I’d buy it!

Thank you fellas! Forgot to post the nearly-ready-to-paint coffin...gotta figure out a 70s paint trick that I haven’t tried yet for this thing! ?
-
A little more on this thing - had to paint a bunch of parts, including these suspension linkages so that I could get this thing closer to being a roller: Modified the kit interior so it has a bed in the back to fit that coffin that I was want to put in there: And shot all the interior parts with a base color ready for more detailing later: And a quick mock-up to see how it’s going to look - it’s starting to look like a thing! More soon!

What’s your most and least favourite task?
OldNYJim replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes! This is exactly my least favorite part! I try and have a couple of projects staggered usually so I’m not waiting for paint to dry forever before I can work on something, but this is definitely my least favorite part of the process Guess I need a dehydrator ?♂️? -
First finished build of the year - this one is for NNL East’s “Known Survivor” category this year. Used an AMT 50 Ford kit, did a bunch of bodywork and modified or detailed-up about every part I think. Build thread here, for anyone curious: Thanks for looking! And some pics of it on it’s display stand for the show:

A couple of little touch ups and details to add but this one’s nearing completion... Today I BMF’d the supports in the roof to add a little visual interest in case anyone looked at this thing from a low enough angle to actually see that stuff: Then laid out a design on my vinyl cutter.... ...to add a little signwriting to this little base to display it on: Got one more little project to work on over the weekend and then I can snap some nice finished photos of this thing and call it about done! More soon!

The Model Kits of MPC
OldNYJim replied to jchrisf's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No way would I trust my thousand-hour build to a record player crossed with a slingshot ? I’d be curious to build one and get it working nice...but I’d be nervous to put anything on it ? -
I always enjoy seeing your work Steve, and I definitely enjoy seeing HOW you work! Thanks for sharing!

The Model Kits of MPC

Is that turntable one of those contraptions with a rubber band inside it that provides the movement? -
A little more progress today - got the tub attached to the frame and those to the body: Popped out one of the seats whilst doing it, but no biggie... Once the body was on I got the glass glued in for good with a little epoxy: And then got the radiator installed so I could add the lines from the engine. I added an overflow tube for a little visual interest: Next up, headlights... ...then tail lights... ...and finally for today a license plate. I built this for the NNL East Known Survivor theme and wanted it to be something that could have been built maybe early to mid sixties - an actual survivor from that era maybe? So, the license plate had to reference that: I designed the plate in Photoshop and had it printed, and added some little photoetch bolts to ‘secure’ it. Feel like I got a lot done today, but I did spend 10 hours at the bench, so... ? More soon!

Another foose 56
OldNYJim replied to Brudda's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
What a beautiful build! Outstanding! I love the color, it’s cleanly built, and the info to fix the body-fit issues is much appreciated! Nice work! -
Thanks Tom! My to-do list still seems pretty long, but spent most of the day polishing it, which was a big job that I’m glad is close to being done! IMG_7749.MOV

Major screw up with my paint and I need help
OldNYJim replied to drodg's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Or how well you hide it ? -
A little more work on the ol’ Shoebox, in case anyone’s still following along ? Got the chassis MOSTLY wrapped up...I say mostly because there’s some more to do once the engine is in and the wheels are on and so on, but it’s near enough for the next step anyway: Chromed a few little pieces - there’s not a TONNE of chrome on this, but I wanted some little bits and pieces anyway including the center bullet on that grill: Got the engine wrapped up: And time for another mock-up to make sure it all still fits a month or two down the line ?: And a worms-eye view to make sure everything clears ok: And a normal-eye view to give an idea of the stance: Looks about how I wanted it! Low, but feasibly low, I think! More soon, soon as I’ve done more (I’ve REALLY got to polish that body out, I’ve been putting that off for weeks ?)!

I love a good workbench thread! My workspace is small but works out ok. I did tidy it all up yesterday like I do every Monday, but it’s Tuesday afternoon so... From left to right , set of drawers for scratchbuilding supplies and stuff like that - styrene sheet, rod, metal sheet, roundbar, masking tape, etc etc. Next to that, the 100 year old New York Apartment built-in drying rack. Under the desk is a set of drawers with paint and glue in, and then the desk itself with the mandated 6 inches square of work area. Under the desk, airbrush compressor. And then: further right... ...a rack for my vinyl cutter, a couple of magazine racks full of whatever nonsense doesn’t fit anywhere else too well, some storage boxes with photoetch, resin parts, plastic parts and showrod parts (best to keep those out of general circulation I find) and under that is the most commonly used rattle cans. I was just digging through those this morning or it would be a little neater, honest. Oh, and behind those USPS boxes is my little photo booth and a scanner that I use for model stuff. Small, but it works ok here in the land of expensive rent! I dream of the day we’ve got some more space here though...

Dumb newb question: How to install seats
OldNYJim replied to jchrisf's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It doesn’t - but as far as I can work out it doesn’t mix until it’s right at the end of the tip maybe? Doesn’t seem to have clogged up yet! If it does I’ll just ditch the tip and mix it myself -

Absolutely outstanding work - really inspirational! One question - what kind of car dealership sends out mailers with LED lights in them? Sounds useful! ??
