Thanks fellas! Little update - got my pearl coat on! I’d always imagined that body color having a little subtle flip-flop, so I mixed up some Pearl Ex and shot it on the body today: And shot a coat of clear over it so I could see it with some gloss over it: I like it! It retains that dark blue that I liked in the low spots but as the light catches it it flips to a lighter blue and even a little bit of a silver or turquoise...just need to stop my wife brushing the cat right next to the wet paint like I just found her doing so that it doesn’t get a lot of hair in it ?? I’m not an expert on old Ford speed parts, but are these optional heads meant to be Offenhausers? There’s no lettering on them like the 1:1s, but they’re pretty similar aside from that...

Thanks fellas! Didn’t forget about this one...was doing some bodywork to get this thing ready for paint - getting closer anyway! Got a BUNCH of figuring out to do on the graphics and paint job for this thing...it’s taking some thinking about to figure out how to layer all the masks and stuff to get the paint job I’m going for...more soon!

No notable progress today - but I like the combination of these wheels with the body color! All the blue bits are going to get a Pearl-Ex-infused clear coat next...but there’s a BUNCH of other blue bits that I hadn’t painted until today...excited to get those done next so I can start building up some clear coats! More soon!

Couple more little bits on this one this week...made an exhaust system: Drilled out some of the switches on the kit dash... ...(and deleted the ones that wouldn’t do anything if I was building this car for real, like the interior dome light switch), and picked a color for the wheels: I really need to start getting paint on this thing now - only nine weeks til NNL East, so I’m making an effort to work through all the little things that were STOPPING me getting some of the major components in paint already...I’m excited to get to the point of getting color on everything and actually see some finished parts! You ever have those days where you work on stuff all day and none of it’s really worth even photographing or posting an update on? Did a BUNCH of parts prepping today - sanding, Bondo-ing, priming...spent HOURS at the bench today and didn’t really do much interesting ? Mocked up some of the partially-painted bits of my Paddy Wagon NNL build to amuse myself a little, anyway: And another rack of stuff ready for it’s first or second coat of blue:

These Deuces are great examples of the differences, for me. If you can SEE all the mechanical stuff proudly displayed, the axles, the suspension, the frame, the engine, then you’re more in Hot Rod territory...and if you’re hiding all that stuff and smoothing it all out and painting it modern colors then you’re more street-roddy. It has much less to do with the age of the car than the attitude and vision the builder had when building it for ME. YMMV

A technique that I just read about that I thought was cool was moving the leaf spring mounts so that, where applicable, instead of them mounting on the underside of the frame they’d move them ‘inboard’ and mount THROUGH the frame sideways to gain a couple of inches. Just used that trick myself to solve an engineering issue that I was trying to overcome!

Got a few goodies in from Gofer Racing - I’d never seen any of their stuff in the ‘flesh’ but they had some cool stuff I was interested in! The hot rod gauges I’m not thrilled with - the detail is more fuzzy than the kit decals I wanted to replace, but the wood grain will be perfect for a project I had in mind!

I wonder if, for a texture more like the one in this pic, a good technique would be to stipple some relatively thickly applied paint with a brush - maybe use the bristles of the brush to help give some of those lines and strands that you see there

Thanks fellas! ? Shot a light mistcoat of clear on this today...I’m not really GOING for the final shine yet but it definitely added some depth to the color! I wanted to protect the paint before I do the next stages - Tamiya paint is pretty hardy anyway usually, but I didn’t want to chip a little off or something further down the line when I’m masking and messing with it so this is a good preventative step against that. More on the body once the paint dries in a couple of days and I can give it a quick polish to level it out! Meanwhile, just thinking about how to improve this front end...it’s going to be so low that I don’t really NEED to do much, but I’m going to give it a bunch of attention anyway: First thing I wanted to do was scratchbuild a steering setup, and then next I’m going to replace that sway bar at the front and figure out a steering box: More soon, soon as I’ve done more!

One of the best things about Rudy’s is some of the stuff he says; ”We don’t have a limit on how much you buy!” and “we have plenty of bags so you don’t need to worry about purchasing a lot!” and my favorite “if your wife calls we won’t tell her how much you spent!” I need to go visit again, I haven’t been there in a while

Spotted this today - not super noteworthy except for the interesting graffiti that seems to happen to a lot of these commercial vehicles eventually in New York...normally they’re a real mess but this one was nicely done at least. I keep thinking that something like this would be an interesting scale project! I was on my way back from helping a friend clean out the basement of her bar - found some interesting stuff left by a previous tennant! Excuse the off topic stuff - but I love finding cool stuff like this!

Stopped by a Blicks this morning on my way to somewhere else for some K&S metal rod and sheet and they had all the packs of tube for 99 cents, and 50% off their rolls of thin metal sheet. Their display was pretty much picked clean (at least of anything I’d find useful) but I grabbed what they had, and some wire for scratchbuilding bits and pieces:

7-Eleven sold kits?!? Wish they still did - wonder if there’s some in the dusty old corners of some 7-Eleven stockrooms somewhere ?

Thank you buddy! I’m excited to start to get to paint some bits now! I love that! Yes! It’s really cool when something looks BETTER, but you’re not sure why! Some of the mods aren’t too subtle on this thing, granted, but there’s a bunch of little things that I’m pleased with too. Whilst I’m replying anyway...shot a little paint today! Needs more coats still, but I love how this color looked glinting in the sun on my apartment’s built-in paint drying device ? I can’t wait to see it with some clear over it! I’m thinking of using some Pearl-Ex to give it a little extra something too - but those sparkles are really eye catching even just after a few mist coats! IMG_6155.MP4

I think you’re right buddy! It’s definitely going to be a good candidate for some ridiculous graphics. I actually did some more work on the body today so I could maybe start work on some airbrushing but it needs some primer so I can see how far out I am. Little progress today, got the engine in! Made a couple of simple mounts and got the kit 409 in there - should be just about dangerous enough to drive I’d think ???
