  1. I'm also a baby boomer and grew up in a strict household. My parents raised me to be polite and respectful, I was also taught by my father and grandfather patience and how to do things and work with my hands. I was also taught self reliance and not social dependence. My wife was also raised in a similar household. And I'm proud to say we have raised our son with same principles and to be a hard working, ambitious and a self reliant individual. He was a well behaved child, did well in school and just recently graduated college with two bachelor degrees. Yes he enjoys playing video games and loves technology, but I also taught him to work with his hands. I have taught him how to build car models (of course), also how to work on 1:1 cars and a little bit of woodworking thrown in. He just got married a wonderful woman with like disciplines, so I think they will pass the same things on to their children. My father showed me how to build car models, I showed my son and hopefully he will pass the hobby on to a future grandson (with a little help from me of course )
  2. Hey Charlie if I go on Friday, I'll wear your ProTech shirt also and really confuse the heck out of everyone who doesn't know you.
  3. Nice job. Kind of reminds me of Lady Penelope's car from the old TV series the Thunderbirds
  4. I've bought a few of that kit and the ratrod sedan just for the whitewalls and the wheels.
  5. I try to build the cleanest models I can. Sometimes I get carried away with details, but that's me. I think that when building becomes work and too tedious then it isn't fun. This is a very enjoyable and fun hobby. That's what it should be regardless of your skill level.
  6. Wheels can make or break the look of a model or a 1:1 car. Nice choice on all your builds.
  7. I have only 1 Johan kit, a 1964 Cadillac. A friend of mine dug some kits out of the attic and gave it to me. Nice kit in great shape it was only missing a taillight lense. I bought a replacement from Modelhaus. You guys are right, very nice tooling. Last I looked the kit was worth around $90-100.
  8. Nice! Love the suede paint job. The straight 6 is the only choice for an old school custom.
  9. The man can drive! I would love to go for a ride, you would definitely have to hang on!
  10. I bet the all the owners of these cars are on the JC Whitney catalog mailing list.
  11. I just recently bought a 2012 Honda Accord, the only part made in Japan is the transmission. The rest of it was made here, and the car was assembled in Marysville Ohio. My 15yr old Crown Vic met an unfortunate demise, so I had to buy a car. I feel pretty good knowing that a bunch of Americans were employed building it.
  12. I went to the National Convention last time it was in Orlando. I'm definitely going again. Even if you don't enter a model, you have never seen so many great models in one place.
  13. First race car model, are you pulling our leg? Great job!
  14. I grew up watching that show, never get tired of the reruns. One of my favorite movies that is true Andy Griffith is "No Time for Sergeants". That movie makes me laugh every time.
  15. Hey Charlie, nice job. Are you going to bring it to the next club meeting to show it off?
  16. You should try and see if there are any local car model clubs or IPMS chapters in your area you can join. You'll be able to meet a great bunch of people, and learn a lot. And they'll be more than willing to teach you all kinds of building tips for free.
  17. Beautiful builds, gives me incentive to go in my stash and build one.
  18. Just bought a set at my Hobbytown for $16, little expensive but nice quality. The whitewalls are printed and centered nicely. I'll use them on a stock build or mild custom.
  19. Congratulations, it's hard to quit. I quit cold turkey myself 23 yrs ago when my son was born. I have no desire to ever start again. My wife told me one time kissing me was like kissing an ashtray. That's pretty gross.
  20. I found that website a while back, you can spend hours going through all those links.
  21. Go to Grainger's website, they have all kinds of motors. I don't recall the model number, but they had a pretty powerful shade pole squirrel cage motor for around $89.
  22. I was fortunate to see Journey back when they started in the late 70's. Steve Perry's voice was so clean and powerful, I was blown away.I understand he studied at Juilliard school of music. And Neal Schon on guitar was phenomenal, he started as a young protege playing with Carlos Santana. I grew up on classic rock, but Journey is still one of my all time favorite bands.
  23. I enjoyed the article, it's harder to make a model ugly. I have a hard enough time building them shiny.
