accessories will likely come from a spare Mack parts kitI have on hand
  5. I used the product in the picture. I melted sprue over a candle under my fume hood.
  6. Getting back to work now that winter is coming and the yard work has tapered off. Took the plunge and glued the suspension to the frame to get it up on its wheels. Found an engine in the parts box that may work but I'd like to identify the source and maybe find a shorter tranny if i could. Any ideas what engine this is? Tie rod is temporary, as my plastic one didn't work out, too flimsy. To be honest, the plastic frame and suspension parts are pretty fragile. Now I see why Charlie likes brass! Mocked up. Need to raise the cab and put some louvres on the hood (I'm thinking 0.030 quarter round strips, though lots of little pieces involved) and then if it looks okay sand to its final shape Bonus tip - found you can melt styrene into a silicone mold, though under the fume hood or die. First attempts, original part on the left.
  7. Another flawless build! Wish I had as much success with painting as you have! These kits are hard to find, and can be pricey, do you order through eBay or foreign sellers? Have you ever done one of their buses, they're pretty neat kits too?
  8. Great matchup, very well done. Nice job on the paint and weathering!
  9. I just noticed the raised area on the hood sides and the riveted front third, as you say, quite a neat detail that I would have overlooked. You certainly have a keen eye for detail! Nice work!
  10. Wow, really great job! The construction is neatly done and the weathering is perfect, not too much. Overall, very realistic!
  11. Great job, Charlie! Overall, it's really a very colourful subject, what with the contrast between the black and red, and then the (primarily)yellow accents provided by the stripes and hoses. Very impressive!
  12. Awesome construction work! That's a whole lot of plastic sheet to cut up and join with such precision, congratulations!
  13. Neat idea, great minds think alike! Still in progress here, don't let it get on the back burner like me I posted it to show one way to paint the rack - I kinda think there's too much blue if you do everything but the treadplate panels like I did, but dull silver for the whole trailer doesn't seem to look the best either!
  14. Finally figured how to attach the rear sliding door. Just mocked up here, the rear wall won't be glued in until I finish the interior, which is on a platform that just slides in from the back. The camera reveals all, doesn't it, LOL
  15. You're not expected to be there at 6 AM! (I may be late, LOL)
  16. Neat work, I especially like the stripes and the contrast of the two-tone paint job. That ain't no $29.95 Earl Scheib special!
  17. Big Model Car Flea Market in Toronto, Canada from 09:30 to 2:30 on March 4, 2018
  18. Thank you for your ongoing support, Peter! We should call this our 'Hope It Don't Snow' show! (Not a show, though, more of a swap meet)
  19. Group 25 Model Car Builders Club presents their 6th Annual Brants Hatch Slot and Model Car Flea Market on March 4, 2018. Flyer below, or more info at http://www.group25.org
  20. My compliments on the nice precision work on the chassis components! Very neatly done mold for the tires too, should yield great results! Bob
  21. Wow, nice paint scheme and clean design and build! Bob
  22. For storage, one trick I've used is to find a shoebox of the right size, then cut cardboard to extend the sides up high enough to clear the antennas and exhaust stacks. The box top fits right over the side extensions, sealing it in nicely. The shoebox is sturdier too, because of the double wall. Try it out, your nice, clean work deserves good protection! Also, get one of those Molotow 1mm chrome pens so you can paint the logos, they seem to be quite prominent on these kits and the added detail would add a lot Bob
  23. Wow, you've been busy! Very neat bodywork and paint! Bob
  24. Well, you don't see that one every day! Looks like a nice clean casting. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have planned for it. Hopefully the worst is over, getting the paint to stick. Keep at it, as it will be well worth the effort to make something this unique! Bob
