  1. probably not much help to your question, but you know what you're looking for so it might jump out at you if you see it: Model Car Science i would start at least a month after the deadline of the contest entries. but if it's inspiration you want: Popular Mechanics - Google Books Cover - April 1938
  2. those rascals @ scalemates pulled a good one on me. it's listed under Fleetmaster (if that's the one you meant) '47 Chevy Fleetmaster , Moebius Models 2302 (2025) the instruction sheet (from another version) has a good picture of the steering column & shift shaft (?) to help with proportion. thanks sid
  3. holy-smoley guys. you don't know how many responses the Ford Barn & HAMB have sent me today and most of them have left me scratching my head. both diagram & pictures [above] have all but eliminated and doubts in my mind how the seemingly contradictory motions of lever & crank thingie interact to make it work. much appreciate the helps, sid
  4. speaking of transmissions .... the floor shift was omnipresent until when; around 1941 or so? but what happens if a rodder has a three speed transmission, and not the means or desire to put the lever on the floor? for him, the journey may be the destination with no hurried anticipation of getting there. or maybe his gal likes doing the "slide-over" and sitting next to him on those long drives. kinda hard to feel romantic with a steel shaft between your knees. i've yet to find the interconnection between the transmission linkage and the two perpendicular stalks which emerge from the steering column mounted shaft connected to the shift lever. any link to a diagram or help piecing this puzzle together will be greatly appreciated. thanks, sid
  5. i've recently been made aware that acrylic paint takes 28 to 30 days to fully cure. believe it was in the Primer video i posted a couple of days ago. (31) Vince Venturella - YouTube
  6. a gateway procedure to the above final method would be to paint the firewall solid color, and the glue wire of whatever color you want using the molded wire as a path. most of it would disappear into the shadow if your new wire was applied to the topside & viewing surface. a betcha a cookie after 2 or 3 like that, you'll be ready to sand down to flat and run the wires to suit. you can see the results are well worth the effort.
  7. a mere pittance to the man who wants a piece of automotive history
  8. will the running boards stay gone? i like it like that.
  9. when the cost of a "normal" kit is inching to $40, plus aftermarket or donor kit cost, plus paint & sundries, it's kind of in-line for where we are in the hobby. am i the only one who looks at a model and sees $150 - $200 as the norm? wonder how long before a 3D guy pops out an engine for this behemoth ?
  10. Q: are the holes in the chassis/ floor pan for screws like the old AMT kits?
  11. addendum: initially i thought a "hobby compressor" would keep the wind in my airbrushing sales. worst investment and set back my attempts to learn airbrush painting for almost a year. public service announcement: buy a contractors style compressor with a two gallon air reservoir , air dryer filter thing, and long hose. you'll be glad in the long run.
  12. i'm not touching the 900 kits stash or the unobtainium Pocher Rolls Royce landau with the box signed x the Queen Mother, but stuff you 'had to have' because it was going to revolutionize your model building experience. i'll go first : jump rings watch parts a dozen different sizes of magnets two dozen of beads/ weathering pencils weathering powders you?
  13. every model is only practice for the next one
  14. call your cc company and request a group call to the company. maybe he'll answer and it will reveal either hidden details or jog his memory. that worked once for me with a lumberyard that was intent giving me crappy lumber for too much money. i am never ceased to be amazed at companies which ship without tracking numbers. that should be built into their S & H charge. shame on them.
  15. Q: have you called the 800 number on your card to see if you were charged? did MCG send you an order confirmation email? when you reviewed your previous orders, did you see the current/ missing in action order? in a take a deep breath moment, the past 20 years have groomed us as consumers to expect everything to work like a fine tuned watch. when it doesn't, we start to hyperventilate. the big A has spoiled us, allowed the development of unrealistic expectations, and perhaps set the bar unrealistically high for cottage industry, niche, businesses. and as a footnote: smartphones are the worst &*^%$* things ever invented.
  16. i have an Iwata Eclipse and like it because i have it. i learned with it and cannot find anything wrong that doe not trace back to my inexperience and that cannot be rectified with a couple of minutes of behavior modification. like a knife or bottle of wine, the best one is the one you have when you need it. it's a poor workman that blames his tools.
  17. i'll let you do the second one. scroll down on the left you'll see download instructions. do it/ open it/ bob's your uncle Chevy Camaro Pro Stock, Monogram 85-4483 (2018)
  18. Q: which kit is this? looks like it could be good fodder for a dirt tracker. thanks
  19. right. wheel flanges is what i meant . . . . now is that HO gauge, or HO scale? hmmm
