Red line tires: How to

Looking good! Tighten the screw a bit to make the stripe tighter. Clean the compass point after each tire. I prefer using flats. Looks more realistic and doesn’t tend to run! Keep practicing! You are just about there. However, looking great!!! -
I second Geno...very well done, Paul!

Red line tires: How to

Hakan is correct. Scale Auto, Vol. 8, Number 4. December 1986. Redline LeFever. Some guy with a funny last name wrote this piece. He saw it at a club meeting performed by Dan LeFever of Lancaster, PA. Got his permission, back then, to share the technique. A good bow compass is essential and the Instrument needs to be very clean. I’ve done this with white lines, gold lines....for 33 years now! oh yeah... it’s also in his book! -

If you brush away the charcoal, it will leave errant marks. Blowing it away will not mark the surface. If you goof, alcohol on a swab will remove any charcoal. However, if you Dullcote it, you will need thinner. This method is very forgiving. After I mask off the stripes, I dust the surface with flat black. Just makes it look grainy. Any art store has this... nothing fancy. It's just charcoal. I will use a folded paper towel to get the bulk of it on. the trimmed foam paint brush is to fade it. If you go racing, you never see two uniform, sharp tire marks. The model body gives me an approximate width. I did go back and "wear" the white starting line, just a bit. BTW, if you follow my stuff, that is Son of Danger with a new back end. I said I was going to tick things off my unfinished list and I am!

I use artist charcoal. The can of air gets the excess off my work surface. When I’m done, I clear it with dullcote. I’ll see what pics I have to reduce. I’m hope to do an article in my column this week!

Here is the one I did in 1:18th. It did become a product and did rather well. Never understood why they didn't do the smaller scale.
-
Back in the day, I did the 1:18th drag strip for GMP. Unfortunately, they opted not to do this in 1:24th or 1:25th. Yet, they did do a tree in the smaller scale...go figure. I've had this in my queue to build for years! I tried rushing it at one point and the Tamiya paint was too hot! When I removed the tape, half the surface came up with it! I was not a happy camper! I refinished the base and let it sit a while. Picked up some Krylon Flat White yesterday, and went after the stripes these past two days! Came up nice! Now, once dry, completely, I will detail out the strip. Here's where I am, as of right now! As many of you know, I do a column and an auction. This will be auctioned off when done. The tree is from an original '70 GTO MPC kit. I will sub the GMP tree on auction. Enjoy!

Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
George Bojaciuk replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I’ll add my 2 cents. Got my kit yesterday after it was drop kicked in Philly. It may appear that the real car measured used a non-park wiper motor. The park motor would have placed the wipers lower on the stainless trim. Easy fix is to remove them, smooth out the area and add PE wipers, mounted in the full park position. This kit can not be made into a 300, without extensive cowl and hood work. -
Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take

I enjoyed reading this. I worked speed parts. I found this little tidbit... Altas Foundry was in Atlasburg, PA, about 20 miles from Canonsburg, PA & Yenko Chevrolet. Atlas sold these wheels thru gas stations and garages in this area starting around May 1967. -

Dave has always been great to deal with. When I was at FM, I needed some Impala bench seats. I explained my need and had them sent! Fair price and quick ship. -

Don’t have much control right now... -
I’ve been getting many emails of concern regarding my column and my well being. Usually the Summer is a very slow period, so I don’t send anything out. You are either partying, posing in your Speedo or, like me ....mowing! Late in August I wanted to get started and my iMac got an update... well.... that kinda’ threw it into a tizz! It just turned 8 and I was on my last iOS (operating system). I could not get email, backups could not happen and if I tried, it could take all night to download something. It was time from a new unit! Life gets in the way and today was the first shot I had at getting a new machine... after spending time at the Apple store, I found out that I have to order it online! Will say that the guy was impressed with what I wanted. Thank you all for your concern. I’m doing well. Once my new unit arrives and I get it back in the game, I’ll send out an update. I was quite busy and have a few new things in the shop going. Mainly, an albatross of a project, left last week that ended it’s 5 year saga! The big answer some are lusting for is that, YES!, I am continuing the column and you should see something soon. I appreciate your patience! This truly is a hardware problem on my end. As computers go, my iMac owes me nothing. I’ve owned Dells in the past and I honestly would have been on my third one by now! Really!!! So...hang in there! Articles and builds are coming!

Sometimes, you just need a change of pace... my iMac is dying, I'm very limited what I can do online and what pics I can process for articles and such. I needed to do something productive and decided this piece needed to leave the shop! Enough curmudgeon complaining! A guy I worked with handed me a beat up Corgi Black Beauty. He asked me to "work my magic" on it. Honestly, I didn't want to accept it. Let's face it, it was a kids toy dating back to 1966. Well...while other things were going on, I plugged away at it. It was in my possession waaaay too long. Once I get my new iMac and get "Runnin' at Redline" back in the game, I plan on showing all the details of this toy transformation. Purpose is not to do dreaded diecast, but share some of the new stuff and techniques I used to complete this. I will say that when I finally delivered this last week, the guy was thrilled! I'm thrilled it's OFF my "to do" list! Now to get back to my '55 Build and Son of Danger! So... Let me go to yet another device and post the pic....
