  1. Stunning! What material did you use for the red cap?
  2. Thanks fellas! A tiny bit of progress - gave the body and chassis a handful of coats of clear so I can polish out all the lumps and bumps from the airbrushing: And did some work on the engine - I wanted a coffin shaped blower scoop (like this thing wasn’t dumb enough already) so I designed one and had the cutter cut it: Should be a pretty wild looking engine once I start getting some paint and detail on there: That scoop looks RIDICULOUS here, but it looks just right (or just wrong enough) with the engine in the car. More soon!
  3. Got a BUNCH of clear coating done today - ran out of space on my 1920s paint drying racks (the radiators in our apartment) so I had to fill up the photo booth too! ?
  4. The dirty family in the apartment next to us (you know, the one with the mice and roaches and rotten garbage smell that the landlord can’t evict because they threatened him with a racism suit) had an ambulance arrive today and take one of the parents away, coughing and spitting. I sure wish if they thought one of them might be sick they hadn’t let their kids use our tiny lobby as a playground all week, touching everyone’s doors and buzzers and coughing on everything. Hope we don’t catch it...but also the past week of staying in has actually been less stressful than I figured it would be, terrible neighbors aside. Got a lot of modeling done and my work bench has never been better organized!
  5. Love seeing your work - you’re a great scratch builder!
  6. Beautiful weathering! Really impressive ??
  7. Awesome! I really enjoyed this, like I enjoy all your builds, and I’m excited to see the next one!
  8. Interesting! I bought one of the spray bottles so I could try it out without spending the extra $3 on a whole gallon (Mr Tightwad over here ?)...and I’ve been really pleased with how it performs. If the gallon bottles really are stronger then I’ll definitely get on well with those!
  9. Huh, that was one of the kits they offered? Cool! I pulled one of these out of my storage around Christmas because I’d forgotten what was in the box. Not a tonne of detail or parts, but I love the little chopper!
  10. Thanks buddy! A little work on the frame today - cut some masks after laying down a base coat of silver: And I figured with this thing sitting so high it would be cool to have a kinda space/galaxy kind of look under there. Laid down some space-looking blacks, blues, pinks and purples with a splattering of white and blue stars: Then added some depth and shadow: Then removed the remaining masks and shot some blue and purple candies over all that: I’m going to add some more of the splattered stars to the frame rails once it’s all dry and I can mask it - but I’m pretty pleased with how ridiculous it looks...gonna be a LOT of colors and stuff to look at on this one! More soon!
  11. Another mini project, whilst we’re waiting for the end of the world to end here...finished up the dash! Drilled out the switches and knobs (deleting the ones that wouldn’t be any use anyway for this build), and replaced them with ones home made with some wire and epoxy mixed with pearl paint. Used Gopher Racing gauges with more epoxy over them to simulate glass, surrounded with chrome-looking rings made of wire. Ditto the radio frequency gauge, which has a couple of polished aluminum knobs for the volume and frequency changers, and the glovebox release is made from a little piece of silver wire and a photoetched ring. Looks pretty cool in there, I think! More soon!
  12. That’s why he was the only guy trusted to see the actual car before doing his job, I assume ?
  13. Thanks fellas! Mini project completed this evening - got the wheels and tires mostly completed. Shot the wheels with Krylon Wild Honey followed by 3 coats of clear then a black wash. Then, picked out the lugnuts with Molotow chrome and made some valve stems with wire, a photoetched washer for a base and a little dab of epoxy mixed with black acrylic paint for a cap. The tires had the sheen knocked off the treads, some little flat-spots added at the bottoms and I tried to line up the center of the Firestone lettering with the valve stem to make them all look uniform: Not a super interesting development, but these seemed to take a lot of time...probably because I spent a whole evening trying to make a (almost) perfect set of chrome trim rings from some wire and after 4 hours of getting an (almost) perfect set decided that I liked the wheels better without them ??? I DO think mine (right wheels) look better than the kit ones (left wheels) though ? More tiny accomplishments soon! ?
  14. Finished the last bit of airbrushing on my Impala build for NNL East...this body was ALL little bits of airbrushing where it was ‘paint a layer, wait a day, paint the next bit, wait a day’...pleased to get this last little bit (the blue glow around the graveyard scene) done:
  15. Some pics, after I finished the last little bit of airbrushing before I can clear this thing: Pretty pleased with how it turned out so far!
  16. My wife just got sent home from work for 2 weeks...it’s gonna be a long 2 weeks ??. That said, we’re all perfectly healthy and God willing we’ll stay that way whilst this blows over, and I hope y’all do too...but it’s still gonna be a LONG two weeks. They even shut down the bars ??
  17. Just a little thin gauge wire, I think it’s 28 or 30 gauge, something like that ??
  18. Huh! Now I see it! Great kitbashing Tom! Really like your build too Mark - it’s hard to do something original with a kit that they probably made a million of ?. But, you did it! I’ve been thinking of chopping one up and making a little RPU out of one, but I’ve got a pretty full bench right now as it is...
  19. Nice bench Dave! I worked on valve stems today, and wheels...still not sure if these wheels will end up on the project they’re intended for or not, but I was pleased with the stems anyway! Just gotta glue them in now!
  20. Thanks buddy! Not sure on the wheels - traded for them with a user on here - I believe he keeps a stock of them for sale/trade: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/profile/13331-vintagedragcrazy/ Thank you sir!!
  21. A little more today - shot a deep purple candy over everything that was meant to be purple, red orange and yellow candy over the flames, candy red over the lettering and then a coat of clear mixed with pearl blue Pearl Ex over all of that to make it flip and flop between black, purple and electric blue...cant seem to get any good pictures of the effect in the light here right now, but here’s a video in the meantime: Hope that works...can’t wait to see it with the clear over the top too!! ?
  22. I don’t speak on behalf of the club, but I noticed on their website today that NNL East is now in September: https://www.nnleast.com/
  23. Thanks for all the interest fellas! I’m using a Silhouette Portrait cutter with Oramask 813 masking film. Nothing too fancy about the process - just using the software bundled with the cutter to lay out the designs I need (or importing stock images that I’ve found online in the case of the reaper graphic), cutting the masks and then transferring them to the surface with a little piece of low-tack tape and weeding them ready for paint. ??
  24. No sir - all paint! Here’s the mask; Thanks for the kind words, everybody! ❤️
  25. Great looking build! I had no idea there was another printer on the market that could print white decals...any more info on that at all?
