Thanks fellas! I think the stance will change a LITTLE (so you’d actually be able to steer the thing…) but close as I can get it anyway… A little more progress…got the front and rear valances on the body. Took some fine tuning to get them to fit nicely, but there was no way I was gonna mess with gluing them on once painted like the directions show… Removed the emblems and door handles (which I’ll replace later, after paint) and started scribing the panel lines to add some depth to them. Ended up shooting some primer on the body so I could see what I was doing with the clean-up…much easier to spot where you’re coming up short with a coat of gray on there: Removed the molded in mesh detail from the core support, and opened up the grill too - will use a fine wire mesh in both of these after paint: And what I was MEANT to be doing today was getting the ride height set and adjusting whatever I needed to there to make it all work…but I got distracted by making some aluminum rims for the wheels: Ended up reprinting the wheels - but just the center sections as you can see above - they should look pretty sharp when they’re assembled, hopefully: I’m thinking a satin gunmetal for the centers to contrast against the polished rims. Oh, and whilst the printer was running, took a shot at some 3D licensed plates - I’ve been trying to master a technique for making these. The challenges are getting them scale thickness whilst still being printable and also having the copy and border sit proud enough that there’s a way to actually paint the things. This one isn’t perfect, but I’m getting closer… Thanks for looking - more soon!

Great looking build - I love that Star Spangled Blue color! -
I never really was crazy about Mustangs. They’re cool I guess, but I never wanted to build one. Then, I bought a 1:1, and suddenly I’m buying Mustang kits every time I see them. ?? Anyhoo, I figured I’d like to build a little collection of matching color Mustangs and see if I can start clearing down the stack of a dozen or so that I’ve got in the queue right now. First up, the Revell ‘66 Shelby: My idea was to do some subtle modifications to each, but nothing too period-incorrect or too crazy…just make it my own like I might if I had the resources to do it for real. First up, and almost breaking my own rule already, I really liked these retro-inspired Boyd wheels so I printed a set of them - I’m keeping the kit front tires, but used some Model Car Garage (I think?) resin rears: Those wider rear tires will require a little more space in the rear, so I sliced out the existing wheel arches… …and reassembled: Whilst the printer was printing the wheels, I ran off some seats that I’d been wanting to use on a build too - retro-looking enough to fit the car but a little different too: Next job was fixing the interior tub now that I made it not fit anymore - removed the little rear bench seat (because who drives a Shelby Mustang with three passengers in it?) and smoothed it all out and got enough clearance for everything to fit back together: Next jobs will be figuring out the suspension and getting the stance right - but I like the look already with my quick paper clip mock-up ? Local model show in October has a Mustang theme this year, so I need to not let this one drift off into the part-built-project-pile…more soon, soon as I’ve done more! Thanks for looking!

Got a $10 voucher for Michael’s that expired this weekend, so went hunting for a ‘51 Chevy kit. They didn’t have one, but a couple of Mustang kits caught my eye. This one won out…planning a series of Mustang builds for my collection…

I’ve come to realize that having a really nice build at the end of a project is much more down to my skills as a builder than the quality of the box of parts I started with. There’s probably VERY few kits that a suitably skilled builder couldn’t make a show-winning jaw-dropping build out of, as long as said builder is patient and determined enough…it’s just about accepting that YOU’RE the one responsible for the end result. Other people’s mileage (and opinion of AMT kits, or whatever else we’re proclaiming to be ‘junk’ this week) may vary…

I did a search of the forum but didn’t come up with much…does anyone know about the truck included in this release?: I assume it isn’t meant to represent anything that actually existed, and probably doesn’t include an engine or anything much in terms of suspension and drivetrain?

Looks like that's accurate - found pics of a '98 car and that has the cassette player too: https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1998-rover-mini-cooper

Been messing with a Model A for a couple of weeks - not REALLY building it as such…just playing with parts! -

What happened with the clear first time around? Lacquer clear very often won’t play nice with enamels, just in case you weren’t aware… -
Hey Bob - sorry, missed your first enquiry! Got caught up in some builds for contests and shows that I wanted to attend this summer (got a couple more in September and October) and then this one will be back in rotation! I had an idea I wanted to try for the frame too - need some brass and solder! More soon!

Great start - I like those wheels!

Well it’s finally announced.?

My brother in law just bought a Tesla, and I gotta say, it's an impressive car. Super quick, does a bunch of cool stuff (and some dumb stuff too - he was pranking me with the car's built-in whoopie cushion feature), looks cool, comfortable, fun to drive. Can walk my Mustang EASILY, and throws you back in the seat as well as anything I've ever driven. I was impressed, and want one. That said, I don't think the network is there yet (imagine trying to charge them if you live in an apartment in NYC, and what happens to the numb-nuts who run out of juice in the middle of nowhere, because people do things like that), and I'd love to have seen a bigger move to renewable fuel sources instead of a move to EVs. But it's happening, regardless of how us car-guys think - the same way vinyl records got largely replaced by Spotify. No one took vinyl away, and you can still get it...but times change, and the average person doesn't care as much as the aficionados do. -
In their defense, the original version of the car didn't have a steering wheel either - just some levers to steer it like a skid steer In this video (around the 20 second mark) you can see this guy trying hard not to crash it - it looked kinda 'twitchy' to drive...

I've tried getting into this show a few times, and I WANT to like it, but it never quite clicked with me. I think you probably nailed why I lose interest so quickly...I don't care about the people or their drama ? A show that just covers the racing without any of the 'added-for-entertainment' stuff would probably pique my interest more...but that's just NHRA coverage, and it exists already I guess ? -
Bummer - looks like the Cults one might be your best bet, currently...
-
There's at least one on Cults: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/volkswagen-baja-bug-printable-body-car EDIT: And apparently Replicas and Miniatures sold/sells a traditionally resin cast one too, unless you REALLY want it to be 3d printed for some reason...:

I've been watching for them to post the results, so I'll follow up as and when I see them...I wanna see what won!
