Thoughts and ideas that hold forever true..........
rattle can man replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Theses have probably already been mentioned, but: Easy open containers aren't easy to open. Pull tabs only work if the perforations are there/ in the right place. One size fits none. You can't open a sealed box without a sharp object. -
best wishes and prayers coming your way Bob and Carl!

The question is what engine is the truck. If you google Mazda B series engines you might be surprised how many vehicles used this engine family. The same engine block used in the Miata was used throughout the Mazda line-up and in some Fords, Mercurys, and Kias (through 2000ish) from the mid 80's into the 90's. The 1.3L in Ford Festiva and Aspire was externally identical to the 1.6L (1.6L was just a bored out 1.3), so a swap of these two is simply a bolt in swap. But you may need to swap the computers or switch to aftermarket engine management. Find a Turbo 1.6L from a Mercury Capri or Mada 323 for some scoot. Clearance issues need to be checked for. Twin cam 1.6L heads are wider than single cam heads. Miata accessories mounted in different locations on than the front-wheel drives. Front wheel drive engines and rear wheel drive engines have the distributor at opposite ends of the block. And the B8 (1.8L) variant had a longer block to accommodate the larger bore. How do I know this? I've read up on engine swaps for Ford Festivas.

Like so many people, smokey. Just wondering if the smoke particles would affect painting efforts.

Simple Fix For Cheap Hobby Knives
rattle can man replied to oldcarfan's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I'll have to try this on my older (as in 20 year old) name brand knife. It is suffering the same issue you had with your less expensive knives. And always int he middle of a BMF job. -
30 quarts of carrots from the garden to the freezer.

to me, subject matter determines what I buy. In the end it depends on what you make out of a kit. You can build a good (or bad) model out of any kit, and you can build good models with just basic tools and spray paint.

Clear Coat On Decals To Stop Yellowing?
rattle can man replied to oldcarfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Enamel clear does yellow. As for protecting decals from yellowing, it depends on which clear coat you use. Some seal the paint and decals better than others. They may be formulated to prevent oxidation, protect from UV , etc. Actual automotive clear coats are formulated to protect color coats from environmental damage, so I beleive they would be best. -

nice to hear something positive. Unfortunately, we are more likely to complain than compliment. but the complaints/ negative reviews do keep us from getting bad products. -

Ollie's grand opening today. they had 1 late model camaro, 1 e-type (opened box) Fendt or Porsche tractors (can;t remember which)and ships. -
After 2 days of cooler and wetter weather than forecast, well on the way to forecast high temps. probably similar to what most of the country is getting. Just one day with humidity under 50% would let me get a final color coat on a kit.

Car Kits Question...
rattle can man replied to DNBush's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For help with holding parts steady, you can look at circuit board holder. I bought one for building while recovering from shoulder surgery. It has four alligator clips on flexible arms, two of them screwed to the base and two have magnets so you can adjust the to hold anything in any position. -
This irk is a blessing in disguise with forecast temps around 100 or higher, the county has decided to seal and chip the road in front of my house, probably Monday. That means bench time!

scammers. I got one in the mail. From a company with a name very similar to the old owner of my mortgage. with my late wife' name on it. call them now to claim my money.

Yesterday 80 and .5" rain. tomorrow and for the foreseeable future around 100, with heat indices of around 105 or higher. I guess it will be perfect weather for foiling and assembly of all the kits I sprayed last fall.

Unless that is pink primer, I would say the color from the plastic has bled through the primer. I would say you need a better primer, primer sealer, or try using silver paint as a sealer. Then color coat. But others here might have better advice.

Turbochargers VS Superchargers?
rattle can man replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
perhaps they somehow built in a one-way check-valve? That is not the car I was referring to. the one I remember was a light blue metallic one.
