  1. Thanks fellas! Mini project completed this evening - got the wheels and tires mostly completed. Shot the wheels with Krylon Wild Honey followed by 3 coats of clear then a black wash. Then, picked out the lugnuts with Molotow chrome and made some valve stems with wire, a photoetched washer for a base and a little dab of epoxy mixed with black acrylic paint for a cap. The tires had the sheen knocked off the treads, some little flat-spots added at the bottoms and I tried to line up the center of the Firestone lettering with the valve stem to make them all look uniform: Not a super interesting development, but these seemed to take a lot of time...probably because I spent a whole evening trying to make a (almost) perfect set of chrome trim rings from some wire and after 4 hours of getting an (almost) perfect set decided that I liked the wheels better without them ??? I DO think mine (right wheels) look better than the kit ones (left wheels) though ? More tiny accomplishments soon! ?
  2. Finished the last bit of airbrushing on my Impala build for NNL East...this body was ALL little bits of airbrushing where it was ‘paint a layer, wait a day, paint the next bit, wait a day’...pleased to get this last little bit (the blue glow around the graveyard scene) done:
  3. Some pics, after I finished the last little bit of airbrushing before I can clear this thing: Pretty pleased with how it turned out so far!
  4. My wife just got sent home from work for 2 weeks...it’s gonna be a long 2 weeks ??. That said, we’re all perfectly healthy and God willing we’ll stay that way whilst this blows over, and I hope y’all do too...but it’s still gonna be a LONG two weeks. They even shut down the bars ??
  5. Just a little thin gauge wire, I think it’s 28 or 30 gauge, something like that ??
  6. Huh! Now I see it! Great kitbashing Tom! Really like your build too Mark - it’s hard to do something original with a kit that they probably made a million of ?. But, you did it! I’ve been thinking of chopping one up and making a little RPU out of one, but I’ve got a pretty full bench right now as it is...
  7. Nice bench Dave! I worked on valve stems today, and wheels...still not sure if these wheels will end up on the project they’re intended for or not, but I was pleased with the stems anyway! Just gotta glue them in now!
  8. Thanks buddy! Not sure on the wheels - traded for them with a user on here - I believe he keeps a stock of them for sale/trade: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/profile/13331-vintagedragcrazy/ Thank you sir!!
  9. A little more today - shot a deep purple candy over everything that was meant to be purple, red orange and yellow candy over the flames, candy red over the lettering and then a coat of clear mixed with pearl blue Pearl Ex over all of that to make it flip and flop between black, purple and electric blue...cant seem to get any good pictures of the effect in the light here right now, but here’s a video in the meantime: Hope that works...can’t wait to see it with the clear over the top too!! ?
  10. I don’t speak on behalf of the club, but I noticed on their website today that NNL East is now in September: https://www.nnleast.com/
  11. Thanks for all the interest fellas! I’m using a Silhouette Portrait cutter with Oramask 813 masking film. Nothing too fancy about the process - just using the software bundled with the cutter to lay out the designs I need (or importing stock images that I’ve found online in the case of the reaper graphic), cutting the masks and then transferring them to the surface with a little piece of low-tack tape and weeding them ready for paint. ??
  12. No sir - all paint! Here’s the mask; Thanks for the kind words, everybody! ❤️
  13. Great looking build! I had no idea there was another printer on the market that could print white decals...any more info on that at all?
  14. That radiator is a work of art in itself - beautiful!
  15. That guy seems to build all the cool stuff I think of 2 years before I think of it...and better than I could build it ??. That trike build is a really good benchmark for anyone building one of these though! Definitely will be hard to build one better, in my opinion
  16. Weirdly, the one I got today says it’s suitable for people aged 13 upwards...maybe it got easier to build ?
  17. For us thrifty folk (or those of us constantly struggling with the price of EVERYTHING in New York) the big chain’s vouchers are a Godsend...picked BOTH of these up from one of the chains today for under $20, pre tax: Keep an eye out for those vouchers and offers - this particular store had 60% off, with an additional 20% off the entire purchase which brought them down to a touch under $9 a piece! Them’s old fashioned prices! ?
  18. Really nice work Steve! You make it look easy...but I know there’s a lot of work on every piece you complete!
  19. I’ve learned words I never would’ve imagined from the Italian people at my local bar ?
  20. Thanks fellas! Just a little more progress on the paint...it takes a while because I like to clear between coats to make masking a little less risky - it would SUCK to get this far then have to start something over ?. Mixed up some candy green with Createx colors and shot the roof: And then today I started adding a little extra detail before I get to the rest of the candy coats...painted a little graveyard scene on the back end to fill that gap there: I used a pearl blue metallic for that part - I’m going for a purple shade for the main candy color for the lower portions of the body but I wanted some variations in the shades so this portion will have candy red over the top and the rest of the body will have a candy blue THEN a candy red to get the effect I’m hoping for. Once that was dry, painted some bats to continue the ridiculous theme I seem to have got myself into ? Those bats will be pretty subtle once the candy is on there I suspect, but it’s a cool little extra detail for people to notice hopefully... Next job is to start laying up the ‘real’ color - I can’t wait to see it looking more purple and crazy! ??
  21. Oops - DRAWERS ?. I don’t even have the New York accent, I’ve only been here a decade or so...but apparently I’m developing it ?. FUGGEDABOUDIT, gimme a BACONEGGNCHEEZ ?
  22. Michael’s emailed me a 60% off voucher, a 40% off voucher, a $5 rewards voucher AND a 20% off entire purchase voucher this morning...so that secured my plans for the day ? They let me stack the vouchers (which some cool staff members will let you, and some won’t) so I ended up with these two for just under $10 each, after deals: And whilst I was braving the Coronovirus in Manhattan I picked up a few other essentials to see me through the apocalypse...some sign vinyl, glue, brass stock, decal set and some little baggies for parts organizing Then I came home and my wife surprised me with a label maker I’d been looking at for a few weeks! Finally I can label all my draws so I don’t have to look through 10 of them to remember where I put stuff! ?? Not a bad haul today ?
  23. This is way cool! Really love the scratchbuilding you’ve done so far! I’ll be watching!
  24. Thanks Tom! I never would’ve guessed that, no! Haha! They look right at home on there!
  25. You’re right - I did look at those too...I need to start collecting a few of those from the various manufacturers so I have a nice selection to pick from!
